akhan786ParticipantWho is your favorite to win the National Player of the Year?
Though I bleed Duke blue, my choice and probably the most likely winner of the award is Kemba Walker.
Though he didn’t win the Big East player of the year (I don’t really know why) after his performance in the Big East tournament I think it’s a done deal.
If everyone remembers Uconn wasn’t even in the top 25 at the beginning of the year. He single handedly took his team from a bottom feeder in the Big East to a National Contender.
I personally believe that the NPOY should always come from a National Contender and though Jimmer is absolutely sensational and, in my opinion, the most talented offensive player in the nation, HE PLAYS NO DEFENSE.
I love the kid, and though he might HAVE to take rests on defense cause he carries his team, I don’t think a team that could get knocked out in the 2nd round should have the National Player of the Year on it.
I want to see the best player in the nation to at least have a run at the Final Four, and sadly Jimmer does not have the team to carry him there.
My rankings for NPOY are as follows:
1. Kemba Walker
2. Nolan Smith
3. Jared Sullinger
4. Jimmer Fredette
5. Derrick Williams/Ben Hansborough
You can see that the top 3 all come from National Contenders and another deciding factor for me picking Kemba out of those three is that Uconn would be NIT bound without him.
He absolutely carries his team and if you take Nolan or Sully away from the other teams, I still think their teams could still make the tournament.

jeff416ParticipantIt’s really only a two man race between Fredette and Walker. I would give the very slight advantage to Jimmer, but UConn’s Big East tournament run will help Walker a lot.

SubZeroParticipantAlthough Jimmer tore it up all year and scored 52 against New Mexico (who they had lost to twice), what Kemba did in the Big East tourney was amazing. I thought Jimmer was the unanimous choice but now I’m not sure. Both deserve it

fai714ParticipantBut I think Kemba’s performance in the Big East put him over Jimmer. Jimmer has been extremely fun to watch but Kemba did it in the Big East and has made more game winning shots…
