A vote has been conducted by the LA Times, asking NBA Players and Coaches to vote for the "Dirtiest player in the NBA". And the results are in…

    • 1st Place – Matthew Dellavedova (Australia)
    • 2nd Place – Steven Adams (New Zealand)
    • 3rd Place – Andrew Bogut (Australia)
    • 4th Place – Matt Barnes (United States)
    • 5th Place – Serge Ibaka (Congolese/Spanish)

Notice a strong Oceanic Flavour at the top of this vote?

I was cynical, so I decided to analyse the stats in further detail…League Leaders in Unsportsmanlike Fouls…

    • Draymond Green – 2 Flagrants – 8 Technicals
    • Dwight Howard – 1 Flagrant – 10 Technicals
    • Kyle Lowry – 0 Flagrants – 8 Technicals – 2 Ejections
    • Blake Griffin – 1 Flagrant – 7 Technicals – 2 Ejections
    • Markief Morris – 1 Flagrant – 7 Technicals.

Amazingly, the only one on the "Dirtiest List" which has a significant number of "dirty plays" is Matt Barnes, who has 3 Flagrants and 3 Technicals. Otherwise….

    • Dellavedova – 1 Flagrants 0 Technica1s
    • Bogut – 1 Flagrants 0 Technicals
    • Adams – 0 Flagrants 1 Technical
    • Ibaka – 0 Flagrants 3 Technicals

Therefore I have come to a conclusion….The league is racist towards Australian and New Zealand players!

How else could this data otherwise be explained?

i read about this earlier. First off, they polled a grand total of 24 people which included players and coaches. Thats not very many to represent a league wide opinion. Poll is irrelevant

Yeah its a poor sample size..but I doubt the results would vary that much if they expanded it.

I think a big part of Aussie basketball is our hustle- we aren’t top level athletes, so to see the floor you have to be gritty and make the little plays. Guys like Delly and Bogut are the kind of guys you love if they play for your team but hate otherwise. They both do whatever it takes, and sometimes that comes off as dirty.

Im from New Zealand and believe that there is a difference between dirty and tough. Steven Adams and Delly are not dirty basketball players. They are both tough, fundamentally sound, irritants on D who tend to piss off many folks they play and get labeled dirty for it.

Anyone else surprised Bogut is on the list? Didnt think he was a dirty player. I think hustle and toughness has been getting confused with dirty play. Grow up this is a mans game. Play like a man.

A strange list.  Two players who were in the NBA Finals.  Two Thunder players who could go to the NBA Finals soon, if Durant and Westbrook are healthy.

There are certainly some in the NBA who treat out of town players harshly.  Tibor Pleiss, Jusif Nurkic, Nikola Petkovic, all among the top players for fouls per 36 minutes.

Derek Fisher always made lists like this, maybe Matt Barnes is following in his footsteps.

They asked 24 people?  It sounds like they just asked the Clippers and Lakers, or maybe some Warriors too.

It’s a fine line between dirty and tough. I’d call Adams, Delly and Bogut tough, I haven’t seen to much dirty from them.

To me dirty basketball acts are kncoking players off balance in mid air, sneaky elbows while rebounding, generally trying to hide nasty acts from the refs eor clearing the bench running into the stands and knocking some punks out (was good viewing though); not going as hard as you can and then wearing a foul if you go to hard or a bit clumsily..
