NJ NETS OFF SEASON PLAN
There are so many variables to what the Nets might do in the up coming weeks and the for the second season in a row the roster could potentially flipped upsidedown. Do they have interest in Boozer's desire to play in NJ? Will they finally cut ties with Vince Carter? Who will they draft? Like alot of teams all of this decisions rely heavily on the summer of 2010 and how they want to approach it. Im going to try and break it all down and want some opinions.
If the Nets want to be players in 2010 they will have to part with Carters big contract. The problem is there are only a few teams with the combination of interest and expiring contract for the 2010 seaon or earlier that would match Vince's cap numbers. One team to watch for would be the Dallas Mavs who possibly could swap Carter and some garbage for Josh Howard and Jerry Stackhouse. Cuban has always been a dealer and the thought of reuniting Carter, Kidd and Kidd's new sidekick Dirk might be enough for him to pull the trigger. The Nets would get a fringe all-star when healthy with Howard and the finacial flexability to do what they wanted in 2010. Other then the Mavs trading Carter would almost certainly have to involve a multi-team deal.
Carlos Boozer has officially put NJ on his wish list of destinations he would possibly like to land as a free agent this year. Unfortunately, due to the cap situation the only way to pay Boozer the money he will be searching for is through a sign and trade, giving the Nets the ability to stretch the cash an extra year. The delema with this situation is snatch Boozer this year or the hope you can land a free agent big man in 2010 ala Chris Bosh or Amare.
2009 NBA DRAFT, Rod Thorn said his main goal of this offseason is he wanted to find himself a moose. At #11 he may be able to find himself the garbage man he is looking for, two names to keep in mind are Dejuan Blair and Tyler Hansbrough. This will all be influenced by the teams interest in Boozer, if they seriously plan on signing him it may alter their draft strategy. There is also a need at the 3, so the team may look at a player like Earl Clark. Also, if someone like DeMar DeRozen were to slip to them they may decide to snatch him up as a replacement for Vince.
Summer of 2010 Potential Targets do to need : LeBron James(26), Dwanye Wade(28), Chris Bosh(26), Amare Stoudemire(28), Joe Johnson (29) Restricted FA Brandon Roy (26), LaMarcus Aldridge (25), Rudy Gay(24)
My take on what the Nets should do: Vince has been a great player for the Nets and a great teamate, but he needs to be traded. His cap numbers are astronomical and the Nets are not positioned to compete for a championship with him at the helm. A trade would benefit both sides by giving the Nets cap relief and giving Carter a shot to win a title with a contender. Boozer should only be signed if his knees check out 100% and the Nets feel his signing would help influence his Olympic Teamates Lebron or Wade to seriously consider NJ in 2010. Otherwise wait till 2010 and try court either Bosh or Amare. If the Nets plan to sign Boozer they should select Earl Clark as a developmental wing player, if Boozer is not in their plans Dejuan Blair should beth selection pending the outlook on his knees. In 2010 the Nets will make a strong push for LeBron James, but I honestly believe there are only two options for him. He will either re-sign with Cleveland or land in MSG if they can pair him with another superstar. Dwayne Wade is most likely to resign with the HEAT imo. Chris Bosh and Amare are the wild cards for the Nets, NY will also be pushing for one or the other to pursuade Lebron to dawn the blue and orange. Bosh is a better option for the max term deal both will be looking for, he is two years younger and does not have the injury history of Amare or Boozer. Also, in the Nets favor, is the fact that Bosh prefers the 4 and with the Knicks he almost certainly would be a C. With NJ could play his natural position and not take the punisment of banging down low with the big boys. If all the big names get swallowed up look for the Nets to dig into the RFA's particularly Brandon Roy and LaMarcus Aldridge. Portland may have trouble re-signing both so signing an offer sheet may spring one or the other.

NJ NETS OFF SEASON PLAN
And while improving the HEAT kind of sounds like building a juggernaut, it’s important to remember that the rest of the NBA didn’t stay stagnant in the offseason. The Los Angeles Lakers have Steve Nash and Dwight Howard, the Brooklyn Nets have Joe Johnson, and young teams like the Oklahoma City have another year of experience under their belts.
Heading into camp, Boston has 19 players under contract. Milicic would be the 14th guaranteed salary, which doesn’t bode well for invites Kris Joseph, Dionte Christmas, Jamar Smith, Robert Kurz and Micah Downs.
