NO EZ BUCKETSParticipantevery year there seems to be one or two. last year it was memphis from the west and phily from the east. The year before that it was OKC from the west and charlotte from the east.(you could consider them a break-out team in 2010, even though they sucked in 2011)
I think this seasons(if there is a season) breakout teams will be the clippers from the west and The knicks from the east(last year was kind of their break-out season, but I think they’ll be really good after a full year of having melo and amare)
who do you guys think will be the break out team(s) in the 2011-2012 season?

B-ball fanParticipantIf the Warriors get a defensive minded center and trade Ellis (or not), then I could see them making the playoffs. They could be an explosive offensive team, and Curry is a star in the making. If Mark Jackson can make them play defense, they could be the top of all the fringe playoff teams in the West, considering that many past playoff contenders in the west seem to be rebuilding or about to (Hou, Pho, Den, Uth, maybe NO).

WizardofOzParticipantI think the Wizards have a chance to breakout next season (no bias).
They have a very young roster, filled with rookies and second-year players. They have a franchise PG in John Wall, who is making strides on his jumper. Nick Young is one of the purest shooters in the NBA and can score in bunches. Jordan Crawford plays with a swagger and is also a very good scorer and playmaker. Vesely is long and athletic, and will be great in transition with John Wall. JaVale McGee is a great shot-blocker with a developing offensive game. And Booker and Seraphin are both athletic brutes.
If Andray Blatche gets in shape next season, I can see them making the playoffs because he’s very talented. And I expect all the young players to progress next season.

boxn1ParticipantI don’t see much movement on the east, the bottom of the conference is really bad(Nets,Pistons,Bobcats,Raptors) So i will make my pick out west, and I’m gonna pick the Clippers, baring injuries they have enough to compete, now they have to find a way to win.

iguapops420Participantclippers,warriors, and MAYBE the wizards if the young guys commit to winning and not making sure they get theirs so as to not be traded. Bucks coud make noise as well.

TyroberParticipantI think the Pacers will turn some heads this year. Core of Collison, Hill, George, Granger, Hibbert AND they have money to spend in free agency on a good power forward. That is going to be a very solid team

Bmore_DCParticipantreally? Wizards? i donno man…i hope so i just dont see it…whos gonna play defense? whos gonna score besides Young? i really dont see them that much better than they were this year. Veselys a project and Blatche blows a big one…
I could see the Clippers doing something…the Bucks could sneak in the playoffs. Im not saying they will make the playoffs or anything but the Kings got a lot better. oh and the Heat…haha just playin with yall!

WizardofOzParticipantI think it’s all possible.
"whos gonna play defense?"
We were a bad defensive team last year, but we drafted Chris Singleton, the best defender in the draft. We also draft Vesely, who’s a good defender and can contest perimeter shots.
"whos gonna score besides Young"
Wall’s a very good scorer from the PG position, and Crawford will likely play the Jason Terry-role for us and will score, even though it might not be very efficiently. And if Blatche gets in shape, he’s a very versatile scorer who can score inside-out. And McGee’s offense is also developing and he has some moves like a dropstep, hooks, and can sometimes beat his man off the dribble.
"Blatche blows a big one"
My mans Dray didn’t have a very good year last year, but he was rusty, out of shape, and playing injured coming off a broken foot. When he’s in shape, he’s very good.

Chilbert arenasParticipantClip Show. Blake is beyond his years physically and mentally has progressed faster then I thought he would. He is clearly the leader of that team and they won’t get to the slow start they had last year.

Bmore_DCParticipantname one year hes been in shape bro? NEVER…blatche is a waste of physical talent. dude gets the ball, looks right at the rim and drives aimlessly hoping to get fouled or lay it up when hes almost 7 feet. im sorry but ive given up on him a LOOOONG time ago. hes never shown up in shape, hes immature (his fight with McGee proved that), and he has no basketball IQ. trust me i love the wizards and hope im wrong…but im not. ive watched almost every one of his games (on tv and in person) and theres no way you can go off his stats and believe he is a starter. YES he had a career year statistically but on a horrible team. IF (a big if) he shows up in shape next season, MAYBE you have a case. but at this point im gonna say your WRONG about Blatche.
Your point about Crawford…i can dig it. Although i still think he is a project at best. same with vesely and singleton. if you think those guys are gonna come in and change the team over-night, you are sadly mistaken my fellow wiz fan…

IndianaBasketballParticipantIndiana Pacers
– If (BIG IF) the lockout ends soon, Frank Vogel will have an entire training camp to put his imprint on the team. I think he gets the best out of the young players and stresses defense. Getting the max out of Roy Hibbert will be key.
– George Hill was a great pick up in my opinion. He’s a player who’s played and played well in big games. Coach Poppovich always had him on the floor at the end of big games. He’ll give the Pacers a very good defender and a player who can create his own offense. And the good thing about him is he can play with Collison, George, Price, Rush or even Stephenson (if he earns minutes).
– Cap space. The Pacers have the cap space to acquire a very good player via free-agency or trade. They have the money to add pieces regardless of the outcome of the CBA.
– Their young players will be a year better. Collison, George, Hibbert, Hansbrough, etc. Everybody saw how they played the Bulls in the first round. I think that gave them confidence and it’ll show next season.

Knicksboy3ParticipantI have two breakout teams.
From the lotto to the playoffs
Detroit Pistons- A young core of Brandon Knight, Jonas Jerebko and Greg Monroe, fused with Richard Hamilton, Charlie Villaneuva and Ben Gordon? I think the Pistons are right there. All they need is the correct coach. My guess? Lawrence Frank can come in and lead this team to a playoff birth in 2011.
From a mid range team to a potential title contender
New York Knicks- I mean this with no bias, but the Knicks have all the pieces, other then post big man next to Amar’e, to be a really good team. The Knicks are underrated in the guard department (Both Douglas and Shumpert are good defensive players) and they have the scorers in Melo and Stoudemire. Throw in a couple more pieces in the front line, the Knicks could jump from a 7 seed, to a team as high as the 3 seed.
