Paul Millsap on the block?

Now that Utah has Favors they need to do something to help him develop because that is not going to happen if just sits on the bench and comes in for Millsap. Could the Jazz move Millsap for say a SG in order to start Favors? Maybe to Charlotte for Stephen Jackson?

thats not a good idea he's a rookie and u gotta crawl before you walk....Millsap is puting up number this year it would be dumb to rebuild the starting 5 because of deron williams, Favors will be fine playing backup for now. as for down the line we'll just have to see....

I'm not saying it needs to be

I'm not saying it needs to be now but maybe in the offseason.

@CodySLC, who would you suggest then? I think Jackson has moved past his rebel days of Indy. He's learned his lesson I think much like Ron Artest did.

wardb12 you read my mind. One

wardb12 you read my mind. One of the jazz's main problems this year is they have a 6-8 PF, 6-10 C and very few shooters (and they just lost one w/o getting one back). I agree Favors needs some time but he also gives them the flexibility to move Millsap for a the SG they need. I personally think Stephen Jackson would be a great fit - he's an awesome shooter, has a lot of experience and is way past his antics in Indiana (when was the last time he was on ESPN?). The Jazz have so many assets - Millsap and Okur, AK's $18M expiring contract - I think they definitely need to make a move.

That said, with Zach Randolph's contract expiring and the Grizzlies ready to let him go, would they really turn down O.J. Mayo and DeMarre Carroll for Paul Millsap? They have been subtly trying all year to move Mayo and Millsap costs 1/2 of Randolph and is much younger.

Millsap is not even mentioned

Millsap is not even mentioned as a possible guy who will be traded anytime soon. Favors doesn't have AllStar potential imo but peopel keep saying he does( with absolutly zero proof showing that he could become a allstar)

I'm not saying now, lake show, but maybe in the offseason. Newsflash, offseason is not soon its in 4 months. In the meantime Utah can decide whether or not they need to start Favors soon.

You say that all the time, show me one case where a team came out and said " This player is up for grabs" where the player wasn't looking for a trade beforehand. It never works that way. You may not agree with me, but that never happens.

you didnt answer my question.

you didnt answer my question. Did the ESPN guy say "reports out of utah suggest" or did he just state his opinion on what the Jazz should do with Milsap?

I just read a ESPN article

I just read a ESPN article that mentioned Millsap but all it said was "Who are they after? In particular, Paul Millsap and Andrei Kirilenko are coveted." Thats a very very far cry from saying Millsap is on the block. There are many players coveted but that doesn't mean they are on the block. This isn't even on the level of being a rumor or having sources. Its on the same level of you or me saying Millsap could be traded. The article even says its Unlikely the jazz will think of trading him, which means they aren't looking but like every other player in the NBA not named Wade,Lebron,Howard,Kobe if there is a can't miss deal they would do it.

Basically Paul Millsap is NOT on the block

I just thought of this

I just thought of this randomly. I did not read any rumors or possible reports of him being on the block it just came into my mind because I knew that Favors has allstar potential and he really needs to develop that. He certainly won't do that on the bench which would mean Utah would need to trade one of their down low players. I think Millsap is the one that would go because he is the weaker of the two and he's been there for longer not that that means anything but he's a tough player and he can handle something like a trade or his name being on the block. Big AL just got here and he really likes it here. It would be kind of depressing if Utah traded him. I just think now that we have Favors, Millsap is moveable as is AK and Okur.

Utah

First of all, they need to make the determination if they are keeping Kirilenko, and if not, do they have an in-house alternative. Do they think Hayward is ready to start? Do they want to continue starting Bell? Will they retain Miles? As of right now, they have potential holes at both wing positions. So, they need to look into drafting a wing, or signing a wing and upgrading that position and fill a void.

That brings us to what they do with Millsap. I think if the Jazz were to trade someone it would be Jefferson, not Millsap. I don't think that the Jazz need to be in a rush, yet. Favors is young and you don't want to throw him into the fire too quickly. With that said, both Millsap and Jefferson are making a lot of money for 2+ more seasons, both have had up and down seasons, and they aren't a great fit with each other on the court. Okur is also still around with an contact that expires next season. Do they hold onto him, and look to trade Jefferson? And then slide Favors into that position after Okur's contract expires? Or do they trade Millsap, who likely has more value and move Favors into the 4 immediately? They have a lot of questions, and the biggest one is whether they are looking to actually rebuild, or simply reload. We'll see from the next moves they make the answer to that question.

I don't see why Millsap would

I don't see why Millsap would be on the block. Especially not after the investment they made when they matched his offer sheet from Portland. Plus, I think he's great for this team.

Jefferson on the other hand - I could see him going on the block. (For the love of God - it's called a salad!)
