Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantThe sixers have basically reached a point where they have to trade him. Its no longer a matter of "if" but "when". He has been unhappy and disconnected from the team since last season ended and is currently out of the rotation. He is a restricted free agent at the end of the season and the sixers will most likely lose him for nothing if they don’t make a deal. He clearly no longer wants to be there.
It’s kind of a shame in a way because I feel like if healthy and engaged he could make a decent frontcourt pairing with embiid. I like the fit of him and embiid playing together much better than Embiid-okafor (especially on defense) but it doesn’t seem like we’ll ever really get to see that duo on the floor together. The sixers may still look to move okafor (who clearly doesn’t fit with their roster) at some point, but I feel like noel could be a useful piece for them potentially if committed.
There will no doubt be teams interested in dealing for Noel, but the sixers aren’t necessarily dealing from a position of strength here so they might not get the return they are looking for from a guy who was at one time considered a franchise building block. However, he is still a young player with a ton of potential, even if his progress has been somewhat stagnated in Philly.
So which teams should go after Noel? And what should they give up to get him?

Tight ButtholeParticipantOne team that could use a defensive-minded rim protector would be Cleveland. After Birdman tore his ACL last week, they are now down to 3 bigs in Kevin Love, Tristan Thompson, Channing Frye. Cleveland isnt desperate for a rim protector like they were a couple years ago before dealing for Mozgov, but adding a talent like Noel might be what this teams is missing in terms of being a complete team again.
As for what they’d have to give up and what Philly would accept is most likely where it dies before it is even discussed. Cleveland has an overseas prospect in Cedi Osman that Philly could plug in at SF next year when he comes over. Then there is a combination of McCrae, Felder or even Shumpert that Cleveland might consider dealing.

holefillers1ParticipantI would trade Noel and Okafor. Saric and Ilyasova fill Okafor’s niche on the offensive side. They also play better along side Embiid. I would prefer to develop Holmes as the backup center. Give Holmes 12-15 min and see if he is worth developing.

MopgrassParticipantI wouldn’t do all that yet. I’d trade Okafor today, put Noel in 30 minutes a game, let his stock go back up, make the league think I’m happy with pairing Noel and Embiid, then trade Noel around draft time (if needed). I wonder if the Celtics would want Okafor for Jaylen Brown (since Okafor is further along in development).

GBeeParticipantHe shouldn’t be worth much more than a late first round pick IMO, but he’ll probably command more bc of misguided intrigue surrounding his defensive ability. The 6ers didn’t do themselves any favors as far as retaining trade value, but he didnt do himself any favors either by acting like an entitled child who missed everything, didn’t even work with the team in the offseason onward, yet thinks he deserves an immediate larger role.
Kid is overrated too. Hasn’t improved much since high school skill-wise, physically or in terms of understanding of the game. He sucks offensively and will likely always will. He can’t even catch a ball cleanly. Even his defense is overrated bc he’s undisciplined, plays a very gamble-heavy style and he gets bodied with his weak, thin frame. You don’t want a defensive anchor to be a low IQ, undisciplined gambler and that’s supposedly where his strength lies.
Cleveland really has nothing to offer them other than picks. I guess there’s Shump, but tbh with the way he’s playing, they need him more this year than they’d need a Noel. With their contracts lined up I doubt they’d retain him after this year at the price he wants so he’d just be a rental.
I could see TOR inquiring, maybe something involving Terrence Ross who has become a prime sell-high candidate.
Maybe POR dangling one of the players they just handed a bad contract to, like an Allen Crabbe.
DEN is a possibility with their group of SGs. That position should be Murray’s for the forseeable future, so Barton and Harris could be on the block.
I’m sure PHO has been trying to peddle Brandon Knight ever since they inked him to his deal. I guess he’s an option… but he’s Brandon Knight.
If you’re a Philly fan I’d say don’t set your sights too high on getting a game changer in return. Noel’s value is in the dumps. He’s looking injury prone, has a fragile build and to be quite frank, he’s not very good. Completely overrated coming out of college IMO.

nath09ParticipantAs much as I love him I think Andrew Bogut is reaching the point where he can’t be going through an NBA season as a relied upon starter. He needs restricted minutes and with Embiid he will get them.
I’m not sure of his contract terms and if Cuban would be the type to send him to a bottom team as I am sure if mentioned Andrew would say no thanks. But it could have mutual benefits; Noel would definitely get minutes so that would probably keep him happy. Bogut has a little connection with Brett Brown and Bogut comes across as someone who could coach beyond his playing career. He does not take a backward step so could be very vocal with Okafor on his defensive weaknesses when theu share the floor as well as being a locker room leader to this young team that includes Ben Simmons who has been reported as someone who could have a few lessons in humility. If he could impart some defensive wisdom to Okafor it could at the very least raise his trade value if he is on the 76ers roster for the remainder of the seaaason.
I’m not sure how it could be facilitated (what other pieces need to be involved) and I’m pretty sure Bogut would not see it like have described above but I do think it would be an interesting and beneficial transaction.

