This should surprise nobody, as GM Rob Hennigan was relieved of his front office responsibilities earlier this morning. Assistant GM Matt Lloyd will be promoted to interim general manager and is reportedly being seriously considered as Henny’s full-time replacement.

Well….. Hennigan (the NBA’s youngest general manager) was widely regarded as an up-and-coming executive during his first couple years on the job. He exhibited great patience in the Dwight Howard blockbuster deal, netted a young Tobias Harris for an expiring JJ Reddick contract that was for sure going to leave town, drafted Victor Oladipo (a solid selection) in what many considered a sub-par 2013 draft. Aaron Gordon was a solid choice at #4 in 2014, but they miscast him as a SF this year and gave away his minutes to mid-tier wings that weren’t going to move the needle at all (more on that later). That’s where the compliments end though.

Orlando has finished last in the SE division 5 years in a row, and sold "low" on their assets repeatedly. They traded Dario Saric and a future 1st for Elfrid Payton, who looks like someone between the 21-25th best starting PG in the league. To appease former coach Scott Skiles they traded away Tobias Harris for Ersan Illyasova & Brandon Jennings, without even receiving something as mild as a 2nd round pick too. They traded away a top 10 SG in Oladipo & their 2016 lottery pick for a 4 month rental of Serge Ibaka. They signed JEFF FRICKIN’ GREEN to stifle AG’s growth this year, and overall constructed a roster centered around big bodies who can’t shoot from the outside. Not Good. Oh… and let’s not forget about the White-board incident 🙂

Orlando needs to hire a GM that understands the value of floor spacing, has successful experience running a team, and won’t be taken advantage of by every competing front office in the league. I’d be very interested to hear this forum’s take on who would be good candidates to take his place that the franchise can realistically attain.

with Chicago more than Orlando. He was a pretty big proponent of both the Elfrid Payton & Hezonja selections & draft day trade. I see both as quality back-ups or low-end starters in their primes. Payton did have a handful of triple-doubles after the AS break, but his style of play has not contributed to wins when he operates with a high-usage. Plus his defense, supposedly his calling card, is extremely inconsistent and gets roasted on that end of the floor 2 out of 3 games.

I’m not saying Matt Lloyd is bad, but i like his body of work more with the Bulls than the Magic.

I just checked and it looks like Lloyd is the interim GM, Smart Move.. Knowing Hezonjas personality hes probably mentally checked out.. He can play though. I think Lloyd is a great hire def has an eye for finding talent.

He should have lost his job immediately for the Ibaka trade – that’s the type deal you make when you are one piece away from contention – not a young rebuilding team.  Gave up way too much then compounded it by shuffling him off for 50% of what they have up to get him – dope

I think the $51 million over three left on Biyombo’s contract, the $68 million over four left on Fournier’s contract, the highly underrated $22 million left of DJ Freaking Augustin’s contract, and the remaining $21 million on Terrence Ross’ contract he took back in the Ibaka trade assure us that while Hennigan is gone he will not be forgotten.

Is he going to write a manifesto?
