Should the Celtics go after Pau Gasol? The Celtics need a defensive, rebounding big man. While Gasol is 37 (Happy Birthday to Pau), he has still been effective. I could see Pau Gasol signing for vet minimum. What do y’all think?

     Not enough defense.

His rebounding and inside scoring (and passing) would really help.

Though, that defense wouldn’t be good.  And, as good as USELESS in a high-octane matchup with the Warriors and even the Cavs.  Not an ideal 3 point shooter.  Not great at pick and roll defense.

If they want rim protection then they need to get Javale McGee.  Also a great alley-oop guy and can play ok in up-tempo series.

Another ALL DEFENSE guy to get would be Tony Allen.  Bring him back.  Can give you really good-to-elite defense.  Hustle.  Leadership.  Can board with any wing, and scratches/claws his way to 8-10 points a night.  Can dribble up and down the court at times… they are relatively weak at backup 2 guard, and TA can play there.  Can defend 1-3 or even 1-4.  GREAT defender on Kevin Durant.  Can also play the 3 on offense.  You can probably hide him at power forward, too.  Also would be Avery Bradley insurance if he gets traded or doesn’t get resigned.  Jae Crowder insurance too, with TA being as tough, as good on D against 4’s, then probably as long even if he isn’t as big.

TA is probably one of the better values still on the board.  Makes sense for a contender.  Might make the MOST sense on Boston.

At the right price he’d definitely be worth adding.

On a slightly irrelevant sidenote, I was interested to find out that Gasol was the league leader in 3pt % this last season at 53.8% That’s pretty cool for a big man in the twilight of his career!

I think Pau’s backup with the Spurs, Dedmon, would be a better fit for Boston. More athletic/mobile and can just focus on defense and rebounding. They have enough offensive options, now they just need a guy to do the dirty work.
