People are sleeping on Demetri McCamey

Demetri McCamey is a 5-star athelete. He's also a very good, underrated player. When he was going to go to the NBA as a junior, he was projected to be a mid first round pick. Then he decided to return to Illinois for his sernior season, and he didn't do as well as he did in his junior season. His points dipped as well as his assists.

So what? Illinois has four point guards there. They have McCamey, then they have Brandon Paul, who is a great all-around point guard. They also have D.J. Richardson, who is a 3pt-specialist and a good scoring guard in general. And finally, they have a freshman guard in Crandall Head, whose brother, Luther Head, plays in the NBA, and was a starter for the 04-05 Championship team at Illinois. All of these guys have gotten significant playing time. Just because Bruce Weber thought these guys had potential and were good players coming off of the bench, that does not mean Demetri McCamey is not as good. There were two categories in which McCamey did improve. His free throw shooting, and his 3-pt shooting, as his stats there sky-rocketed.

He's a good scorer, a great passer, can make both free throws and 3-pt shots. He's a leader as well. With all of these traits, why wouldn't he be a good NBA player? I think he can be a first round draft pick, and can average 20 points and 10 assists over his NBA career. He just needs a chance.

uh, no

I was with you most of the way, but you lost all credibility at the end of your post.

He can *average* 20 and 10 over his career???? Let's see, among currently active guards, none have achieved that so far. In fact, I don't think anyone has ever achieved it (although Magic, Isaiah and Big-O came close).

So are you saying he's the best guard of ALL TIME?

I just searched and read

I just searched and read every article I could find about Demetri entering the draft last year and he did not get a first round grade from the advisory board.

Demetri is a 5-star athlete?

Demetri is a 5-star athlete? I thought guys like Rose/Wall/LBJ/Iggy/Griffin were 5-star level athletes. Demetri is closer to 3-stars by NBA standards.

No one is zzzzzzz on him at

No one is zzzzzzz on him at all! He is a huge disappointment from last season translating over to this one. How you go from leading the nation last year avg like 10 assist & being on the 1st Round radar beggining of the season to a 2nd Rounder this year & it being a very weak PG class.

dude, my mom is an Illinois

dude, my mom is an Illinois alum, their my favorite college team, i watched just about every game last year and if anyone spends a 1st pick on him will be disappointed. He's more like a 2 to 3 star athlete, he's not quick. Also, none of the 3 other guys you mentioned, none of them are point gaurds, Brandon Paul did handle the ball when Demetri was out bcuz they had no one else and Crandall Head did not play signifacant minutes at any point in the regular season, he came on in the Big Ten and NCAA tourney. He didn't show up when they needed him most having like 3-4 straight games of 6 pts or less, doesn't make free throws when it counts. I think he can stick in the league but your out of you mind, 20 and 10 over his career, you must really not watch or know much about basketball. I wish I could transfer all my negative points to you for this.

He is underrated,but saying

He is underrated, but saying he's a 5 star athlete and will average 20 & 10 is going too FAR..I dont see him being a an Andre Miller or Derrick Fisher type of old school point guard that'll get by mostly on their smarts ,not their great athletic skills...

Yeah I think at best McCamey

Yeah I think at best McCamey will be an Andre Miller-type. A strong bodied guy who has an outstanding floor game, a good shot, and who can set up teammates pretty well. This is all dependent on if he's willing to stay in shape and show a better attitude. He's notorious for not maintaining either, even though he has the talent to be a top 20 pick easily.

laughable

To call McCamey a 5 star athlete is laughable. He needs to lose weight and he is not that quick, nor can he jump that high. He is a good shooter but I dont see him making much of an impact at all in the NBA.

Andre Miller? I think we

Andre Miller? I think we should be saying Kyrie Irving can be like Andre Miller and if a team gets a young Andre Miller type player out of Kyrie they would be extremely happy, Im not comparing him to Milelr just that calibur PG.

As for 20-10...put him on the list Dymes.

I didn't mean...

I did not mean 20 points and 10 assists. I meant 15 points and 7 assists.

As far as the criticism goes, I do believe now that he isn't a 5 star athelete, but I still believe he will have an average NBA career, and at most you must agree he is a little underrated.

funny

the guy who started this thread actually has McCamey in the 2nd round in his mock draft.

What, 20 and 10 career, best PG of all time is not good enough for a first round pick?

Mr. Prod1gy

You seem like a kind and articulate young man. It would appear that you need a friend in this time as the consensus among this thread is that you are a "tool". Please do not commit suicide.

He's definitely underrated in

He's definitely underrated in my eyes, but not the way the thread started described. He reminds me of Jarrett Jack as an NBA PG.

I have him in the 2nd round.

I have him in the 2nd round. To me it's between him and Jacob Pullen as far as 2nd round point guards go.

I think if a contending team needs a backup point guard then I think they need to get a cheap veteran. Point guards, especially those taken in the second round, are 2-3 year projects. He might be better going to a rebuilding team.

This website had the Grizzlies taking him for awhile. Although we need depth at the point guard spot, I like Grevious Vazquez (decent shot, handles, tall for a pg, if slow), OJ might be a good guy to play the 3rd point guard, but I think we need to pick up a veteran point guard. I would rather the Grizzlies select depth at center or another shooter at the 2/3 spots.

I think that there a lot of good point guards in the league and some decent back up point guards plus a TON of bargain basement point guards either sitting on the end of the bench or somewhere in the D League. I am not sure that someone projected to be a possible third point guard in the league (McCamey) is on the wish list of any NBA team.

I would rather take Jacob Pullen and even Ben Hansbrough before taking McCamey.

The point guard position is totally LOADED. Probaby the deepest position in the league. If I were drafting a point guard in the second round I would rather have a leader who could take big shots (Jacob Pullen), a guy with a good shot (Ben Hansbrough), or someone with elite speed (Isaiah Thomas).

Jarrett Jack is a good

Jarrett Jack is a good comparison too. Not the defender Jack is, but it's a good comparison nonetheless.

McCamey a 5 star athlete? Did

McCamey a 5 star athlete? Did you watch any of their games? His athleticism reminds me of Marc Jackson when he was on the Pacers, backed everyone down, no lift on his jump, slow. I really dont even like comparing him to Marc Jackson cuz Marc was the rookie of the year and is #2 or 3 all time in assist. 2nd rounder at best, D-leaguer or Euro player

i really dont see him making

i really dont see him making much of an impact in the league. he may be around for a few years but even tyron lue gets in the game every now and then.

I dont see his game translating into a starting nba pg or even the backup. he may be a third pg on some team.. and even that may be a stretch.

i like mack much better than him.

Andre Miller is very bad

Andre Miller is very bad comparison, McCamey doesn't have that much talent, he is similar at best to bigger Derek Fisher or Anthony Johnson.
