We are about a week out from being able to scout incoming freshman at the collegiate level and see which upperclassmen have made the most strides over the summer. I can’t speak for everyone on these boards but its probably my favorite time of year. Heated debates, lots of feelings hurt, maybe pride and ego…tis the season.

Who you got before the first tip off?
-I like Jaren Jackson Jr to be the first pick in the draft. Crazy length and motor. He can block the moon from setting over the Sun
-The gap between Marvin Bagley and Billy Preston is not that wide
-Need a dark horse PG in a weaker class?? I got you covered, Jaylen Adams goes lotto after racking up the awards and winning the A-10
-hurry back Josh Okogie, I want to put you in the lottery too!
-Slow your roll: Colin Sexton, Wendell Carter, Lonnie Walker, Mikal Bridges

Also Luca Doncic just won player of the month. Unheard of at his age. He should be at least no2 on the mocks ATM

I’ll hold you to it. The gaps about 1.5 years wide.

Jackson wont go first, I actually see him possibly returning for his second year.. He definitely has some LaMarcus Aldridge in his game.

If Michigan St wins the title, I could see him leaving but not as the number 1.

Colin Sexton to me is a guy thats not necassarily being slept on but still not getting his due respects. Hes got some Kyrie Irving/Kemba Walker in his game. Jaren Jackson is another guy is the same boat that Im very high on.

My number one sleeper is Kezie Okpala. He’ll be playing for Stanford in the Pac 12. 6’8 195 forward plays like a gaurd kind of in the mould of Brandon Ingram. Not sure if hes a one and done prospect but hes got loads of potential.

As for the top pick its really hard to tell. I dont think Porter has the playmaking abillity to seperate himself from the others. Ayton hasnt shown the competitive intensity to lead a team. Donkic seems like a great all around glue guy but not your lead guy more like a very good 3rd or 2nd option that can do a bit of everything. To me its between Bagley and Bamba.

Bagley seems like he could develop into a slimmer Demarcus Cousins. Bamba has freakish length can space the floor like Maker and can defend like Gobert. The NBA has never seen that before.

Interesting draft to say the least.

Just on your Bamba point I think that he is not unique as you think.

Anthony Davis, Kristaps Porzingis & Myles Turner are all guys who can shoot the long ball (not to mention have far better offensive games than Maker),but they can play defensive at a very high rate. Turner was 3rd in blocks last year.

Bamba could be another one of these unicorn players, which could very well be a number 1 pick.

Anthony Davis and Kristaps Porzingis have the potential to play good defense and make amazing defensive plays but Ill say this knowing most will disagree, they arent good defensive players. A few highlight blocks does not win defensive possessions throughout a 48 minute game. I could be wrong though wouldnt be the first time just those two dont strike me as intimidating defensive presences when I watch them play. I dont watch a Knicks game thinking "who is Porzingis gonna shut down tonight?".

    • Miles Bridges – I am higher on him than most, and feel as if he’s undervalued by this site as a prospect, because his draft slots have fluctuated tremendously between last season and this upcoming one. Right now he’s slated at #13, but I believe he’s a top-10 lock.
    • Trevon Duval – Huge sleeper that will be a lottery pick after the season is over with; my gut feeling is that he’s possibly the first PG selected.
    • Malik Newman – The forgotten transfer no one speaks of within this draft class. I believe he will play himself back into the mix of being a draftable prospect this year with the supporting cast that he has in Kansas.

Bamba: upside. Ayton gets the David Robinson comps, but having watched a few highlights on YouTube, I like that comparison more for Bamba.

Michael Porter, Jr. is a 6’10 athletic guy who can shoot.  Obviously intriguing, becoming a default pick in that 1-3 range, or at least in the discussion.

Miles Bridges: glorified consolation prize at worst, total game changer at best.  Kinda want to see Bridges on Philly as the new Charles Barkley.  Could be a steal at 10, maybe even a very, very good pick as high as 5.

My draft board would look like this: Really like Bamba at 2.  Super like Porter, Jr. at 5.  Like Ayton in the 5-10 range if he falls.  LOVE Miles Bridges at 10-15.  Other than that? Not sure.  I would think about trading if one of those outcomes wasn’t on the table.  I might trade into the middle of the first round, pick up some other assets, then roll the dice on Tacko Fall in the 2nd round.

This draft will be about the top 5 or so, another top heavy draft.  Then everybody is gonna try to find the next Kyle Kuzma.  Teams will go looking for the next Jordan Bell in the second round.

Outside the top 15, maybe even the top 10, I wouldn’t really get my hopes up.  Draft a guy who can make the team, even if he isn’t a projected rotation guy.  Outside the lotto or at least the late first round, you are looking at role players.  So, what do you need?

Luka Donkic: from highlights… not a super athlete.  not huge.  7-8 range?

NBA teams need to figure out how much a 2nd round pick is worth.  If the price is right buy one.  Or, sell one.  Although the Bulls got big bucks for a 2nd rounder that turned into Jordan Bell.  Bell looks like a good rotation guy (down the road) for the Warriors.  ALSO looks like a guy who woulda been a real good fit down low with Lauri Markkanen.  Oops.

In the 2018 draft, outside the top unicorn picks:

Motor, long, shooting skills, defensive potential, fit: Pick 3.

I also can’t wait to see Collin play I really want to see how his game translates, seems like he’s already made some adjustments from a combo guard, to trying to become more of a lead/point guard.

I also think his teammates John Petty will have a great season. Great stroke and good athlete with alot of game.

I think Trevon Duval and PJ Washington are being very underrated right now, and both will go higher than their currently mocked.

Pretty excited for this season to start!

John Petty looks like a stone cold killer out there. Ice blood in his veins type sharpshooter.

This is Deandre Aytons lottery to loose.  Ayton would ball Jaren Jackson up and dunk him thru the floor.  The guy looks like a MonStar out there.
