In defense of Gasol, that game was lost before that play when the Lakers offense went stagnant and Kobe forced like 3-5 bad 10/10 level of difficulty type shots off of the dribble contested.

Being a teammate of Kobe is hard. It’s not about his expectations of you as a teammate or that he’s going to get on you or call you out, it’s that Kobe does some of the exact same things that he blames others for doing. Kobe takes guys out of the game all the time, by forcing shots. Just before game 2 I was telling one of my friends that I have seen countless times at the end of games where he either forces a shot or makes a bad pass. Then of course he goes out that night and proves me right. He has had some horrendous finals appearances.

With that being said, even though you should always be ready to get the ball, I don’t know if guys are ever in the mindset that Kobe is going to look for them, especially at the end of the game. Kobe took a lot of tough shots in that game. Just because he got doubled does not mean he’s not going to find a way to jack up a shot. Factor in that he’s spent a large chunk of the season often overlooking 2 of the most skilled 7 footers in the game. Most people remember mistakes at the end of games, but that’s not any less important than a turnover leading to a score in the 1st or taking bad shots throughout the games. It does not take many bad plays to make a 3 point loss.

You made some good points, but during the huddle before that play took place, Pau told Kobe to pass him the ball IF he got doubled.

 

To be honest, Pau F’d up on that play. He didn’t go into the play with the mindset to be aggressive. That’s been his problem for a long time. And the pass he threw wasn’t very aggressive as well.

 

Just a bad play by Pau. This team is tough to beat when he’s aggressive and he’s one of the most skilled players in the world. He has to play better.

pau messed up and wasnt hitting his shots all game. Hopefully getting called out makes him play angry in game 5. Kobe doesnt get mad when guys miss good shots and play with confidence. Kobe misses shots all the time. Kobe gets mad when you are mentally unprepared.

Not sure why Bynum doesn’t get more shots in the 2nd half.

 Bynum soesn’t get more touches downlow because he is a black hole, period. His passing out for the repost has gotten better, but when he touches the ball, you simply KNOW a shot is on his mind. The flow gets too stagnant.

Kobe expects the same kind of aggressiveness that he brings from his teammates night in and night out. You never hear him tak poory about Artest even though he is pure offensive garbage 9 out of 10 times because he brings passion to every game. Bynum will never be "the man" until he gets this and Gasol won’t remain a Laker if he can’t by the end of this series IMO. Better get prepared for bad news of being traded Gasol, because if he plays passive again, Kobe will be on board with Jim Buss and Kupchak for sending Gasol out for youth/picks/shooters.
