Am I the only person that thinks w/ the way the NBA is transitioning into a small ball kinda league that Jabari would have alotta upside as a part time 4 man?

It would negate his biggest weaknesses (footspeed, perimeter defense). He’s actually not a bad team defender, its just that when he’s on an island he gets exposed. On tha perimeter, he’s an average athlete. At the four, however, he could be a match up nightmare.

He can stroke it from deep, get to the cup, he can handle the rock, he’s shown flashes of being able to be a bit of a facilitator. He can also rebound the basketball & is a decent weakside defender.

I’d love to hear your thoughts

Not a bad team defender???  Have you seen any Duke games this year?  He has no idea how rotate on defense.  I’ve counted at least ten times he’s been so late on rotations and he was posterized a couple of times at Notre Dame because of it.  A facilitator?  He has 69 turnovers and 37 assists on the year.  He has tunnel vision going to the hoop and never passes, and he has thrown up tons of wild shots because he doesn’t look to get other guys involved.

He’s really not a bad team defender. He’s a very good weakside shot blocker for a 3. He rotates very well when he’s playing the 4. His problems come on perimeter defense, as his rotations aren’t as crisp there. It’s probably because he played the 4/5 in high school. But he’s been our best interior defender this season, and has nearly half of our blocks on the year.

      ^ exaxtly this.

if you watch him play and not go off ESPN , you would know Parker plays a low IQ form of basketball.

he’s not a good passer, overall defender, and not a good 3 point shooter. he has a decent mid range, but its getting overrated by many at this point. he had a stretch where he struggled in the year because he kept shooting from the perimeter. he came out of his struggles by stop taking shots outside the paint, playing mostly PF.

i cant see him playing the 3 and if he played the 4 in the NBA, he would be decent, i jus dont think he can become a star player at that position. too undersized, not a good defender, and his post game isnt there yet. he would jus be a decent player at that position

I said he’s shown flashes of being both of them. Just as he’s rotated late & had turnovers & thrown up wild shots, he’s also had weakside blocks, had some great passes & has made some of those wild shots.

    Thanks for your feedback though

I see what you’re saying.  They were very very brief flashes.  He’s an obvious talent, but nowhere close to what he could be if he works on his defense, and facilitating for teammates.  If he even becomes an average defender and facilitator he has a chance to be a very good player.

Yeah, that’s very true. I was just thinking he could be a decent post defender just based off the fact that he has more than enough size to play in today’s NBA. And as a 4man, he’d be one of the leagues top passers at his position.

but he’s not a good passer.

he’s averaging 1.3 assists as of now and thats basically jus kicking it out to the open man when he’s doubled or trapped down low.

he doesnt create for his teammates and doesnt set them up.

Ok.  I also see how teams could use Parker as a small ball 4 in some situations but not all the time.

But the dynamic is there.  I guess you could contrast that with Julius Randle who can really only play one position (power forward).

Parker needs to play the small forward spot for the most part but he should be able to mix it up.

I think that if the Jazz were to land him he would be the perfect replacement for Marvin Williams in there line up. A line up of Burke Burks Hayward Parker Favors isnt scaring anyone defensivly but that team could fill it up and i think at least offensively compliments eachother well. Burks is a top 15 player at dribble penetration in the league, and this leaves alot of open looks for others, I personally have him as my favorite to win Most improved next year, only if he signs an extension this summer. I think the Jazz are trying to hid him in order to drive down his price. And where parker would make the biggest difference is in terms of Gordon not being the #1 option. Hes not a #1 and has shot real poorly this year because of it. I pray every night that a similar situation occurs this summer as with pek and the wolves last where the feeling is we will match just about anything and therefor no teams even find it worth it to throw an offer at gordy.
