bobbybParticipantOutlaw isnt a bad player and he was a very good signing. Of course he isnt Lebron but a lot of teams missed out on Lebron. The only reason why he was traded was because they needed a big( Camby) and the Blazers are the deepest team in the league at the wing position.

McWinningParticipantAs a Blazer fan hes very talented but If your expecting him to be a allstar youll be dissapointed.
He has so much talent, but he makes so many dumb plays.
Hes best served as a sixth man but hes gonna put up pretty good ofensive numbers.

bkballerParticipantOutlaw was a horrendous panic move signing. The guy got 35 million dollars to be a bench player. Hes been in the league for 7 years now, he is basically what you see is what you get kinda guy. Only move i approve of this summer by the Nets is signing Morrow, the rest of the signings were signing people just to do so, and pretend like they made some sort of movement…

WizardofOzParticipantI agree bkballer. Outlaw is a good player but the thing that makes this a bad signing is that the Nets overpaid for him. They overpaid for all their free agent signings. They overpaid for Outlaw, Petro, Farmar, and tried to overpay for Tyrus Thomas but the Bobcats matched their offer. And all those players I just mentioned are only role players. When the New Jersey Nets didn’t get a max free agent, they got really desperate and overpaid for all these role players. They had a very disappointing free agency IMO.

Lotto StudParticipantAs a Nets fan I am not pleased @ all with the off season additions, except for in the draft I love Favors & James will be a decent player for years to come.

bkballerParticipantYee say what you want about Amare’s Knees, the Nets spent 20 million a year on regular role players, when they already had regular role players at more than half the price that they let go. I do think Morrow was a steal though…

Lotto StudParticipantI was really upset that we traded Jordan Crawford’s rights, because I thought he would’ve came off the bench as the 6th man & gave us instant offense.

Mr.Knick 32ParticipantThey overpaid him though. I don’t think Outlaw was worth 35 million.

Malik-UniversalParticipantvery tru they overpaid outlaw, but think bout it tho, the nets had a lot of money, and they needed to attract free agents, and i guess they felt they needed to over pay some guys to get better as a team, and get guys to pay for them

Mr.Knick 32ParticipantYea but 35 million for Outlaw? I think you could have got him for 25 million.
Petro is worth 10 cents let alone 10 million
Farmar and Morrow were good signings.

kerry kittlesParticipantMany free agents where overpaid this offseason the Nets weren’t the only team to overpay. Petro’s getting $3 million a year, but probably deserves to be paid $2 million. Outlaw getting $7 million a year, but probably deserves to be paid $5 million. I think Farmar and Morrow are deserving of their contracts so they overpaid by about $3 million. Not a huge deal. They’ll still have $15-16 million in cap space next year.
They did well in the draft getting Favors and James. They just traded an expendable player, Courtney Lee for a power forward they desperately. All in all I don’t think it was a bad offseason.0 - Posted on: Thu, 08/12/2010 - 10:56am #374086

bkballerParticipantyes but none of those guys are impact guys who will seriously upgrade the Nets. One thing is to overpay for an upgrade, another is to overpay for space fillers.

llperezoutlaw wasnt a panic move signing. They said they targeted him all along and were very big on him. As soon as the top guys werent coming, he was onbective number 1 for them. Whther or not that is smart is debateable, but it wasnt a panic move.
Farmar is not overpaid either. 4 mill per for a guy who can play a lot better now that he is out of the triangle is gonna prove to be a very solid move.

bkballerParticipantthey can say w/e they want, they also said they didnt want anyone other than wade and james at one point…Prokarov is just talk and im not sure he knows what he is doing… he was just talking about how he is collecting young assets and then trades one for a one year rental a few days later.

llperezwell we can all understand why he went after wade and lebron. I dont think him not getting them is proof that he is all talk. Fact is they piad outlaw well, they got him quick and they said from the get go that they are very high on him and had him targeted all along.

bkballerParticipantreally a 7 year veteran that has a career average of 9 points and 3 rebounds per game, that actually plays the position you sort of have a logjam at, unless you want him as an undersized 4….thats the guy you really went after hard after you missed out on Lebron and Wade….

bkballerParticipantthey also offered tyrus thomas 40 million and tried to pay scola almost 70 (7-8 mill more than he took with the rockets)… so in an ideal nets summer they would have signed
scola for 70 mill
thomas for 40
and outlaw for 35instead he paid 18 mill a year for 4 role players…
ye great plan by prokorov

llperezi dont remember hearing anything about the tyrus or scola offers, but if thats true then that would have been dumb. I doubt for one second that tyrus would have turned down money to stay in charlotte since he had no real ties there other then half a season.

bkballerParticipantYes it is true…. I m pretty sure thomas even signed an offer sheet but the bobcats matched. Scola took a paycut to stay with the rockets. Imagine nets spennding 145 million this summer on scola, thomas and outlaw….

kerry kittlesParticipantthe scola offer was rumored. scola definitely would have signed the offer sheet if it was true because the rockets made it clear they would match any offer on scola so that would have resulted in scola making more money and staying on the rockets.
they did offer thomas that deal and thankfully the bobcats matched.
they didn’t offer amar’e a max contract which was smart. they also were in serious conversation with david lee, but back out when the warriors offered him $13 a year which was smart too.0 - Posted on: Thu, 08/12/2010 - 12:08pm #374186

5 years, 40 mil was also thrown to Ty Thomas.

sheltwon3ParticipantThey overpaid him based on the fact that they could have gotten him cheaper but I think his game will make up for that and they still have cap room so it is not like his signing will hurt them long term. Outlaw is a player in the mold of Gerald Wallace, Josh Smith. He is in between positions but because he can get his shot off, I think he will be a solid 3 playing in NJ. He is a lot better than people give him credit and he also has spent many years in the NBA since he came in out of high school. He could be a most improve player if they give him minutes and touches.

McWinningParticipantThose three players arent comparable really.
Outlaw has good size, and athletacism, and hes not really a good defender, but Outlaws a good shooter unlike them.
