Who are some free agents you think Detroit should target when July 1st hits? Keep in mind that Detroit will have well over $20 million to spend.
Iggy. He sounded unsure about returning to the Nuggets when Karl was fired. Hes played under Cheeks before and he would be a perfect fit.
I never knew they had so much money coming off the books. Probably Igoudala. Also depending on who they choose in the draft use some of the rest to fill out their bench and help with big men.
Having Joe run the show is frightening though. Especially since Monroe's extension is coming up. Too bad they chose such a bad coach.
Yeah thats true, although I think he's gonna wait to see how Monroe does next year before he decides on an extension. I love Monroe, but the fact is he still isnt a good defender and didnt show much improvement between his 2nd and 3rd seasons.
I would think that would be one of those trades that Vince Ellis talked about where we take on salary from teams approaching luxury tax(since I doubt Iggy would turn down $15 million). I could see that happening.
Bring in Dorell Wright we need shooters around our bigs, also would like to see that trade the Bleacher Report posted about trading our pick with Singler and Jerebko for Evan Turner. We could use a point forward type that could work well with Knight. Obviously if Iggy is an option you have to chase him but i would be cautious to overpay especially after the Gordon/ Charlie V debacle.
It wouldnt hurt to miss the playoffs one more year with next years draft class looming, but it looks like the Pistons are only a scoring SF away from being serious playoff contenders.
I wish they could somehow grab Wilson Chandler. he would be a perfect fit, plus he is from Detroit and on the verge of being an all-star. Come on Joe D make this happen, you owe your fans!!
which lineup is better
pg Knight ---- pg knight
sg Turner ----- sg McCollum/ Oladipo/ Carter-Williams
sf Wright ------ sf Iggy
pf Monroe ------ pf Monroe
c Drummond ------ c Drummond
7th Charlie V
obviously one is win now and the other is win next year ( both these leave room under the cap)
Pistons also have 1.5 mil trade exception and their amnesty available which I would like to see
used aggressively to obtain Thomas Robinson
Anyways finally the future is bright
It is better just to keep the cap space unless they can get someone young with potential than to waste it on someone like villinueva or gordon (who is a fair deal at 6 to 8 million but at 12 million is overpaid).
Looking at the list of free agents, I see a lot of potential to overpay and not a lot of help. Given that their two cornerstone pieces (Drummond / Monroe) are post players and the fact that most of the options they will be able to add at their spot in the draft are also much better at scoring in the paint, they really need to look at shooters, to get the floor spaced a bit.
The biggest thing I'd like to see the Pistons do is look to upgrade some of their rotation players, as the stars just aren't there this year. If Maxiell and Stuckey have played their last games in Detroit, that would probably be a good thing. One can only hope that Charlie V is elsewhere next year, too. These guys represent a pretty mediocre period in the team's history and it would be nice to see the slate cleaned a bit.
Also, next year is the bonanza class. Keep some of that money and work towards a much better signing next year, when the free agent poor is deeper and the draft far better.
I'd like to see them get iggy and draft mcw and then pick up the stretch 4 man from gonzaga in the second round. if they go shabazz which i hope they wouldnt do then id try to trade for bledsoe. him and knight in the backcourt would be unstoppable.
they could also amnesty Charlie V to clear another good amont of money, that will give them room of like two max contracts.
With the emergence of Paul George in Indy, I'd like to see Detroit take a long look at Danny Granger. As long as he's completely healed from his injury I think he could really help them going forward. George makes Granger expendable and I think he could be had for the right price.
Unfortunately, I'm not sure Detroit has the 'right price'. Sure they can provide cap relief but would Indiana seriously consider taking back Stuckey or Villanueva?
