SombraFundidaParticipantWhat do you think is the best comparison for Pat Connaughton? What role could have him in the NBA?

BallerScriptParticipantI think the best comparison for Pat Connaughton is either Iman Shumpert or Tony Allen. Pat is an highly athletic 2 guard with great defense and those two names are the first that I think of with a description like that. I think at the start of his career he would be a d-league player with a few games in the NBA but will brek out into an energy player or sixth man in a few years.

festar35ParticipantI think he could be a lot like Shannon Brown and have a similar role to what he did in LA. Both are athletic and undersized 2-guards, I think where Pat may have the advantage is he could be a more consistent 3-pt shooter than brown ever was.

ncballerCall me crazy, but seeing him torch my heels twice, I would take him late first. Seeing him grab rebounds over Brice Johnson gave me a mancrush on him. Tougher more consistent Iman Shumpert.

llperezi was impressed with him in the tourny vs kentucky. He gaurded WCS straight up. Obviously they dont throw the ball to Stein much, but still pat kept WCS from getting deep position or easy baskets. I have not see nearly enough of his game to make any guess to how he might translate to the nba though.

DaGuywhodidurmaParticipantI think the perfect comp for connaughton is a more athletic 2010-11 landry fields. Look back at that season fields had for the Knicks and I think they compare well. Except for pat being a better athlete.
Pat in my opinion is going to spread the floor, rebound, hustle and move the ball. I think he can be a great role player on a playoff team.

Bed HeadParticipantHow could anyone seriously compare Connaughton to those players? I mean, WTF?! They aren’t even white!
Only playing!
In all seriousness, though, I see him as more of a cross between Bob Sura and that Dellavedova dude.

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantIs danny green a terrible comparison? Both are about the same height, good athletes, excellent catch and shoot guys, and not very good off the dribble. I think connaughton could be a very good defender at the next level and play a role similar to green.

Dog_ShammdogParticipantim surprised that nobody has made the Rex chapman comparison yet. Physically and athletically I find them very similar. I think chapman Had better ball handling though. Both highly explosive athletes with feathery jumpers. Connaughton may not be big for a sg but to say he’s undersized just isn’t true. He’s a solid and decent lengthed 6’5" with great explosion. He has the potential to guard 3 positions (maybe even 4 If playing against a small ball lineup). He has also shown uncanny timing with his great rebounding and shot blocking for his size. I believe that his eventual production will warrant a late first round pick, he has so much to offer to a rotation and having him on the floor would be a minimal risk IMO, he has no glaring deficiencies. I could see him as a Danny green type player for a playoff team from day 1.

BiggysmallsParticipantI think the Danny Green comp is solid. Shump is a decent one as well. Courtney Lee is another guy he reminds me of.
I think he could be a solid "3 and D" wing player. He could play that Raja Bell/Dahtay Jones/PJ Tucker type role for a good team and carve out a nice career.

Bed HeadParticipantWell, I thought it was funny, anyways.
Besides, it wasn’t even that bad of a comparison, actually. I mean, when you really stop and think about it. (Instead of being all like, "Ooh, she’s defying conventional opinion! Let’s neg her!")
IMO, Connaughton combines the athleticism/shaky handle of Sura with the dogged defense/super-scrubbiness of Dellavedova.
See? It, like, totally makes perfect sense now.
Plus, did I mention how all three of them are white?

MooooseParticipantThe Landry Fields comparison is the best, IMO. He’s tougher than Bob Sura, and less fluid than Shumpert. He is like a Joe Harris with more court vision.
