Honestly, I love all sports.. basketball, football, baseball, everything!
Just being an athlete I love watching and talking about sports, and the guys on this site are some of the best basketball minds on the internet, so I love coming on this site.

Now I love basketball, I love playing it because I’ve played it since I was young, all my family played it, and it’s just awesome to me. There’s nothing like hitting a game winning 3 to win a tournament, or dunking the ball (even though i’ve only squeezed twice) but In my opinion its the the greatest sport in the world!

I love Basketball because of the passes, dribble moves, body control, acrobatic layups and dunks, power, plays and all the off court discussion and basketball business related stuff (trades etc)… which basically means everything. huge fan of the draft.

I also like ice hockey, american football and soccer

for me ive played bbal since i was bout 4 or 5

and i remember in forth grade i picked up a basketball in my yard, and it seems really really wierd but i said to it "ima start to like you more" or something like that

and from there, my likeness for it really grew

and when i got cut from varsity when i was a junior… to me it was a blessing in diguise cuz i took time to really evaluate myself as a player… i didnt give up as a player, i wanted to keep growing my skills

ive played against some D-1 guys in rec, and even tho they tore me to pieces lol, right then and there i  really understood how good u have to be just to play D-1! i played a guy who went to American University and he just crapped on me during 5 on 5 every single play it seemed ( i still held my own tho, i am not near trash when it comes to bball lol) and he told me he was a benchwarmer but he had awesome skills tho. i mean he was SO DAMN GOOD lol… then i knew at that moment how good the kobes and the lebrons are of the world. its almost unreal and unbelivable how good u have to be to make it in the nba lol… u guys can say i sound reall dumb but w.e. lol…. it gave me a alot better understanding of the game…. i love also how basketball is evolved around skills

u dont have to be super athletic or run a 4.5 40 yard dash to be considered good

i love the lowering of the shoulder when slashing to the hoop… the poster dunk… that underdog team… no look pass, the pull up J… things like that… to me its almost like art in a sense

Only game you can play by yourself. Thats what saved me from being swallowed up by negativity. When things got tough at home, school, or the streets, I could always go grab a ball and shoot, dribble, play against myself or time. You dont need to call someone else in basketball all you need is a rim, a ball, and yourself.

And of course there is the brotherhood, domination, creativity, and passion that drove me. I met so many people and played with and against and traveled because of Basketball. Greatest game ever.

    I dont like all sports

infact basketball is the only sport that i really like…scrach that love….i only watch other sports out of hype or if my friends are watching it

I used to not like basket ball as well but i remember back in like grade 7 or so all my friends like basketball and would talk about it constently and i felt left out lol…

so i started watching a couple of raptor games and soon started to like it but not for the game it self but i was more amazed at how good vince was and i would mostly care about how much he scored each game and the type of dunks  he did rather then how the team performed or even who won (i know that sounds silly)

but after time i started likeing the sport genuinlly and not just one player

    .

    .

one of the reasons why dont like any other sports is i think because of the scoring system as it takes so long to score as uposed to basketball which is fast paced and you score preetty quickly (maybe i have add lol) + the players just seem to be indivindually recognizable (skills, personality) while in in other sports all the players seem some what alike (if that makes any sence)

and hear i am today writing on a basketball forum while if still have an assignemnt to finish

ive played every sport. from lax to boxing to running. and NOTHING beats the game of basketball. ive played basketball since i was in 3rd grade. and stuck with it my whole life, while the other sports ive only played once or twice. and the reason i started in 3rd grade was i remember my dad harping to me about how he always played basketball. from morning until night. in the snow (he said he had to shovel first) in the rain. in anything. so i wanted to be as passionate about the game as him. he’d always beat me in a 1 on 1 when i was little. and i hated that, so i played everyday, all day. i promised myself and my dad i’d be able to beat him the following year (4th grade) that DIDNT happen. so i kept playing. i wanted to beat him bad. so as i kept playing and meeting more people and different types of competition i just fell in love with the sport. i never wanted to leave the gym. and thats why i love the game. great responses though, cause every post i read, i felt the same way.

