    http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1255788-report-new-york-knicks-sign-prigioni-and-copeland-from-overseas

Interesting decision by the Knicks. They add backup point guard Pablo Prigioni (age 35, wtf) who averaged 6.6 ppg, 3.9 apg in 27.7 mpg while playing in Spain last year. They also add forward Chris Copeland, who, while playing at Colorado in 2005-2006 as a senior averaged 12.1 ppg, 5.1 rpg. He is 28 years old and last year played in Belgium and averaged 21.8 ppg and 5.5 rpg

Reports are that Copeland’s contract is NOT guaranteed

Strange signing indeed. Prigioni was an okay player in his prime, but signing him at 35? Strange decision….

Copeland is for me a total unknown.

I have no idea who either of these guys are, but I heard they’re both old and not very good, why would NY do this? Are they trying to compete with the C’s and Lakers as oldest teams in the league? (Even though Boston only has 3 players above 30, they’re core is old)

They already spent their big money, these are just guys to fill out the roster.

I read that the Knicks resigned J.R. Smith, so with along with Kidd, Camby, James White, and Novak the Knicks look about set with their roster, just needing to add some minimum contract guys know. They lost Josh Harrellson in the Camby sign and trade so they should probably bring in another power forward. But, even if they do, I don’t think they will add another big name.

I think the Grizzlies are in the same boat too. We are bumping up into the luxury tax area and we have 12 guys on our team counting Jeremy Pargo so we will look at some D League and summer league types for the 13th and 14th spots. Matt Janning is a guy we are bringing into the summer league as well as Josh Magette who is supposedly a good athlete. Terrance Henry, who used to play at Ole Miss, is another guy on the team but I can’t remember any of the other names.

For the free agents left, it is turning into a buyers market, so I think teams are waiting things out in order to get some solid guys at bargain prices to fill out their rosters.

I’ve seen Prigioni play earlier this season, when i went overseas to see some friends play in the Spanish league…He reminds me of Jason Kidd,he’s not the talent Kidd was in his heyday, but what i mean is he always looks to pass 1st …Maybe passing too much..Dont be surprised if he makes the team..I doubt he’ll get much playing time though..

He moves his feet well on defense, excellent passer, nice shooter, very good in pick & roll and he’s a tough competitor…He’s 1 of those players thats gotten better each year..The player he is today, wasnt the same player he was 10 years ago..He’s work and improved his game each year….

This might be a dream come true for him,to play in the NBA.Since he already announced that this might be his last year of playing basketball anywhere professionally….He wouldnt make any major impact, but he’s no slouch either….

Agree, to what RUDEBOY said about Prigioni, also, he is a good shooter. Interesting story is that he came to Spain from Argentina not as a normal point guard, but just a guy who could dribble the ball from one side to another and shoot 3’s. Since then he has improved so much, remember when his team ( I’m not sure but it looks for me that it was Pamesa ) won Kings Cup and he was named MVP scoring only 3 points, although dishing out 15, which is really really a lot in Europe.

But the main point why, though it looks like strange signing, it is a good move by Knicks is pretty simple. For 500.000 they get very experienced vet, who still can defend, has very high basketball IQ, pass exceptionally well and is a very good spot up shooter, again that’s for 500,000 and he will be only 3rd point guard.

I may be wrong but i think this will only be for training camp unless they play well and make the team.

Prigioni is going to be a third string PG. I don’t see what the huge deal is about signing a third string pg. He’s just 3-rd string, come on.

@ SuperNova854: That´s true and I think he has more in the tank than Bibby has in this point in time.

The Knicks are one of those teams that scout eurpoe heavily… I have a feeling that this is a favor to an agent who wants to get his client and NBA contract before he retires and if this creates a demand for knicks jerseys/TV rights in Argentina? well I am sure that Dolan wont mind cashing the check… Only NY sport fans would over-analyze the signing of a third string PG..
