Form Nice future right there, Spencer Dinwiddie already playing at an all star level, showing being Deron Williams/Gilbert Arenas hybrid type pg, Caris Lavert showing glimpses of Steve Smith level, and maybe also Russell will ends up somthing…

As a starter, Dinwiddie is averaging 15ppg and 7apg on 42-35-81 shooting splits, leading his team to a below .500 record

Is that all it takes to be an All-star? He’s been a good player for them, but who’s spot is he taking? Irving? Wall? Beal? DeRozan? Paul? Harden? Lillard? Westbrook? Oladipo? Butler? Walker? Thompson? Curry?

There are only so many guard spots in the all-star game. Most would probably even take Holliday, Bledsoe, Mitchell, Schroeder, Evans, McCullom, Dragic, Harris, Lowry, Murray, Jackson, Brown, Clarkson, and Dunn over him.

Is he even a top 50 guard in the NBA? Is he even a top 150 player?

I like Lavert if he can stay healthy. He reminds me of Josh Howard from the Mavs a decade ago. He might have all-star potential.

Ouch. I think you just listed half the league. This post was like driving by a car wreck on the highway…I was wincing as I was reading but I couldn’t look away…couldn’t stop reading.

I hope the OP gets out of this one alive!

You talk about a nice future in the backcourt but you forget to mention the best player and maybe the second-best guard they have? What about D’Angelo Russell or Jeremy Lin? Russell was averaging 20+ PPG before the injury and Lin’s a solid, not great, offensive guard. You choose to ignore Russell but sing the praises of Dinwiddie? Dinwiddie might be a nice 6th man, but Russell could be an All-Star 2 or 3 years down the road.

The Nets backcourt has a lot of depth with possibly 5 solid options (Russell, Lin, LeVert, Dinwiddie, Joe Harris), when the options are healthy, but they lack a surefire star right now, and may continue to do so unless Russell develops into a star.

Even if Dinwiddie is not All star level, I would throw him a long term 9/12 million dollars contract as he’s a very valuable guard. His most impressive stat is not his shooting percentage, but his 4.3 a/to ratio which has to be one of the best of the league

The assist to turnover ratio is probably a good indicator for why Dinwiddie ranks so high in ESPN’s RPM (6th among all guards and 13th overall). He’s an ideal point guard for a team with a ball dominant wing, something like a rich man’s George Hill. These anti-Dinwiddie takes are way off-base.
