Bill Walton’s KneesParticipantSimeon vs. Montverde highlights Cancer Research Classic
A showdown between a pair of likely preseason No. 1s highlights the 2013 Cancer Research Classic to be held Jan. 4-5 in Wheeling, W.Va.
Wheeling Jesuit University will play host to 19 teams over two days in one of the biggest showcases of the 2012-13 season, headlined by a clash between three-time defending Illinois Class 4A state champion Simeon (Chicago) and Kevin Boyle’s loaded Montverde Academy (Fla.) squad.
Simeon, led by star senior Jabari Parker, is the early leader to claim preseason No. 1 honors in MaxPreps.com’s Xcellent 25. Montverde Academy – featuring five-star Florida Gator commitment Kasey Hill – is a strong candidate for Academy Top 10 No. 1 billing.
Upstart Prime Prep of Dallas will face a daunting Friday-Saturday double dip, taking on Andrew Wiggins and Huntington Prep (W.Va.) and Jahlil Okafor and Whitney Young (Chicago).
Other teams scheduled to participate and likely to garner mention in preseason rankings include DeMatha (Hyattsville, Md.), Neumann-Goretti (Philadelphia), Salesian (Richmond, Calif.) and St. Benedict’s Prep (Newark, N.J.).

ChewyParticipantHere is a funny (and I think pretty awesome) story on Simeon’s latest state title.
After Simeon won their third straight state title over half the players on the team took off their shoes and left them on the court and went to the locker room. The players reason for doing this was that the state championship game was "their house" and they "own it." The implied message was that you always take off your shoes when you enter your house and any team they play against in the final is just a team who happens to be visiting their home.
I thought that is was a great idea for a 3 peat state champion. The underclassmen who took part in it were suspended one game in this years season (Parker NOT included).

seniokasParticipantParker wasn’t included because he didn’t left his shoes. He was giving an interview at that moment.
