The Pelicans are playing the best basketball they have played all season, going 7-3 in there last 10, and this is without Gordon, Holiday, and Anderson. One of the big reasons they are doing better IMO is because Tyreke Evans has been in the starting lineup for the last 11 games. In the month of March (12 games) he is averaging 21.5 pts 5.8 reb 6.4 ast 1.8 stl on 53.5% shooting and 36.4% from 3. As a Pelicans fan, the chemistry between Anthony Davis (who has been balling big time as of late) and Evans has been fun to watch. Tyreke has been playing the 2 and 1 through this stretch and has been doing it pretty well. I really feel he has the potential to become a star if he can continue to play well and keep this kind of level up. With that said, what do you think the pelicans should do with Eric Gordon. I feel that he needs to be traded ASAP (for a 3 who can defend and shoot the ball, or a center to play along AD). It is clear that the Reke coming off the bench experiment was bogus, and also he thrives when playing at the guard position, so thats why I feel that Gordon really needs to be moved. What do you guys think?

I think it’s obvious they would try to trade Gordon but what could they really get back for him? I don’t see any team giving up much to get Eric Gordon with his injury history and already being 25. They might just be better off keeping him for their 2nd unit. If they can get a solid 3 for him then yea I can see them making the trade. I wish Gordon would have been able to stay healthy he was a fun player to watch when he was with the Clippers.

Trade idea to get rid of Gordon:

    1) If Boston gets a top two pick and look to take Parker or Wiggins as their future small forward, they could do this trade.. Green, Wallace, and Faverani for Gordon, Rivers, and Ajinca (or Withey). Boston wouldn’t have to try and overpay Bradley to stay as Gordon can be the shooting guard (who can actually shoot). Trading these three guys would open up playing time for their pick, plus Olynyk and Sully. Getting an athletic center would help along these guys as well. Boston lineup for next year Rondo/Pressey, Gordon/Rivers, Wiggins or Parker, Sullinger/Bass, and Ajinca/Olynyk.

New Orleans trades bad contracts for bad contracts, but gets pieces that fit better. Lineup of Holiday/Roberts, Evans/Morrow, Green/Wallace, Davis/Anderson, Faverani/Withey. Many variable lineups with this group and can play really big or small ball.

Gordon’s contract is borderline unmovable. It’s big and a huge gamble because of his injury history. IMO the Pelicans’ best three players are Davis, Evans and Anderson. The three of those guys could never got on the same page all season. (Obviously, Anderson’s health issues are a concern past this season).

One good thing going for the Pels is that they have a bunch of smaller contracts coming off the books. Aminu, Smith, Steimesma. If they use that space to get that needed glue guy, they’ll have some playoff hopes.

Like Witness mentioned, NO has been trying to trade Gordon. I think a team will ultimately get him for cheap, a la salary dump. It’ll happen after the draft and itll be a team that can both absorb his contract and send back a sf.

Philly- if they draft a sf and pf, they can swap Young for Gordon.

Boston- like Dmo mentioned, Boston can send Faverani and either Wallace or Greene for Gordon.

Atlanta- Will have cap space and can send Korver if NO wants to add a shooter.

That’s just off my head, but after the draft teams will reach out to take Gordon off NO hands.

Philly can offer a solid deal.  And, Eric Gordon would fit in with the Sixers.  They can play him at the 2 with Wroten as a 6th man.

KHAM83, I was thinking the Sixers could trade Thad Young, Jason Richardson, and picks at 32 and 39.

If the Sixers draft Julius Randle and Cleanthony Early (if they can’t get Parker or Wiggins) then those two would fit in well with Noel, MCW, and Eric Gordon with Tony Wroten being their main guy off the bench.

The Pelicans go forward with their Davis, Holiday, Ryan Anderson, and Jru Holiday core.  Thad Young offers more depth at the power forward spot and they also hope he can play some 3.  … J Rich could help if he gets healthy.  If not, he will be a sizeable expiring contract next season.  They also get two good second round picks in a deep draft.

Salary cap relief is enough for the Pels to part ways with Gordon at this point.  Trading him for a contract that expires earlier or a team that is willing to add salary would be nice for the Pelicans.

I think the Pelicans have a bright future in the long run.  I have extremely high hopes for Davis and expect him to be a top-3 player in the league by the end of next season, if not earlier.  The Davis/Evans/Anderson trio should be deadly when given time to grow together and Jrue Holiday getting healthy can’t hurt.  If they can just get some continuity and an upgrade at SF, they should become a playoff team next season.

I could see a Thad for Gordon trade but don’t see the Sixers adding picks 32 & 39, even if NO is willing to take J-Rich. The Sixers have zero cap issues, in fact they need to add payroll for 2014/2015. Thad for Gordon works but I think NO needs to include a second rounder or two to make it work.

If I were the Pelicans I’d look into Darrell Wright, he hasnt been getting much burn from the Blazers on their blazing 2013-2014 campaign, I think he would really help them out on both ends of the floor. He can open up the lanes with his shooting and can defend his position.

The thing I like most about the Pelicans is that are not TANKING. They are 7-3 in last ten games.

I remember Scott Brooks years ago before the Thunder made the playoffs said he didn’t want to tank as it created a losing mentality/attitude. Glad NO are doing the same…..

The Pelicans will be good to watch next year, its a pity they aren’t in the East as they would actually be in the playoffs if they were to start today !!!

I have also noticed Austin Rivers is getting about 20 mins a night now.  How is Austin looking ?
