Are they bringing in a specialist/bigmen coach for him? not saying that it is necessary, but both Howard and Bynum had Hall-of-famers coaching them up when they started in the league. As an organization, do they even have the right relationships with former players who would want to take on this Job? Anyone hear anything dispositive on this subject?

I haven’t heard about a specialist coming in and working with him, but I would like to see that happen. He’s a specimen, and with the right work he can become special (nobody should doubt that).

Maybe bring Bill Laimbeer back now that he’s not with the Wolves anymore? Footwork is definitely something Drummond needs to work on. I really like his upside just like everyone else. It ALL bars on how hard he works/how much he wants to get better. Kid could be a beast.

Monroe himself had as a teammate Ben Wallace, surely that was important in their growth.

Listen, last year at UCONN was chaotic, they were under investigation, Drummond chose to join late, there was controversy over whether he would get a scholarship and who would give theirs up, they just won a national championship, they lost their identity, their head coach was in and out with personal matters. Their is no doubt in my mind Drummond will pan out and at worst be a solid starter. This kid is young with all the physical tools to be the next big thing. He will show people alot this up coming year. Big man coach wouldn’t hurt, lebron has done it, Kobe, and other dominat big men. He will not be a bust!!!

I was thinking about this the other day.  He really, really needs a coach for him to be even remotely successful in the league.  Coaching and veteran’s leadership / guidence is crutical.  Ben Wallace helped Greg Monroe, not sure if Ben is playing again this season but they will need him to be a coach at least.  If I was the pistons I would be trying to get a good coach for him no matter what it costs….

maybe ben wallace or dennis rodman can come over or anyone from the detriot motor city bad boys era could teach drummond a thing or 2 about being agressive and having a decent free throw shot he alread has a jump shot and was a great passer in HS and i agree that the situation in UCONN was chaotic to get anything out of drummonds true potential we cannot just rely on how he performs in just 1ytr of college exp. a defensive and offensive agresiveness is a must for drummond for him to achive his true potential working with monroe could just do that monroe is on of the best passing big men in the game today would make him a strong scoring option for the team

corey maggette? interesting, but if you think about it Maggette stays in excellent shape 100% of the time and goes balls to the wall. Makes sense from a mentality standpoint, but obviously drummond won’t model his game after Maggette. I think he’ll end up working with the usual greats who end up tutoring young players for one summer or so, Hakeen, Kareem or maybe Ewing will hang with him some time this summer or down the read. If Ben Wallace stays he can teach Drummond more than almost anyone how to play suffocating defense. The main thing is learning some post moves, and the best thing for him might be to watch a sh*t ton of game tape from the 80s and early 90s when big men ruled the league and were actually skilled high scorers, unlike now where they’re asked only to rebound and block shots. Playing with a good passing bigman in Monroe will help Drummond find easy buckets too as long as he puts the work in and busts his ass.

He might be good… I have to think that its hard for a rookie to feel like a pro if the organization drafting him says he needs a private tutor more or less, even if it could make a big difference down the line…This is probably why players like Stackhouse and J Howard got such long careers. If that is the case, they might have to wait a year until their is more hype about them(assuming there are no tragic injuries and everyone improves) because I doubt any of the skilled big man vets like Jamison want to go over there right now, but they will have a lot of cap room next year.
