Lotto StudParticipantHow much longer does Josh Pastner have in Memphis, before the athletic director cut ties?

ChicagoCaseyParticipantMaybe this year or the next. He needs to start winning.

IlladelphParticipantChicagcasey – He has been winning. Are you for real? He has had a winning season in each of the last 6 seasons, and has won 70% of regular season games.

McDunkinMaybe when recruiting starts to fall off? It’s surprising but even with all of its struggles the Memphis program continues to get talented recruiting classes even if they don’t live up to potential.

teropParticipantRecruiting has really falling off now. Without the hiring of Coach Lawson resulting in bringing in his two top 50 sons, Memphis recruiting would be at the bottom of the American.

IlladelphParticipantPastner has done pretty well at Memphis. I think that Memphis fans were spoiled by John Calipari from 2000-2009. They never got over him leaving with John Wall, and DeMarcus Cousins.
But if you look at Pastner’s record, it compares favorably with past Memphis coaches. He’s had winning seasons all 6 years, and he has been to the NCAA tournament 4 out of the last 5 years. He’s won 70% of his regular season games for hte last 6 years.
Memphis fans have to readjust their expectations. Take out the Calipari era from 2000-2009, and Memphis has been a solid mid-major program throughout its history, nothing more. They traditionally get the local stars like Penny Hardaway, and Lo Wright, and the Lawsons. But Calipari is the only coach who ever brought in national high level talent: D-Rose, Tyreke Evans, Dajuan Wagner, Amare Stoudemire (committed by then went pro instead), Chris Douglas-Roberts, etc.
There is no way that Pastner should be on the hot seat. Compared to all other Memphis coaches except for Calipari, he’s done a pretty good job.
