Tongue-Out-Like-23ParticipantNick Calathes did an exceptional job as the starter while Mike Conley Jr. was out with injury.
He has averaged 14.7 PPG, 4.9 APG, 4.7 RPG, 51.8% FG and 40.9% 3PT in the last 8 games.
With the additions of Mike Miller, Nick Calathes, and Courtney Lee to solidify their outside shooting, exactly how far can the Memphis Grizzlies go in the playoffs? How good will this team be if/when Quincy Pondexter and Tony Allen come back?
Taking a trip down memory lane, the Memphis Grizzlies have beaten the Spurs, Clippers and the Thunder in 7-game series within the last 3 post-seasons. At the rate in which they are headed, they would play any of those three teams or the Houston Rockets, with whom they’ve split the season series, in the first round of the playoffs.

TRC1991ParticipantDon’t forget the impact James Johnson has been able to make!

Tongue-Out-Like-23ParticipantYes, he’s been fantastic as well!
Not ot mention, their bigs, Leuer, Koufos, and Davis, all of whom have played exceptionally well when they are asked to start or their number is called.
This may be the deepest and most balanced Grizzly team in the last 3-4 years, which is just scary considering how good they were already.

Jester87ParticipantMike Conley also having a terrific season, he did a great job keeping them alive while Gasol was out when everybody was saying they should tank. Zach Randolph has clearly started his decline though. They hae a legit shot to make the playoffs and be a very tough team to beat in the first round, but the west is really loaded this year, so I wouldn’t be surprised if they end up with something like 43 wins and still not make the playoffs.

RUDEBOY_ParticipantAs a Memphis season ticket holder,im praying that idiotic rumor of including Tony Allen in a deal to the T Wolves for injured riddled Chase Budinger and Jose Barea a 6 foot shooting guard, is just a rumor….Since Allen arrived in Memphis, he has given them an identity & attitude, before he came Memphis was one of the worst defensive teams in the nba…..
Im all for trading Tayshaun,he’s struggled since coming to Memphis..They are said to be looking for a sf that can score,i hope they can obtain someone without giving up Allen or their 1st round pick this year…Teams might be more interested in Ed Davis,i believe he could average 14/7 if he was a starter somewhere else…
Conley & Gasol returned last night and played well,Allen is expected back this week…With a much improved shooting and depth, this team might be the most feared team in the west come playoff time..Becuz they’ve shown they can compete and win against every team in the west…..
Just a few weeks ago fans in Memphis werent happy with Calathes..But the good thing about having vets on a team, they can help encourage young players and give them pointers…And Calathes is finally getting comfortable with the speed of the game and their system..Now he’s playing with more confidence..Up until a few weeks ago,he wasnt hitting shots, had trouble staying in front of people and wasnt doing a good job of running the offense, becuz he would spend so much time overdribbling…

European BasketballerParticipantNick Calathes was Vassilis Spanoulis’ backup on both Panathinaikos and the Greek national team. And this forum heavily criticised me when I said Spanoulis could be a starter in the NBA.
Once again…I was right.