I love the competitive nature of the game… any game really i love to compete anything that there is a winner and a looser i like to play… and it also is a way to get away, all i need is a ball and a hoop and it seems like i am in a different world and nothing matters except making the next shot

My love affair for the game started almost by accident; my older brother played basketball, and because the games were in the same stadium my mum didn’t have to drive us to different places, and the stadium was right around the corner.

I’ve been playing it ever since, and though I’m probably more suited to other sports physically, I’ve always loved basketball. The versatility of the game, the complexity of the teamwork and the never-ending quest to master a money jump-shot had me hooked.

When I got older I thought about why basketball was the best sport, and the key difference between basketball and other major sports (NFL, soccer) was that every player had to defend and attack, meaning a more versatile skill-set was required and the great players dominated on both ends of the court.

The final straw that threw me into obsession was just over a year ago when I had a long-term injury and wasn’t allowed to play; before that I had always taken the game for granted somewhat. I used to make deals that if I could just get healthy I’d really commit to the game, so now that I’m healthy (more or less) I try to ball as much as I can and play every game like it’s my last.

@Steven: I was the same way with my older brother growing up, was always pushing to be better than him and once I caught up in height I was.

I love basketball because its exciting(dunks, passes, etc). I watched every since I was a kid, and always loved the nj nets. I started playing late though at around 15, just never could find a basketball court to play on til i bought my own. Im an ok player(streaky shooter) just play for fun though, never played on an actual team due to setbacks, burnt my entire calf freshman year, developed cist in my left foot and along with minor pains from the burn on my calf sophmore year, and then junior i was completely healthy but decided to graduate early so that took all my free time away.

Its the most beautiful sport of all-time.  If you watch solid team basketball with proper ball movement, the game becomes poetic.  Watch the showtime lakers, the kings back when they had J-Will n C-Webb, the old and current celtics…teams like those make the NBA something special.

I should add that I love the idea that a talented enough player can just put a team on his back and elevate those around him to glory.

I can totally sympathize with you M-DYMES. I didn’t actually start to like basketball until I was like 10 or 11. That year the Bulls and Jazz were in the Finals. It was the one Finals that my whole family actually watched. (We are originally from Utah) We even watched it with our neighbors. We would go for the Jazz and our neighbors would go for the Bulls, so that was a fun rivalry. That year I actually started out going for the Bulls because of MJ. Then as I watched the Jazz play, they were just so beautiful to watch. The pick and roll, the way Stockton passed the ball, the classic Stockton to Malone, everything about the way the Jazz played was just perfect, flawless. I became a fan of them immediately. I still get upset about the Jazz loosing game 6 when they should have won, but to just see that they deserved it and still played probably their best game of the season was worth it.

Then when I was little and I would shooting hoops in our driveway, I would pretend that I was playing for the Jazz and Stockton was my coach. Kind of funny but it was fun. Whenever I was outside, everything else just seemed boring, basketball was the only time I actually enjoyed myself.

I used to only care about the draft around draft time and that was it but then around 2006, I remember talking on a Jazz forum and telling them not to draft JJ Reddick while everyone else was telling them to do exactly that. It was a lot of fun arguing with them and then watching the draft and finding out that the Jazz followed my advise (well sort of) The Jazz didn’t pick Reddick but instead they picked Brewer. (actually Reddick went #11 to the Magic 3 picks before the Jazz were so he wasn’t even available. But just to argue with them and try to predict who the Jazz would pick was so much fun. This year of course reminded me of 2006 a lot. You might remember that I was someone who voiced very loudly for the Jazz to not draft Jimmer. I had other guys I wanted the Jazz the look at more. (Knight, Walker, Burks, Leonard, Vesely) And once again, the Jazz took my advice and drafted Burks. (Well, sort of, Jimmer wasn’t available at 12 because he was taken two picks earlier at 10) I still think that Jimmer will have a career similar to JJ Reddick’s but we’ll see. (Just watch the next post someome will bash me about Jimmer and say he’s the next Steve Nash or whatever, Oh this is so much fun)

I still love watching the Jazz because sometimes the way they play is just beautiful to watch. I long for those days to come back. And I think the Jazz are awfully close. They just need a better PG (Josiah Turner, Tony Wroten Jr, Myck Kabongo, or Kendall Marshall, can’t wait till 2012 draft should be exciting)
