With all the news of recent drop outs from the Olympic USA team this summer, what are you guys proposed 12 man squads looking like. Recent news has Westbrook dropping out, and Cousins is in. How would the nbadraft.net community round out this partially hindered squad? (for recent USA  standards)

I would have to see everyone who’s out. But I don’t think it matters who our 12 are. We will still win.

I am really looking forward to see what Canada and Aussies can put together. I know Simmons is out but have you heard about Exum? Also, what about Wiggins? They could be solid.

Canada will be limited as well.  Wiggins just decided not to participate.  Kelly Olynyk(shoulder surgery) and Nik Stauskas are also out.  Tristan Thompson might not want to do the olympics after the finals either.  Jamal Murray would be coming off of the draft a couple weeks before.

There is real concern from the entire Aussie Olympic camp about Zika virus. Bogut has announced hes a possibility to withdraw.

I really wouldnt expect much from Exum and if the Aussies are serious, I doubt he gets many minutes given his lack of preparation.

    Simmons is definitely out

Mills, Delly and a very good Euro called Broekhoff will demand most of the backcourt minutes.

We will have to wait and see…but the fear of Zika is real.

Who is out so far? I think I’ve heard Curry, Westbrook, Paul, Wall, Harden and Durant say they are out (just going off memory so I may be wrong or be missing some guys). Heard Cousins was put on. Heard George said he would participate. I doubt Lillard would say no.

Going off of their invites and who said they’re out, this is what I’d do so far (very hard decisions):

Point Guards: I think you have to go with 3 in case of an injury or something as you’ll always need some good ball handlers and guys who can control the tempo. So I’d go with Irving/Lillard/Conley (Thomas is next up).

Shooting Guards: Thompson and Butler are the only two that really stand out (Beal next up).

Small Forwards: James, Leonard and George are all great players that can play the 3 or 4 (Iguodala is next up).

Power Forwards: Anthony and Green. Hard to keep Carmello off the team and Greens diversity and role playing us key (next up is Aldridge).

Centre: Cousins and Howard. Chose veteran Howard over Jordan/Drummond (Jordan is next up).

Still easily the best team out there.

If Durant is in then I think I’d have to take off Conley. Yes, I’d like to have 3 point guards but you have to go with the best talent. Plus Lebron, Durant, Butler and George can all handle the ball quite well so I don’t really see ball handlers being a problem.

Also, with Aldridge out, my next up PF would have to be Love. Not a really hot choice right now but in international ball I could see him doing well with his shooting, below the rim game and his ability to play both PF and C. His lack of athleticism won’t stand out as much either.

Agree.  We are going to need more long ranger shooter.   Just a question. But is kevin love out.  There a lot of hate on him at the moment.   I think with lebron leading the team.love makes the team.

Point Guard- Kyrie Irving( Westbrook, Curry and Paul dropped out so Irving is the next most talented should be the starting 1.

Damian Lillard( If it weren’t for the Duke connection Lillard might could be a starter on this team but for now I think he’ll be fine coming off the bench.)

Mike Conley( a veteran true point guard. Can be the steady playmaker of the team with score first guards like Lillard and Irving. Also best defender of the point guards he can play a j kidd role on this team.)

Shooting Guard- Klay Thompson( quickly approaching best shooting guard in the league status and best catch and shoot player in the league should start at the 2.)

Jimmy Butler (Best all around shooting guard level. Excellent 2 way player that should be able to fit in on any unit and make plays on both sides of the ball.)

Small Forwards- Durant (indecisive with all the free agency hoopla but has previously committed to USA so I look for him to make good on that promise)

Paul George (Was promised a spot by coach K himself obviously if healthy enough. Recently said he’s looking forward to Rio so he should be a lock.)

Kawhi Leonard ( Best 2 way player on the team and reigning 2 time NBA defensive player of the year. Will be a lock if he wants in and the best perimeter defender on the team.)

Power Forward- Carmelo Anthony( No Anthony Davis or Blake Griffin makes this an easy decision. Melo is a vet and prototypical 4 man in Olympic play easy decision if he wants in.

Draymond Green-(Versatile defender, facilitator and excellent rebounder should bring alot of energy to either unit)

Center- Demarcus Cousins( Best offensive big man in the league reportedly offered a spot on Rio already. He should be the starting 5 man from the jump.)

Andre Drummond( Best young rebounder in the league who has experience with team USA in 2014. Should control the glass easily and serve as the main rim protector on the team)

That’s exactly how I see it playing out. If I could choose the team myself I’d probably find a spot for Paul Millsap but obviously the selectors don’t rate him as highly as I do since he didn’t even make the top 30.

Will be interesting to see who wants to go and who doesn’t, if it wasn’t for Zika, I’d guess Team USA would be all in given that Olympics is less of a long haul for them than going to Europe or Asia.

Team USA could probably send a totally 2nd string team and still be favourites.

Has there been any concerns from the coaching staff about travelling. Coach K and Jerry Colangelo are both older gentlemen now and health issues could be more concern to them than to elite athletes.

We STILL have some top guys, including our incredible rotation of small forwards.

I even had Klay Thompson and Jimmy Butler as my shooting guards BEFORE James Harden dropped out of contention.

I think I am going to go with a snarky, tongue in cheek 12 man roster.

I am going to go with a FULL MEMPHIS team.  Guys who are either ON the Memphis Grizzlies, USED TO PLAY for the Memphis Grizzlies, played for the Memphis Tigers, OR who are just from Memphis.

PG: Mike Conley, Kyle Lowry, Derrick Rose

SG: OJ Mayo, Tyreke Evans, Tony Allen

    SF: Rudy Gay, DeMarre Carroll

    PF: Zach Randolph, Thaddeus Young

    C: Hassan Whiteside, Brandan Wright

GREAT point guard rotation.  Conley is in the discussion now anyway.  Lowry should be, too.  D Rose gives you an athletic/attacking game that the USA team always needs.  Even Tyreke can play point.

Good mix at the 3 with Rudy and DeMarre.  Tony Allen can ALSO play some small forward…

Less depth inside, but Z Bo is one of the best on the blocks.  Whiteside (A Grizzlies preseason cut two years ago) can PLAY.  Wright can block shots and run to the rim when healthy.  Thad’s game should translate to international competition.

Probably could use some more shooting though…

Alternate: Mike Miller.  Ancient but can still hit the 3 ball.

Coaching staff: Tubby Smith, John Calipari, Luke Walton (assistant coach at U of M for like two weeks), Lionel Hollins, and Hubie Brown.

      Probably the best case scenario….

Lowry-Beal-Hayward-Faried as 3rd, 4th stringers, first call ups, if more warriors/cavs are out…

      Gay-Love-Plumlee after that.

Wall is officially out, Lillard wans’t in the 30 preselected(should swallow his pride), Conley is injury prone and FA(hard to see him, way more legit reasons than others).

Irving injury prone, finals,  ain’t a PG either.

Cuious to see the final roster.

It will be interesting to see if "Problem Child" DMC decides to go given his persona. I could see him being the sort of person to be jumpy about the Zika issue. But the lure of a likely Olympic Gold Medal may be too tempting for him.

Guys going into free agency will be an issue too as getting that sorted is going to be their and their agents main concern,

Also might teams try and stop valuable asset players going to the Olympics I wonder

Guys going into free agency will be an issue too as getting that sorted is going to be their and their agents main concern,

Also might teams try and stop valuable asset players going to the Olympics I wonder
