Victor Oladipo declined the Washington Wizards' invitation to work out at their facility ahead of this month's NBA draft, according to sources.
Oladipo does not expect to begin his NBA career with his hometown Wizards.
Oladipo has given the Wizards the option of watching him work out at DeMatha or another facility in Bowie, where he has been preparing for the draft.
Even so, the Wizards are likely to visit Oladipo early next week.
I thought it was crazy his reason. The Wizards have John Wall and bradley Beal so he won't work out for them, but he'll workout for Cleveland, I don't know what the problem may be but that's crazy.
Still trying to figure out why he will work out for the Cavs who have Kyrie Irving and Dion Waiters but not the Wizards who have John Wall and Bradley Beal, a ton of people on here have said they'd take the Cleveland Cavaliers tandem over the Washington tandem but no one seems to think his reason for working our for one and not the other is weird.
He has a workout with Cleveland scheduled for next week.
I Guess him turning them down means 2 things..1.With Wall and Beal looking like their starting backcourt for the next deacde..He doesnt want to come off the bench...2 .He doesnt think he's a small forward....
I think that Rude Boy may have hit it on the head as usual as I see no other reason for a guy who is listed to go maybe 4 to 8 declining a work out with a top 3 team. With Washington I wondered if Beal might be more a scoring 6th man than Oladipo who might play a Thebo type role as a starter for a team like Washington.
Oladipo knows he's in demand. He can afford to workout for whoever he wants and still get picked early. He offered the Wiz a chance to go see him workout on his terms. What's the problem?
This is what happens when a franchise is so horrible for so long. Nice way of Dipo saying "please don't draft me".
Nope..Oladipo has declined workouts for several teams.. Only pre-draft workout he has done is for the Suns.
No point in working out for the team if the possibility of them taking him is very slim.. Cody Zeller also declined a Wizards workout.
Heres some more on the Oladipo decline: http://wizofawes.com/2013/06/16/nba-draft-2013-victor-oladipo-declines-w...
Washington isn't a winning environment, nobody tries on defense and you have injury/ball hog problems.
Wow I guess everyone thinks Washington is a great place to win games...when was the last time they made the playoffs?
I mean, they already have Wall/Beal in the backcourt. Not a big deal.
It's really not that big of a deal. Wall and Beal are starters with All-Star futures. Plus, the Wiz already have defensive specialists coming off their bench.
They probably wont draft Dipo anyways, so why overextend yourself?
From what I've heard, Cleveland is considering the possibility of bringing Waiters off the bench as he did in Syracuse. I personally think it's ridiculous to relegate the 4th pick to a sixth-man role after 1 season, but that's what I heard. So visiting Clevleand, while also a long shot, makes more since than Washington DC
He doesn't want to workout for a team that he'd be a sixth man for and/or he doesn't want to be a small forward.... You know, unless you can have the tag of number one overall pick. Thats why he'd workout for Cleveland and not Washington.
Washington doesn't. Beal is purely a shooting guard and while he can handle he doesn't have point guard instincts and neither does Oladipo. Besides every team is going to want to interview and workout Oladipo, he's one of those guys that high on every ones board. I would think some teams have Noel, Burke and or Zeller not even in their top 10. Some prospects just have polar detractors but Oladipo has a very high floor and you no he can physically compete with world class athletes. I wouldn't work out for the Wiz if I was McLemore either. It's like Len working out or interviewing for the Pistons, its pointless.
Wall only has one year left on his contract, so talking about him as the PG for the next decade is very premature.
I think he just wants to put his best foot forward and that means on his own terms in his own building. Smart since he can do very little to improve his draft stock at this point. His game tape as it gets reviewed deeper and deeper speaks for itself. He doesn't need more game tape out there.
