Why do people think that they are not a playoff contender? I know TMac isnt the same BUT if they use him wisely by limiting his minutes to mostly late game situationshe is very effective. His skills arent depleted , it is just his body cant take punishment. Also they have guys coming off injury like Ben Gordon who is money!

Who in the East improved where at least the Cavs spot isnt available? Mia ,Mil, Bos all got better but they were already playoff teams ( please dont say knicks got better)

Their front court is going to struggle rebounding. Maxiell is undersized, Wallace is over the hill, Charlie V is weak and Monroe is a rookie.

Too many shooters and not enough passers, these are players that are shoot first/pass second: Hamilton,Gordon,Stuckey, Charlie V, Bynum and T-mac. Can’t run an efficient offense with that many people unwilling to make the extra pass.

Defense? Does this team have a 1 or 2 that can play any defense? Prince is a lock down defender, but he probably wont be there all year. Charlie V has a lot of mpg’s for someone who can’t guard.

Their defense is weak, their offense is erratic and shooter oriented and they struggle on the boards. Need any more reasons why they won’t make the playoffs?

they can compete for a playoff spot. Im kinda beating the crap out of a dead horse here, but the last 2 spots in the east are up for grabs. If rip, prince, mcgrady and gordon can all be healthy and charlie stays out of the dog house, and monroe puts up a solid rookie year and stuckey continues to be their best player, they can be right in the mix with all the other average teams like NY, Phi, Wsh, NJ, Ind and cha.

Reasons why Pistons suck major arse

    1) bad coach
    2) no true center on the roster
    3) no post depth
    4) over-packed backcourt filled with chuckers and “me-creators”
    5) lack of veteran leadership (prince and rip seem to be sick of their stay in Detroit and ready to relocate)
    6) inconsistency in the front office

If they run plays through Monroe on the regular they might surprise people. Monroe can be compared to Webber/Diaw, an excellent passing big that can open up things. I don’t think they will deal Hamilton because he will benefit the most from Monroe’s presence. He excels at backdoor cutting so he should have a great season. They have a chance to get an eight seed but anyway they should do better than last year if everyone is healthy. I always liked Maxiell when he came off the bench as an energy guy behind Sheed and Ben but last year, he didn’t make the leap forward everyone expected him to. Villaneuva is very talented, the only problem is it hardly ever comes out. Some games he looks like an All-Star and in other games he puts up alot of bad shots and can’t even get 10 points. To me he’s the most expendable guy on the team. Alot will depend on T-Mac and how good he will be this year, most people think he’s done and he probably won’t return to his old form but he might have something left in the tank. If Gordon is healthy he’s a huge 6th man, and will earn every dollar he makes. With the Bulls he won games by himself by taking his responsibility in the 4th quarter, if he’s hot he can score in bunches and I expect him to do that again this year.

bro… as a fan of them to… there r six locks in the east, but the pistons r so weak front court in terms of low post scoring and size, they will get murdered some games just because we couldnt rebound or get enough points in the paint when our perimeter shots arent falling. i beleive our futre is bright, but right now we not a playoff team at all, we can maybe challenge for a spot, but it will most likely not happen, thats just the reality of it

They need a leader on the bench, whether its a stronger coach or a player stepping up. Their best option would be for Stuckey to become their go to guy, and then focus the team around him. They should go after a center(Jason Thompson, Hawes, Kaman, Camby all are options) by trading one of their wings. This is a team that could make the playoffs if they get their attitudes right, once again going back to leadership. Gordon, Prince, Hamilton, Stuckey, and Charlie V are all quality players, and if Monroe plays well, and they make a trade, then their right in that 7-8 seed competition.
