If he stays in the draft...

he might go anywhere from the mid first to early second rounds. scouts are torn on him because hes undersized, not spectacularly athletic, and relatively unproven (level of competition in college). but others think he can be a pro PG. Me? I'm not convinced but hes a halfway decent prospect.

he'd be smart to not declare. next year is a much weaker PG draft

oops

my bad, i worded it wrong. i meant to say if he STAYS in the draft. Miggs is right: he announced he was going but by not hiring an agent, left the door open for returning to school. my "analysis" is still the same and i still think he should return to college one more year.

if he's smart

if he's smart he will stay at least one more year at saint mary's. patty is a great player and he'll be a solid pro one day, but i agree with damaynman about him being unproven. i think if he returns to school saint marys could make some more noise next year with omar samhan coming back and a few other solid wing players. but patty needs to stay healthy and if he does that he should be a mid to late first rounder in next years draft

Next Year

He could be a surefire lottery pick if he stays another year and improves on those PG skills.

I like him now

I watched him play 4 or 5 times this year, and a little of his action the olympics but not a whole lot. I really like him. He may take a year to develop but his height does not worry me. He is a great passer at the collegiate level and I saw many times when his teammates were not ready for passes or mishandled them; at the next level his teammates will turn them into assists. He has nba 3-point range but can be a bit streaky - but shooting is one of the easiest things to improve at the nba level - though that may sound odd to some.

All that aside he is a true leader, a hard worker, and a tough individual. I would consider taking him as high as 13 or 14 if i had a need at pg. I like him more than Collison and Holliday. Probably more than Teague and Curry. Perhaps more than Maynor and Lawson. I'd put him in a category with Flynn and Tyreke Evans. Don't get me wrong I like Maynor and Lawson quite a bit - just this draft is deep at PG.
