Parker, Wiggins, or this years number 1 pick?

If you were an NBA GM, for a team that missed the playoffs, would you rather have the 1st pick in this draft or your choice of Wiggins or Parker.

Only catch is that if you decide on Wiggins or Parker, you have to forfeit your picks for this year and you won't get either player until they play their year in college?

So your choices are:

A. 2013 1st overall pick, 2014 pick where ever that may be.

B. No pick in 2013, Andrew Wiggins in 2014

C. No pick in 2013, Jabari Parker in 2014

What would you so and why? Remember, you just missed the playoffs and you have never seen either of the younger guys play a college game.

B, easily. You don't pass on the chance at getting the possible next big thing.

Call me crazy

And I don't want y'all to think I'm saying this because I like duke but I'm going to go with Jabari Parker. I think long term he's just going to be the better player for some reason. No he isn't the athletic freak wiggins is but he smarter, shoots better, and I think just overall has a better game. No he won't have the highlights wiggins will have but I'm just going with Parker

Parker vs Wiggins is the new

Parker vs Wiggins is the new Lebron vs Melo debate. Back in 2003 Lebron was the freak athlete who couldn't really shoot but had all the potential. Melo was the polished scoring machine but was a lesser athlete. It's funny how history repeats itself a decade later. You gotta take Wiggins and hope he adds muscle to compete against the top tier SFs in the League.

B

then C

i mean we don't know who is an actual 1st pick this year and how far his potential will take him, BUT so far I see NO players in this years draft who I would pick top3 next year

I think if you get Wiggins or

I think if you get Wiggins or Parker you are going to be very happy with what you get. I think if you get the number 1 pick this year, there's a very good chance you are going to get someone who doesn't live up to that bill.

Option A: I'll take Noel with

Option A: I'll take Noel with the 1st have him sit out a year then tank and take one of Gordon, randle, wiggins, Parker, or Harrison

The only reason I thought

The only reason I thought anyone would pick A would be to get 2 young, potentially great, players versus 1.

With A you could potentially have McLemore and Julius Randle. Or Nerlens Noel and Andrew Harrison. Or Marcus Smart and Willie Caulley-Stein.

This is a no brainer pick

Andrew Wiggins has a chance to be the next big thing in basketball...the other two options just don't measure up

While I agree with most of

While I agree with most of the points brought up in the thread, people need to be aware that Wiggins isn't near the passer and playmaker that Lebron was - and that was a big reason why he was such a special prospect and why he's the best player in the game right now.

This draft is horrible.....

This draft is horrible..... Whoever is the #1 pick probably wouldn't even make the top 5 of next years draft. You do whatever it takes to get Parker or Wiggins. If you thought there was tanking this year by playing young players just wait until next year. Teams will go crazy trying to get Wiggins and Parker and it will be a race to see who can finish last.

Is it me or........

.....does Wiggins depend a lot on athleticism? Someone compared him to Lebron coming out of high school. That is a poor comparison. While Lebron was a freak athlete who struggled from the perimeter Lebron was an ELITE passer and great ball handler at the same age. You saw the skill level that he had even as a 18 year old.

Last night I was waiting for Wiggins to pat the rock like Aaron Gordon was doing. To show some ability to create space with a dribble move. I know it was an all star game but he never showed that. He does have an explosive first step but he goes right and then he almost always comes back with a spin move to his left if he can't beat you with the initial move.

I am very curious to see him play.

More and more I question scouts and the comments they make because the scouting process is so political.

I loved Aaron Gordon's game. He has a very nice handle, a crazy motor, can pass the rock, and we know he finishes. If he adds a jump shot he can be the best player from this group.

Wiggins obviously is viewed as having the most upside because of his ridiculous bounce and athleticism.

I guess I will wait to see the jump shot and the skill set when USA takes on the World. That should be a competitive environment.

yea, Durant could shoot and

yea, Durant could shoot and developed a handle, lebron could handle and pass and developed a shot. Wiggins has neither of those at a level near lebron or durant when they were his age. Jabari Parker can shoot and has an all around game. He will have to work on his athleticism.

Wiggins needs to put in more

Wiggins needs to put in more work, no doubt about it but he is just a HS senior. His perimeter game needs work but he has great lift and good form on his jump shot. Needs to tighten his handle a bit too. I won't judge his playmaking ability yet as he is playing with HS kids and is more effective as a scorer. He isn't a Lebron type passer but there is no reason to think he won't be able to get 5 to 6apg just of driving and kicking, transition and hitting cutting big men when he drives. He has supreme athleticism. His first step is nasty and he jumps and floats. A little muscle and work on finishing through contact and he is there. So while he isn't Lebron, I think he is the most sure fire franchise player since Lebron.

All that said, B is the only option I would choose. Now if Parker were eligible this year and Wiggins was not, I would take Parker first this year just as easily as I would take Wiggins if he were. Those 2 are head and shoulders above anyone in this draft class, IMO.

Great point JoeCheck88...

I definitely see the potential in Wiggins... The things you mentioned are very tough to just "show up with" one day. A tight handle and a jump short are keys for a successful wing player. If you have a tight handle and an inconsistent jumper you can make it. If you have a great jumper and an inconsistent handle you can do something. To need to work on both is something I will be interested in seeing. His athleticism is off the charts so I know the thought is if he gets those things look out.

I also want to see him in a more competitive environment. Obviously this was an all star game so tough to take much from it.

Pretty sure KD35 would have something to say about that. haha

.....

Definitely agree strobox88...

He is gifted to the ends of the universe athletically but I want to see what "skill" sets him apart from his contemporaries.

Durant was essentially a 6'9-6'10 guard with range out to the parking lot.

Lebron was a 6'8 passing magician with ball handling skills and a Karl Malone body.

Wiggins is a great athlete at this time... I want to see more of him. Obviously his athletic tools are things you just don't see even at the pro level. He is an amazing athlete.

I meant from out of HS. Haha.

I meant from out of HS. Haha. No doubt KD is a franchise player but he was picked second and there were questions about how successful he could be in the league with his lack of strength.

If the choice is the first

If the choice is the first round pick this year or next year then obviously I'd take 2014. It is almost like 2006 when you had a weaker draft with the one year in college rule kicking in and then in 2007 you had Oden. KD and co.

If the team that got top pick this year lets say it was Charlotte were offered a likely 2014 lottery pick by lets say Orlando for that pick, then I if I was a gambling GM I'd be tempted to take it as you'd probably get two lottery picks in 2014 with your own pick and the one you traded this year's first for. Although the flip side is the team you do the trade with gets two very high picks this year and so could improve next season and the pick they send you declines in value.

Once this year's draft order has been settled I can see teams looking to trade into the 2014 draft if there is nothing there they fancy this year but you will also have the canny GM's looking to maybe buy in or trade up if there is someone they like. Also all teams will know the value of 2014 picks so we may not see many being traded over the next year or so.

Teams like Charlotte who receive a limited protection pick from Detroit and have to send one to Chicago in the next few years could have a huge eye on the deep 2014 draft. Likewise Cleveland may well still be due something else then and even Denver who receive the Knicks 2014 first rounder along with with own could have two later first rounders next year but might have nice draft options or even a trade up potential in a deep draft.
