Number 7 for Klay Thompson?
Notice it was an article posted in the LA times. Who knows what they're drinking over there in Laker land. The only way minnesota deals with golden state is if Klay is coming to MPLS. And like you said, if David Lee, the 7th pick and someone else are your return, Boston can offer not only a better pick but more picks on top of it as well as younger and cap friendlier players.
If the Lakers could somehow net Klay Thompson for the #7 pick they should jump at the chance. Proven talent vs. potential talent would be huge for Kobe. The fact that Kobe and Klay play the same position in theory isn't a huge factor. Remember in the 2013 playoffs, Thompson played the 3 with Barnes at the 4 for most of the games. Klay is a proven scorer and would be a great 3rd or 4th option for the Lakers future.
This isn't happening except in the Lakers' front office dreams. Where would Klay go in this draft? Long before pick 7, and even with a payday coming, you know you've got that position locked up with a young shooter who plays solid D. That's worth way more than Randle or whoever they take with the 7th pick.
LA times have reported that discussions have taken place between Minnesota, GSW and the Lakers to land GSW K Love. I am not including the link because I am on my phone and the spam filter is a pain to deal with right now but a quick Google search will turn it up.
Essentially the Wolves don't want Thompson because he is about to be paid a lot of money, so GSW and The Lakers have talked about a swap for number 7 and Klay Thompson in which GSW will then send number 7 to the Wolves.
This doesn't make a lot of sense to me for a number of reasons. One being, why wouldn't the Wolves just deal with the Lakers directly? Are they that enamored with David Lee?? I considered him included in the original talks just because they needed to make salaries work.... Not because the Wolves actually wanted him Lol.
From the Lakers standpoint... Why get rid of the pick to pickup a guy who plays the same position as the only player on your roster worth a damn... And who is also owed close to 50 mil the next two seasons? On top of that you will have to pay Klay big money for one season while also paying Kobe. Doesn't make sense. They would also be helping a division rival pick up a franchise player who they have had their eyes on for years.
To top it all off from the Wolves standpoint. Why take Lee and the number 7 when you can get the number 6 and 17... Other firsts and any pick of players not named Rajon Rondo from Celtics if that's the route they want to go? Lee doesn't get them to the playoffs so might as well take the better draft picks am I right?
Not getting it from any angle involved. besides GSW.
