PED use in the NBA

Recently I was reading up on the biogenesis scandal going on in baseball right now. The head of the biogenesis anti aging clinic that was connected to Brian Braun and A-rod claims that a number of NBA players are using PED's. In 2011 Derek Rose was asked on a scale from 1-10 how common is the use of PEDs in the NBA. His answer was a 7 out of 10. The NBA is the only sport out of the major American 3 that doesn't test for PED's. Why?

Don't tell that NBA players wouldn't benefit from taking PEDs because that so obviously false. It's 2013, they are not using common steroids we associate to juicing. In today's world you are able to recover quicker and add strength with out adding body mass. You can add quickness and jumping ability. Look at Lance Armstrong..he wasn't a huge dude or in sport that needed a vast amount of strength and yet he was on everything under the sun while dominating his sport. A player on the fringe of the NBA bouncing around the D-league has nothing to lose by taking PEDs. And that's best case senerio for the NBA. What if in the next 5 years it comes out that Kobe, lebron and wade are all using or used In the past. It honestly wouldn't surprise me. People need to realize these guys are competitors and sometimes winning/getting that contract means more then the integrity of the game.

I'm pretty sure we will have

I'm pretty sure we will have a scandal right around the corner with PEDs within the next 12 months or so. I completely agree, that a D-Leaguer or undrafted rookie has nothing to lose to get a shot to play in the league. For some reason the NBA doesn't really want to fight this topic and the actual penalties and bans actually support players to do it as they aren't banned if caught for the first time. The league for sure knows pretty good how many athletes are using PEDs and the fact that first time aren't officially named or beeing named should raise more eyebrows.

In fact I wouldn't be surprised to see some big names connected to this. I'm pretty sure that the Olympics and world championship squad is clean when the play international games and tournaments. The testing there is a random player from each team after each game and there is basically no way to hide the abuse of substances. But like I stated before, a clean team USA doesn't mean the same players don't use forbidden substances during the a normal offseason or during the season.

Imagine if someone like Kobe, Garnett or Duncan is beeing caught what this means for the lagacy of this sport and to all the kids rooting for them.

I promise to watch it when I

I promise to watch it when I have a little more time tomorrow. I know the Carl Lewis and Ben Johnson stories back then but todays drugs and testing methods are Importsogs different. We all know it's way easier to cheat today and the pharma industry will always have a edge over the testing but what I wanted to say is that international testing and tournaments have the best methods in the world. It doesn't matter that what the NBA wants to hide or which way they want to go. If you go to the Olympics and aren't clean, the changes that you are caught are extremely high.

I'm not naive enough to think that every user is beeing caught and know that todays substances are very hard to find in blood or urine but wanted to say that international play is beeing controlled WAY better than is sports. I'm sure team USA only lets players go there when they are clean for sure.

First, Olympics and FIBA

First, Olympics and FIBA don't test Team USA. NBA tests them. It's part of the NBA agreement with Olympics and FIBA.

Second, although it does not matter, since they don't test them anyway, Olympics has said many times that they do not have the ability to detect designer PEDs with any of their testing.

That is why numerous Olympics athletes tested clean by the Olympics, and later on got outed by witnesses saying they doped.

You are naive if you think

You are naive if you think the majority (or a high percentage) of professional athletes aren't on PEDs. I dont mean to come across as saying what you belive is wrong, I like to believe they're not but I know they are, and I have accepted it. There are so many different kinds of performance enhancers. PEDs are probably most used for recovery purposes in the NBA. Be it the daily grind of an 82 game season (plus practice, shootarounds, and working out) or recovering from injury (see Hedo). Its so naive to believe otherwise.
The people that say otherwise don't want it to be true or are uneducated on all the different types of PEDs.

For those of you that dont believe players are users or generally want to expand your knowledge, Here's a link to part 1 of a documentary on this topic called Bigger, Stronger, Faster:

I am terrified of PED testing

I am terrified of PED testing because I have a hunch that several prominent players will test positive. Not to mention the 'miracle training staff' in Phoenix.

I hope the league doesn't

I hope the league doesn't start testing for PED use because then I won't see enough of the highlights I've become spoiled watching over the years.

Just like with baseball...since they got aggressive with testing I no longer see anything close to a HR race....it was exciting watching Barry Bonds, Sammy Sosa, and Mark McGuire chase after records
