Lots of similiarities between the two in terms of size, inside outside game, defense So which one is better and/or will end up being better??

After starting at the d league DMo looked like a better player and started to come on his own in the nba. He he has a better upper body frame and a little more athletic than Olynyk. Still I give the edge or i predict will be a better player vs Dmo he has an edge in handles, post moves and shooting skills.

Montie vs Oly would be a nice matchup to see when the Rockets and Celtics play against one another

Would you go out and pay NBA price tickets to just to see this matchup alone? Where as these two players might one day become legit NBA players neither is at this point is a starting caliber player.

Than whose starting for the Rockets?? Howard and Asik? TJones?
Montie has a better chance than either. Howard and Asik up front won’t work

As for the celtics, they have limited options also. Olynyk likely won’t start the begining of the year but like Sully will make it into the starting lineup imo. Brings more to the table than either Humphries, Bass and Sullinger can bang at the Center spot.

Greg Smith started at the 4 at the end of the year. Personally I think he is best served as a backup 5 but if they really plan on keeping Asik then they might just start Smith at the 4. Asik will be the backup 5. TJones I think will be a 3/4 and Motie will back up the 4/5. I hope they change their minds and trade Asik though because I think Motie and Jones are ready to contribute right now.

LOL what’s the difference which one of them is the 4 and which is the 5 on paper? They both play down low, can’t shoot so they don’t stretch the floor and don’t compliment each other in any way. They take the same space on offense and both are better off as shot blockers and help defenders down low. So no, Howard can’t play the 4 with Asik at the 5.

Yes to them playing together. Teams would have an extremely difficult time scoring in halfcourt offense with those two. They can both obviously protect the rim/paint but both are good in PnR defense with their ability to move their feet. Yes, I know Howard was horrendous in this area last year but he still has the ability and I am assuming some of his play, and what looked like lack of effort was due to his injuries. Offensively just have Harden-Howard PnR or any Lin (or when Beverly and Canaan takes over!) Harden – Howard Asik two man game with the other big opposite looking for action towards the hoop when his man helps and Chandler Parsons and other guard spacing. Would be nice if Robinson was working on his outside shot and he could come in and be consistent from 17+, I guess Jones, Donatas as well. If they could work out a deal for a real stretch 4 moving a PG-preferably Lin and one of their younger bigs, Smith/Donatas whoever….. That would make the Asik/Howard better with a true stretch 4 coming off the bench, but I would still ride with it because of that defensive potential, especially in the playoffs.

Montiejunas is a much better athlete and is a decent defender and can easily become a very good one, and Olynyk is a better mid range shooter

Olynyk is a competent defender also. Even though i agree he is slightly less athletic, olynyk is more agile and co ordinated

I think Motiejunas will end up better.

Olynyk does have handles but he won’t be able to beat many Nba Power forwards of the dribble because he doesn’t have great quickness. He still can play the 4 offensively because he can shoot, but the question is can he guard guys like Ryan Anderson, Josh Smith, Chris Bosh and other Pf’s who play on the perimeter? He’s quick for his size, but not quicker than most of today’s 6’8-6’9 Pf’s. I think he’ll be more successful playing the 5 in the future, but needs to add strength. He will have a great chance to study the game and find his position in the Nba this year and will play a ton of minutes because the C’s don’t have many options.

The thing about Motiejunas that people don’t understand is he’s not a center and it’s unlikely that he will ever be. He is a power forward who stretches the floor, likes to play on the perimeter and the high post and runs the floor. He isn’t strong enough and good enough at protecting the rim to play the 5. He has loads of potential and the opportunity to end up as a player with a great offensive package similar to Bargnani’s, but unlike him, Motie actually plays defense and rebounds the ball at least decently. D-Mo is also not afraid of contact and has really good basketball IQ for a young player. I think he will have a much better year this season because he fits in with Howard and will likely start for them. I would predict something like 11ppg. and 5rpg. in 24-28 min. for him in next year.

I dont get ur examples. You state montie will be better and olynyk wont b able to play against guys like bosh, yet montie who you consider a 4 can play against bosh?

If thats not what you mean and both will have issues vs guys like bosh, than why will montie b better than olynyk?

Motie is quicker than Olynyk and overall more athletic. Guys like bosh like to drive the ball or use their quickness in the post. That’s the usual Pf in the Nba nowadays if you think about it. So Motie will be better guarding the 4 spot than Olynyk, because he’s quicker and lighter. Olynyk’s advantage is that he’s slightly longer and that’s why I think he will be better off as a center in the long run. If he can put on the muscle and improve his rebounding he’s gonna be a great man in the middle. I think I made it cleat enough. And don’t tell me you think Bosh is a center.

Its your opinion but montie imo is not any quicker than oly. And also oly is no center in the nba, even if he gets stronger. He can play it vs small ball but he is not a more than compentent rebounder to play the 5.

Btw i dont think bosh is anything special. Sure he will drive in or shoot vs oly but is he going to b able to handle a 7 ft with the offensive skills of oly? Oly with his strength will prob post up bosh at will. Bosh is overrated

If they get similar playing time this year, it could be interesting to see how they develop. I’ve always been a bit of a fan of Motiejunas so I’ll not pass jidgement until I see them both in action next season as currently my view would not be impartial.