Hype MachineLol Bogut the coach? Man I’d love to see that.
Dude is the grumpiest and most cynical man alive and pretty much refuses any media commitments.
Hes not exactly the hardest working guy either.
All he does is troll twitter as a social justice warrior, eg calling out women for reverse sexism lol.
Theres no way hes on my list of guys who can coach. Hes got very poor interpersonal skills and seemingly enjoys the role of villian.
Plus he hates America. Hes the only guy that $hits on America more than me lol.
He will leave the country as soon as his playing career is over.

nath09ParticipantComing home is the thing I would expect him to do and every time he does he puts on clinics. He may want to coach over here aswell. BEing a villian and grumpy pretty much are essential coach qualities so I can’t see that as a negative.

r377ParticipantWell done Sixers, with the 6th overall pick you decided to go with a skinny, injury prone big with no offense who is now worthless – you will be lucky to get a second rounder or very late first for him. Passing on KCP, McCollum, Steve Adams, Giannis and Shroeder

holefillers1ParticipantYo Capt. Hindsight. Sixers got Noel and New Orleans pick that turned into Saric for an injured Jrue Holiday. You can’t just pick and choose what worked and what didn’t four years later. He was easily the highest rated player on the board.
0 - Posted on: Wed, 12/21/2016 - 5:12pm #1089833
nath09ParticipantAll those players would be welcome on that roster but the only star is Giannis and a lot of teams passed on all those players you listed. I don’t think hindsight helps when looking back at that debacle of a draft.
Let’s just say they did choose Adams; this post would probably still exist it would just have Steven Adams name at the top instead of Nerlens Noel. He wouldn’t have fixed their log jam.

HitsterParticipantIf Noel was on the market, any number of contenders would be interested in him even if it was only a virtual half season rental. Give up a 25-30 range first rounder to give you the edge in a possible play off battle is a no brainer to me.
Dallas would be a nice fit and Bogut playing around and mentoring Embiid is a good idea. Plus contract year for Bogut, Philly get him and flip him for a pick to a contender on deadline day.

holefillers1ParticipantWhy not Houston? Clint Capela is out for 6-8 weeks and D’antoni was an assistant with Sixers last year. Good rental/tryout for an up tempo team that fits Noel’s profile.

DolanCareParticipantIt’s hard to see Noel as a starter. He’s a great shot blocker, but on the weakside. He can’t defend his man under the hoop, vulnerable to post-ups, watch tape of him on Marc Gasol for reference.
On offense he has no home….His hook shot has improved but its nothing close to automatic even when a smaller player is guarding him…. His hands remain a problem, almost as bad as Festus Ezeli’s…. He’ll never have a jump shot…. All of these traits make him sound like Deandre Jordan, but he does not have the physical frame that Deandre Jordan has. DJ can finish over anyone in the league, he creates 2 points as soon as he’s free under the rim. Perhaps Noel does this once he has Chris Paul as his PG, but I highly doubt it.

binetParticipantAt this point with Embiid publicly saying he wants to play with his bff Nerlens Noel, my opinion is whatever Philly ends up doing with Noel, Okafor has to go first. In particular, because of trade value. Okafor’s value is not going up regardless, he is a bad fit and only showcasing weaknesses. He has to be traded while he is still young and has the upside and potential. Right now, like many others, I still believe he could end up decent if coached the right way but never as a sixer. Jahlil is still young and has excuses: you could think his obesity is the problem and just like Boris Diaw when traded to the Spurs make him start a diet, you could argue that as bad as he is in defensive P&R, almost anybody would be with Sergio Rodriguez and TJ McConnell in front of him, you can argue that being hated by the fan base as a young kid and losing is very bad… He still has impressive low post moves. Okafor is not yet a complete bust, he just does not fit the 76ers and will never be good there. There is a significant chance he ends up just being a terrible player, but with the right price he is worth the bet.
If I were the sixers, I would be ready to trade him for anything that would not cause the ire of the fans.
Imo any team that is clearly in rebuilding mode and without a starting center for the future, could or should try to get Jah. He probably is very cheap at this point and I would take him over any center in the upcoming 2017 draft still. I believe Dallas can try this. Something like pick swap this year, a pick with very strong protections and Wesley Matthews. You give out a huge salary that is not a primary need in rebuilding and in the wrong side of 30 and a career threatening injury, a pick protected in a way that if you give it away, Jah pretty much has to become a stud, and a pick swap that has like 20~ish % chance to matter and even if, you still would get a top 5 pick let’s be real. Sixers gets an interesting veteran wing at a price they would have to pay to sign a guy in the offseason anyway, with a very good fit with this team and a good example for your young injured guys, plus added chances at landing the number 1 pick basically.

BeastMode716Participantat the PF spot. This kid has a Terrible attitude, he is Not a good on ball defensive player & he is Terrible & always out of position in Zone concepts b/c he does Not care. And b/c he has put Zero work into improving on Offense he can’t start for Anyone at Center.
It was Still a great trade by Hinkie b/c he dumped injury prone & over rated Jru Holiday’s guarenteed deal for what ended up being Noel, Saric (who I like as a glue guy & eventual starter at the SF or PF spot) & don’t forget the Sixers had the #10 pick in the 2014 Draft & they moved back 2 spots so Orlando could move up to #10 so the MAgic could draft Elfrid Payton.
In Exchange the Sixers got their 2017 – 1st round pick back which looks like a Lock top 3 pick….. So let’s assume that pick turns out to be Fultz, Jackson or Ball…… Think Orlando would Luv to do that trade over again?
0- Posted on: Thu, 12/22/2016 - 3:01am #1089851
binetParticipantSaric ? a glue guy? I like him but he definitely is not a glue guy at all. He is improving in defense and rebound I know but it’s still far from a strength. He has a fighter mentality though so I am sure he ends up decent on that end, not yet the case though.
And tbh, he is not a SF, he is miles below NBA average when Brown puts him on the floor at that position. Sixers need to stop experimenting with 2 centers lineups and return to Saric-Ilyasova at the 4.

holefillers1ParticipantThey should get this experiment over with. I think the best lineup with Embiid is Ilyasova and Saric with Henderson. I hate these PG’s. What is this TJ McConnell bulldog B.S. first thing he does is dribble under the basket. Never a P-n-R, never a lob…NEVER A LOB! Blinders on, dribbling under the basket.
Anyway, Binet is right about Sari not being a SF but, this lineup works everytime. Which makes sense because I haven’t seen it in a week(sarcasm)
