No Choice But To Hate The Heat
Phil Taylor is officially making a Beat The Heat campaign and it's my honor to be the first to join the bandwagon... Great article... Everything he said is what I had in mind...
Like much of America, I suddenly find myself hating the Miami Heat. It's not so much that I want to hate them, it's more that I have no choice. I hate the Heat because of what I love.
I love gifted players who want to chase greatness, and so I hate the Heat. I hate the way LeBron James has chosen to be Gilligan instead of the Professor. At 25, James is far too young to back away from the challenge of trying to lead a team to a title, which is what he has done by teaming up with with Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh. I thought he wanted to test the limits of his ability. I hate that I was wrong about him.
I love teams that walk it before they talk it, and so I hate the Heat. I hate that preening, cocky, over-the-top welcoming celebration they had in Miami. Hulk Hogan, "Macho Man" Randy Savage and "Stone Cold" Steve Austin would have arrived with less fanfare. The Heat's trio and their fans seem to be under the impression that they have already won something. I hope every one of their opponents watches a replay of that extravaganza on the locker room flatscreen just before they take the floor against the Heat, for a little extra motivation. I hate teams that congratulate themselves before they've earned it.
I love the concept of true sacrifice, and so I hate the Heat. I hate that the Three My-Egos are being painted as a bunch of Mother Teresas who have taken a vow of poverty when all they've done is forego a small percentage of what are still obscenely huge salaries. I hate that we have become so accustomed to the overwhelming greed of superstar athletes that when the Heat's threesome accepts roughly $110 million each when they could have had closer to $120 million, some people want to fit them for angels' wings.
I love a competitively balanced league in which the biggest stars have the fiercest rivalries, and so I hate the Heat. I hate that this may be the beginning of franchise players making a mad dash to team up and consolidate most of the best players on just a few teams. Already Chris Paul and Carmelo Anthony reportedly have visions of joining Amar'e Stoudemire in New York to form another three-headed monster. If the NBA turns into a top-heavy league, I'll hate the Heat even more for starting the process.
I love fans who have an emotional attachment to one team and stay faithful to that team, win or lose, and so I hate the Heat. They have given front-runner fans a new bandwagon to jump on. People who couldn't have named a single one of Wade's teammates weeks ago will now declare themselves to be Heat lovers, decking themselves out in Miami gear with cutesy phrases like Miami Thrice and the Three Basketeers. All those fans who like the Yankees just because they win, or were devoted to the Bulls until Michael Jordan left, are now going to come out of the woodwork and swear their undying love to the Heat. I hate that.
The strange thing is that I've always liked Bosh, James and Wade individually. But I hate the way they formed this group, which means there's going to be a lot to hate about this NBA season. Unless, of course, the Heat fail to win the title that they seem to think is a formality. That, I would love.
preach to us sir!!
Good luck with that campaign. It's not an easy task and I don't see them losing much.
The Heat has always been my second favorite team after Orlando but...It feels wierd to say it but if the Magic don't win the championship I would rather see Oklahoma, Dallas, Utah or Chicago win it before the Heat.
I don't "hate" the Heat but I don't think I'll be rooting for them as much anymore...
LETS GO HEAT!!!!!
Thats the spirit.
I agree completely.
I loved the rivalry created by the media of the 03 Draft Class, but because of the Bermuda Triangle I hope 'Melo teams up with Amare & someone else (CP3?) & beats them!
I hope Superstars don't start joining each other, especially players capable of being a number one option such as Wade, 'Melo, James, Durant, Kobe, etc. I understand a player like Boozer, Bosh, Gasol joining a True Number One option because they simply won't ever lead a team individually to a Title, but for a "Franchise" Player to join a "Franchise" Player, quite ridiculous..
Hopefulyl no one else takes the "If I can't beat them, join them route"
Believe in the HEAT or pick up a DEFEAT. These players didn't CHEAT. Together they wanna COMPETE. Now, are are going to stop the Laker 3 PEAT? They still need to COMPETE.
I dont know about this but I have a funny feeling. Whenever Dwyane Wade and Lebron James are on the same court they turn it on. I mean in the all star game those two were dominating. When they played against each other this past season the atmosphere was different lol. If they play every game like how they played recently when they are on the same court. Dwyane Wade was right when he said I feel sorry for the guys guarding us on the wing.
