HandDownManDown13ParticipantWhy does this guy have not draft buzz? he’s got great range on his jumpshot. He’s also got a very good midrange game, something that not alot of prospects posess. He’s got good size for a pg, or below average size for a sg, which ever he translates too at the next level. he’s a good defender and he’s got a huge wingspan that makes up for a lack of height. He’s also very good at getting to the rim and finishing through or around contact. Why the lack of buzz?

QUINCEYcuz hes about 6’2 and hasnt shown he can play the pg yet
0 - Posted on: Sun, 03/14/2010 - 8:48am #265917
QUINCEYhe will have a chance to go late first next year though..maybe higher since he will be running the team

kanyedabestParticipantIn all due respect if Demarcus Nelson goes undrafted then NS dont gotta chance. Nelson was Dukes leading scorer and the best defensive player in the ACC as well. I love duke and NS but unfortunately i dont see him being picked
0 - Posted on: Sun, 03/14/2010 - 10:54am #265977
QUINCEYtheres a difference there… demarcus was strickly a sg. nolan has the ability to play some point. also demarcus did play in the nba. you dont have to be the best defender or scorer in the acc to get drafted over a guy who was

Mr.Knick 32ParticipantNolan Smith will be the 2 man because I don’t think Kyrie Irving is sitting down.
0 - Posted on: Sun, 03/14/2010 - 11:11am #265986
Mr.Knick 32ParticipantIt’s going to be weird for Duke.
We might see Thornton getting the redshirt
0 - Posted on: Sun, 03/14/2010 - 11:11am #265987
kanyedabestParticipantNah man Demarcus played PG for GSTATE last yr……what im saying is Demarcus was better then NS
0 - Posted on: Sun, 03/14/2010 - 11:11am #265988
QUINCEYafter watching kyle its possible he will or wont start. word is seth will start for sure and nolan will start…and dont forget dawkins is still there and will be even better then he was last year
0 - Posted on: Sun, 03/14/2010 - 11:13am #265989
QUINCEYyeah but that doesnt matter when players are drafted in different drafts…one may be better but not get drafted but someone else isnt and gets drafted the next year. you also are judging nolan by what hes done now…he still has one more year left
0 - Posted on: Sun, 03/14/2010 - 11:15am #265990
Mr.Knick 32ParticipantTrue. Duke might even run a 3 guard offense if Singler leaves.

JNixonParticipantNolan Smith is going to have to have a season similar to the one Scheyer is having this year to be a draft pick. He’s much more athletic than Scheyer, so he could be a high 2nd round prospect if he had that good a season and develop into a decent, defensive-minded backup PG in the NBA..

QUINCEYi dont think josh is gonna start. i watched him in vegas and hes a face up jump shooting big man. i think the brothers are gonna start. the rest of the line up is possible
0 - Posted on: Sun, 03/14/2010 - 11:37am #266004
JNixonParticipantKyrie Irving is better than Dawkins, and will start over him.
Dawkins is a jump shooter who doesn’t impact the game in other ways very often.
0 - Posted on: Sun, 03/14/2010 - 11:38am #266001
Mr.Knick 32ParticipantQuincey could this be the lineup?
Nolan Smith
Seth Curry
Andre Dawkins
Josh Hairston
Mason PlumleeKyrie Irving
Tyler Thornton
Miles Plumlee
Ryan Kelly
Carick Felix (Maybe?)0 - Posted on: Sun, 03/14/2010 - 11:43am #266006
QUINCEYi cant say since kyle is doing work on a hs level and dawkins isnt bad on a college level. cant say a highschooler is a definate starter when they are playing against guys ther are much better or bigger and older than unless theres no real comp at there position. many thought dexter strickland would start and he didnt while playing behind worst players then nolan, dawkins, and seth. and no one seems to be taking in account that the smith dawkins seth that you see now wont be the one you see next year with a extra year of college under there belt
0 - Posted on: Sun, 03/14/2010 - 11:45am #266008
QUINCEYand dont forget dawkins is best suited to playing a sf then any of the other guys. the other guys are either pg or sg
0 - Posted on: Sun, 03/14/2010 - 11:52am #266011
JNixonParticipantThe difference with Strickland is that he was playing a position he has never played. Larry Drew is a natural PG and Strickland played SG in HS..Strickland is still the better pure scorer of the 2 IMO
Kyrie Irving can play off the ball or on the ball. Seth Curry can play the 3 in college easily. Smith can also play on or off the ball. Dawkins can only play off the ball and shoot jump shots. He’s the least valuable player of all 4 of these guys. He’s not the scorer Curry, Smith, or Irving are and he’s not the passer they are either. He’s also a worse defender than Smith and Irving, I don’t know about Curry’s D. He’s only the better shooter of the group while making little impact doing anything else.

