Johnny KilroyParticipantfor 7 minutes Oakland and Illinois play with women’s basketball!
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — From his first shot, Demetri McCamey knew something was wrong. The ball just didn’t feel right.
Turns out the ball was an undersized women’s ball, something the officials finally fixed after seven minutes as Illinois (No. 17 ESPN/USA Today, No. 16 AP) beat Oakland 74-63 on Wednesday night."After my first shot I thought, ‘This can’t be right," McCamey, who finished with 30 points, said about the women’s ball making it into the game. The first seven-plus minutes were played with the size 6 ball. McCamey noticed the odd ball early but couldn’t convince the officials. Illini center Mike Tisdale finally did."I’ve coached 33 years and that’s a first," Oakland coach Greg Kampe said.Play quickly restarted with a size 7 men’s ball — about an inch larger and 2 ounces heavier — but neither team’s shooting immediately improved.

joecheck88Participanti cant play with a womens ball either. there is no way it would have took 7 minutes of game time for me to convince the refs it was too small. thats the crazy part to me, 7 minutes!! lol

SwatLakeCityParticipantWhen I play with a women’s ball, I don’t even realize it. I just play regardless. And the funny thing is when someone does tell me its a women’s ball I act like I don’t care and continue playing. I guess you could say that to me it does not make a difference which ball I use.

mikeyvthedonParticipantAt least when I have used a womens ball is that I can suddenly palm it like I am Michael Jordan. Their is a definite difference in size and weight, it is noticeable. It may not change your shot exponentially, but their is quite a difference.

llperezi notice the difference immediately. I dont have to use any leg when shooting a womens ball from 3. Just all wrist and its gets there.

JNixonParticipantYeah unless you either are extremely weak or have very small hands, you should be able to tell if you’re playing with a female ball as opposed to a men’s ball. The ball is lighter and a good bit smaller.

sheltwon3ParticipantYou can tell because most of the time I get a basketball I see if I can palm it. You can tell the weight different very quickly. I need that extra weight for my shot to feel right but I can shoot 3’s better with a women’s ball because normally my range is limited if I have not shot ball for a while.
