McDunkinRautins Out Of World Championships
Knicks rookie guard Andy Rautins isn’t expected to play for Canada during the remainder of the World Championships in Turkey.
A knee injury that was aggravated Sunday in a loss to Lithuania kept Rautins out of Tuesday’s game with France.
Team Canada head coach and Andy’s father, Leo Rautins, said his son was probably done for the tournament.
“The pain is too restrictive and he’s got a high threshold,” the older Rautins said. “He has played through a lot of (crap).”

OhCanada-ParticipantHe is not my hero…not even close. I still dont understand how they can justifty not putting more young Canadian players on this mens team. Alot of people said that it is because the Freshman, (Cory Joseph, Dwight Powell, Tristan Thompson, etc) were busy with other priorities and preparing for College/University. What about Arop, Devoe Joseph, Juniour Codougan, and many other very talented young Canadian players. It is not like bringing in the more experienced players resulted in any more wins for the National team, might as well develop the talent you do have, weve seen it work wonders for Olynyk and Rautins. They are just selling the whole country lies, they made it sound like they were prepared for this tournement but they didnt prepare well AT ALL. What a disaster!
This will hopefully be Leo Rautins last tournement as Head Coach, or the petition begins!

tigers04ParticipantThe cream of the crop for canada are mostly younger players and not putting them on the team together may have resulted on loses this year as well as the next tournament bc they didn’t build any chemestry together..but canada is on the rise IMO

NashyMingParticipantI hope Leo will be cut after this FIBA tournament. He should have been fired a long time ago.
He is a bad coach and a bad broadcaster. He shouldn’t even be hired in the first place.
The worst part is that he’s in charged of a team that his son is one of the better players (that says a lot about how bad Team Canada is).
I recalled reading about players not being added to Team Canada because they didn’t have good relationship with Andy Rautins. Regardless of rather these news are real or fake, Leo should not be the coach and should not be the one making decisions, he certainly has conflicts of interest here.
Related notes:
– Nash decided to retire after Triano was let go and Leo Rautins took over. Obviously, Nash was getting older and didn’t want to risk his health on meaningless games, but Triano’s exit definitely sealed the deal for Nash.
– Dalembert was sent off after playing for Canada only once and he said he would never play for Canada again if Leo Rautins is still the coach. Leo Rautins went publicly to say Dalembert was creating chemistry issues. I don’t buy this craps at all.Team Canada needs to change from top to bottom. Axing Rautins would be the first thing to do. Bring in a real coach that coaches in the Euroleague (better suited for international competition) would be a good first step. They should replace all the old scrubs with up-and-comers like Kris Joseph, Cory Joseph, Tristan Thompson, Myck Kabongo, etc, would be the next step.

fx379ParticipantTeam canada is, right now, at a poor level, but watch out with the upcoming rosters… In fact when you look at those big canadian name going south and doing well, future is very very bright for Canada.
Here is a possible future starting five:
Kris Joseph
Tristan Thompson
Khem Birch
Myk Kabongo
Corey Joseph
Sorry but those guys are NBA prospect…
And adding players like: Kelly Olynk, Mangisto Arop, the Bhullar brother (7”3 and 7”2), Grandy Glaze and some of the other good talent will make team canada a very good team!
Acording to me, even with a bad coach like Leo, those guys can win international games for Canada…!
But I agree with you boy, if bball canada fire Leo we’re on the good way!!
In conclusion, if we forget about politics and let those young legs play ball, I’m sure that Basket-Ball Canada are in the right direction to maybe one day being a top 10 team…0 - Posted on: Wed, 09/01/2010 - 3:24pm #392133
