JoeWolf1I really like the idea of the NBDL. It gives young players or veterans who wouldn’t necessarily make a team a chance to play under an NBA organization and put them self in a position to be called up by that organization. However, are we ever going to see a star or even a really solid NBA contributer rise from the NBDL to that point? Maybe I’m over looking someone, but top notch NBDL players over the years like Ansu Sesay, Morris Almond, James White, and Pops Mensu Bonsu, are just good 9-12th men to have on your team. Yes, they can play valuable roles on teams, and make them better, but will we ever see a star come from the NBDL??? Or am I over looking anyone???

JoeWolf1I forgot about Rafer Alston too, didn’t he play in the D-League at one point?

bobbygillerLou only played 3 games in the NBDL and Alston only played 6 games so i wouldnt really consider them "NBDL players" but technically yea they did play there

crazyknicksfanParticipantdo d-league players get payed?
0 - Posted on: Wed, 09/02/2009 - 9:34am #209112
JoeWolf1yeah, but only about 12,000-27,000 per year, unless they are under contract by an NBA team. If that is the case then they get payed under the terms of that contract.

JoeWolf1no prob, Pops has the type of versatility in his game. I saw him play a decent amount in college and he has improved on that since then too, and he’ll get some minutes in Houston, but I think star might be a little overzealous, I wouldn’t be surprised if he put up around 7-9 ppg.

Anton123ParticipantI think D-Leauge is great, maybe Kwame Brown & DeShawn Stevenson should have went there for a couple years and would’ve turned out into something good.
These are the good players out of D-Leauge
Rafer Alston, Jordan Farmar, Matt Barnes, Chris Andersen, Kelenna Azubuike, Will Bynum, Dahntay Jones, Jamario Moon, Smush Parker, Von Wafer…. quite a lot really.0 - Posted on: Wed, 09/02/2009 - 12:00pm #209165
kong47272ParticipantI think they should let guys who want to join the pros right after high school play a year in D-League as an alternative to a year in college.
Also it would be awesome to see the D-League All-Stars play the NBA Rookie team during the all-star break it would be great publicity for the NBDL

llperezKong, they do allow the players to skip college and go directly to the d-league if they want. The players are often hesitant to do this because playing d-league with older men who are mostly non nba level players doesn’t help your stock as much as tearing it up in college against worse competition.
