The Green for Perkins trade may have seemed ridiculous when it was made and perhaps it was.  Not only did the Celtics count too much on an aging Shaq but, they lost a good post defender and their biggest strength (post defense) became just decent defense down low.

    Here’s some logic:

What if Perkins didn’t resign him?  They would have lost him for nothing.

Here’s where most of the logic comes in:

Perkins is a 26 year old defender down low.

Jeff Green is a 24 year old versatile player with much more upside.  The post-Big 3 Celtics would have Rondo and Perkins as their main pieces.  Now they have Green and Rondo which looks a lot better for the future.  Think about it, Perkins isn’t going to get any better than he is now and he’s not going to develop a great offensive game this far into his career.  Jeff Green, with much more upside, could become a good offensive threat for years to come with Rondo by his side.  The future for the Celtics is a lot brighter as they now have more to build around.  3 or 4 years from now, when Green and Rondo are both in their prime, I wouldn’t be surprised if they had some more pieces around them and this team continues to make the playoffs and be a threat.

The point is, Danny Ainge is looking for the future and is looking to cater for future of Rondo rather than the present of the Big 3.

Everyone knows that Boston had a small windown of opportunity to win another ring.  If Ainge was going to start moving players, he should have never resigned the big 3.

Why not?  The Celtic’s Big 3 is still a very competitive playoff team that could still win the ring.  Why are you going to completely blow it up when you’re still a championship caliber team?

To be honest I dont really care why the Celtics did it, but I sure am glad they did. Fantastic move by the Thunder to get Perkins

Jeff Green has had a couple of years of starting to figure things out. Don’t get too excited about his upside just because he looks the part of an All Star Power Forward. If it was going to happen, it probably would have happened by now.

Perkins maybe doesn’t have upside, but the number one thing you want your center to do is defend the low post. If my center does that, I’m happy enough even if he does nothing else. I agree that the Celtics got something, but I think taking another run at a ring this year would have been worth getting nothing for Perkins. The Celts could have blown the team up next year.

I think if Ainge had known how much this was going to mess with the chemistry of the Celtics, he wouldn’t have done it. Basically it looks like the Celts are done and the big three are all going to demand trades next year so they can go to contenders or they are going to start thinking retirement.

I have to agree with Shelt on this one.  When the C’s resgined Ray Ray and Pierce along with the Shaq and J.O. signing Ainge pretty much assured themselves of a two year window beginning with the current one.  After that, your core would have been Rondo, Pierce and Perkins.  Now they have traded Perkins and drastically decreased their chances of winning it all this year and they brought in Jeff Green who does have a lot of upside but plays the same position as Paul Pierce who they just gave an extension to.

There was no point in making this trade because I don’t see Jeff Green resigning with the Celtics long term.  I didn’t really see Perk signing with them either but Perk allowed them to be more of a contender this year.

Defensive minded, rebounding big bodies aren’t a dime-a-dozen like 3-4 wing players are (Green).  If the Celtics don’t resign Jeff then this trade will look even worse.  The Celtics best option going into the offseason will be to somehow flip K.G.’s expiring contract for some assets.  The Heat might be willing to do a K.G. for Bosh trade which would make a lot of sense on both sides heading into next year.

Bosh’s contract is lower than that of K.G.’s and would allow the Celtics to resign Green and the Heat get K.G. on a one year rental while they chase a title.

Now all of this is contingent on the outcome of the new CBA.

Here is a link to the trade that I mentioned above.  I know it is a stretch but it makes sense for both sides.  The Celtics keep their championship window open and the Heat make a run with K.G. and open up cap room by ridding themselves of Mike Miller and Bosh.  Granted this is all contingent on the new CBA like I mentioned in my last post.

This move hurt the Celtics on a mental level more so than talent wise. Nothing can replace what Perkins brought to the Celtics. This reminds me of how The Pistons basically let go of Ben Wallace but on a significantly smaller scale.

If the Heat trade Chris Bosh for Kevin Garnett I’ll chop my balls off.

I personally liked the trade for Boston because having a core of Rondo and Green for the future is promising.

It definatly has hurt their current window of oppurtunity however.

    how overrated Perkins is

and how underrated Green and especially Krstic, a 16 ppg scorer a couple years ago, are

Personally, I never felt Green was a good enough PF to be on your championship team. He’s a good and versatile defender, but he’s not Rodman. Put him against a legit 6-10+ big bodied PF and he gets beaten up down low.

Now if he can become a fulltime SF and shows the skills to be a very good one, that’s another thing.

Krstic is soft. Nice off the bench, and that’s about it. I’d rather have someone like Reggie Evans.

why are people talking about the celtics future right now? They are built to win now. When you are an old team trying to win titles now, you do not make moves sacrificing now for the future, you just dont.