I stopped reading after the Gilligan's Island metaphor
Obviously Lebron is Ginger, Bosh is Gilligan, Pat Riley's the Skipper, Mike Miller's Mary Ann (Same Hair) and Wade is Professor
Get It Right
P.S. they're all millionaires
U shouldve read the rest then, cuz it was a pretty solid article.
but wade lbj bosh r ganna fukjkkkkkkk shit up
except in the playoffs wen nyk ganna knock em out 1st round
Yeah don't root for the Heat but its ok when everyone was on the Laker badwagon.
How many arenas do you see the Lakers jerseys don't tell me there real Lakers fans.
I'm not a fan of either team but would def. root for the Heat had enough of Phil Jackson winning mostly thanks to having the best players. He whined about how the Spurs didn't really win the title in 1999 becaz it wasn't a normal 82 game regular yr, even though they barely lost in the enitre playoffs. He left Chicago when they split up the team how convenient and did the same after the Lakers lost in 2004 to the Pistons He couldn't make it past the 1st round for 2 yrs w/out Gasol even when he had the best player in the game hands down in his prime.
The guy writing the article doesn't realize they would've signed for 95 million or so they got the 110 million becaz it was part of a sign n trade. If the Raptors and Cavs said no to a trade than they still would've came to Miami. Also what about this scenario what if Lebron went to the Knicks and next year Carmello decided to sign in Miami. He was also part of that Olympic team and probly is friends with Wade and Bosh. Its not like he's winning anything in Denver.
Players taking smaller roles as superstars to win titles, SMH...where has the passion gone?
if your gonna hate the heat you gotta hate the lakers they bring in top players year after year
The NBA NEEDED a team that everyone can Hate. Makes for a more entertaining league.
Come to Georgia and you will really hate the heat
if you don't like lebron cuz he took a better job in a better location FUCC YOU true he should have notified the organization 1st he was wrong for not doing so..if u don't like lebron for having "the decision" FUCC YOU shoulda turned the channel..if u say lebron's not a competitor cuz he joined wade & bosh FUCC YOU look how stacced the lakers are..if you hate lebron for something not basketball related FUCC YOU..we love lebron in compton you hate'n muthafuccaz need to leave that man alone
Good post, one particular bit of irony i found tho, "I love gifted players who want to chase greatness", your user name is Marcus Fizer? That guy had talent but didn't exactly chase greatness
Cant wait to see everybody hop on that Bandwagon. They are going to be fun to watch and dunking on everybody. The only way to completely shut down Lebron is to keep a triangle of defenders behind him at all times like Boston did. If you do that Wade is going to eat you alive......and that Bosh guy ain't bad either.
Hate all you want, that team is big, fast, explosive, and hungry. I think we win it this year. I wont even hate on all the fake, random Heat fans come all star break.
Pat Riley, you have surpassed Kanye as the Genius of our times. You arent even a gay fish.
I hate this team more than words can describe, but more than hating the team, I hate LeBron for making it. Wade and Bosh were no better than any of the other numerous one-two punches in the league until LeBron came along. To put some perspective on how much I hate the Heat for what they have done to the League allow me to explain my background; I love the Celtics, I thought the notion of veteran players coming together and sacrificing their game was brilliant. They did it at the end of their careers after trying valiantly to get the rings they deserved but the Boston Three Party had to form to allow the other teams to begin their rebuilding process. However, there wasn't the sense of entitlement these Heat players have displayed, that arrogance which before I only saw in the Lakers. The Lakers who I despised for coasting through the regular season of late and fooling the League, almost mocking it with a feigned display of weakness before turning it on come the playoffs. Even I, a staunch Celtics supporter will be whole-heartedly barracking for these same Lakers, because (and I never thought I'd say this) Kobe is the only man strong-willed and competitive enough to look at that team and just say "bring it on", and the only chance I have of keeping LeBron without a win, at least until the Thunder are ready to ascend in the West.
So to sum up haha, great article, Beat the Heat is my favourite three words for next season (barring Celtics beat Heat). God I hope LeBron fails miserably, I really do.
i can relate them 2 my dukies. i never understood before why people hate duke and i still dont now.