QUINCEYseth curry wont be checking acc sf. not sure why you think dawkins isnt the scorer klye is when he put up better numbers in hs then kyle…and thats pretty much how we can compare them scoring wise since kyle hasnt played a college game. look at mason..all american more talented then lance thomas yet lance starts. more experienced as well as knowing the system and a pretty good defender. coach k makes a guy earn there spot and hes said if a freshman starts that means he has to play way bbetter then whos in front of him because if its even or the freshman only plays slightly better then the vet will get the nod because he has gone through the rigors of the college season and knows what it takes. this is why i comment on people who think its a sure bet that freshman will start on a good team just because of what they did in hs. especially guards because the guards they will be competeing against are very good
0 - Posted on: Sun, 03/14/2010 - 12:02pm #266013
QUINCEYto be honest i cant see how you can see maybe 4 games of irving a think hes better at some of the things when hes played against guys smaller weaker not as good and younger then him. the only thing a person can say is maybe since its not liek hes physical imposing like a favors or couins and hes not the best in his class like a wall or bradley
0 - Posted on: Sun, 03/14/2010 - 12:10pm #266017
JNixonParticipantKeiton Page averaged more ppg than alot of people in HS, about 45 ppg, sooooo that has nothing to do with the type of scorer you’ll be in college. Page can score in college, but he averaged more ppg than John Wall did in HS. We all know who the better scorer is though. I could name a bunch of players that averaged like 40 ppg in HS and aren’t real high level scorers in college. That’s not a good indicator of the type of scorer you can be in college at all.
And you can see the type of scorer Irving will be right off the bat, he’s got a better off the dribble game right now than Dawkins and he’s quicker and more athletic. He’s not the spot-up shooter Dawkins is, but he’s much more explosive and dynamic as a scorer. Plus he offers more versatility in the positions he plays.

QUINCEYmakes zero sense to think its a done deal that hes gonna start. especially at duke where good vets get the nod over more potentially talented players. youre opinion is he will start but dont make it seem liek its a fact liek its johnwall going out there…kyrie isnt even the best pg in his class
0 - Posted on: Sun, 03/14/2010 - 12:18pm #266021
JNixonParticipantI think he should start. I have no idea if it’s a done deal. I don’t know anything about how they will practice or anything so no I don’t think it’s a done deal….
0 - Posted on: Sun, 03/14/2010 - 12:19pm #266022
QUINCEYand im not sure if you know who seth curry is but he isnt a sf nor can he check a sf. the guys is 6’3 maybe, not physical and skinny. when duke is undersized at that position they play stronger more athletic guys and dawkins is the clear favorite for that position by far. thats not even close. kyrie has to deal with trying to start over nolan smith or seth
0 - Posted on: Sun, 03/14/2010 - 12:20pm #266025
JNixonParticipantSo Dawkins could be a SF and not Curry?
0 - Posted on: Sun, 03/14/2010 - 12:24pm #266028
QUINCEYumm yeah..being 10pounds bigger( prob more now cuz that was back in hs) more athletic and taller so ummm yeah. plsu the fact he has played some sf for them already and hes pretty strong. if you have seen seth then you know pg and sg are the only positions he can play
0 - Posted on: Sun, 03/14/2010 - 12:39pm #266033
JNixonParticipantDamn I thought Curry was taller than 6’1″ haha….Yea, Dawkins does have better size. I still think Irving is the starter next year though.
0 - Posted on: Sun, 03/14/2010 - 12:40pm #266034
QUINCEYlol..yeah hes listed at 6’3 but his brother said hes shorter then him
0 - Posted on: Sun, 03/14/2010 - 12:43pm #266037
Im Your FatherParticipantIs very athletic. He is quick and has good hops. Unfortunately he is a HORRENDOUS ball handler.
0 - Posted on: Sun, 03/14/2010 - 12:47pm #266041
JNixonParticipantHe’s not very athletic..He’s a decent college athlete though. He’s not really that quick either..
Athletically, he’s comparable to Salim Stoudemire. He can dunk and he’s got a little bit of wiggle and quickness, but nothing very special..
0 - Posted on: Sun, 03/14/2010 - 12:48pm #266042
QUINCEYhes more athletic then the other guards on that team (dawkins)
0 - Posted on: Sun, 03/14/2010 - 12:51pm #266044
Im Your FatherParticipantExcept for that he is 6’4-6’5 unlike Stoudemire, and he is definitely an above average college athlete. For Comparison’s sake I would say that he is a better athlete than Wayne Ellington, although I think he will actually end up being a very similar player.
0 - Posted on: Sun, 03/14/2010 - 12:52pm #266047
Im Your FatherParticipantIs a good athlete too. Mason Plumlee is also a very good athlete, although he isn’t a guard.
0 - Posted on: Sun, 03/14/2010 - 12:54pm #266049
JNixonParticipantHe’s only more athletic than Curry in that backcourt. Smith is a much better athlete and Irving is better as well.
He’s like right on par with Ellington in terms of his skill set and athleticism. I like that comparison
0 - Posted on: Sun, 03/14/2010 - 12:56pm #266053
QUINCEYkyrie isnt a better athlete then dawkins…not as far as jumping ability. ive watched every game hes had on tv and hes not as explosive.. not sure what makes you think that
0 - Posted on: Sun, 03/14/2010 - 12:59pm #266057
Im Your FatherParticipantThe more I think about it the more I like that comparison too. Still I’d say that Smith and Dawkins are similar athletes, Smith is just a much better ballhandler and thus better able to use his athleticism.

JNixonParticipantDawkins isn’t that great a leaper either though.
0 - Posted on: Sun, 03/14/2010 - 1:01pm #266060
QUINCEYyou are right smith is a better ball handler. hes a better player as well but i expect that since dawkins is only a freshman who should be a sr in hs
0 - Posted on: Sun, 03/14/2010 - 1:03pm #266062
QUINCEYBig time athlete. Loves to play above the rim and can sky. Leaping ability is a big time asset. Can stroke it deep and with confidence. Has room to develop his mid-range game and tighten up handle. Lock high-major prospect and a national caliber recruit.
