NBADraft.net: Where Have the Good Times (and the General Civilness) Gone?
In my humble opinion, the .Net has gotten a wee bit too serious, and in some cases, too mean-spirited. It almost seems that gone are the days where McDunkin and Co. had massive GIF battles and NoMoney and OrangeJuiceJones were making the epic Popcorn threads. It seems that Leroy Jenkins has been noticeably absent of late. In fact, I am even beginning to miss Lil B and "Based God" references, because at least they were light-hearted fun.
Recently, hostility has abounded and has manifested itself in threads such as:
-Calling out INDIANABASKETBALL (highly unnecessary, and it escalated to a ridiculous point)
-Johnny Chill (which I actually enjoyed, but it got a little ugly. Hilarious, and it reminded me of a murder mystery with fingers pointing everywhere, but ugly. I don't think it was necessary, but I did get some lols)
And now, trolls (and I mean obnoxious trolls, not like trolls of the good ole days) like Patty Mills and gay fish have returned and they're stupid, and Popcorn isn't getting continued, and the Off-Topic board is dead.
Then you have "serious" posters who are unnecessarily hostile. Tuck, FvckSwag666, Johnny Chill, I am looking at you guys. And learn some grammers.
I just like seeing a cool Off-Topic thread everynow and then, rather than a dumb thread in the NBADraft category. C'mon, McDunkin! NoMoney! OJJ! Leroy! Bring back the funny!
Now, I know some of you will try to come back at with me with the following claims:
1. "THIS IS A BASKETBALL FORUM"- And I promise, I AM NOT SAYING PEOPLE SHOULD STOP TALKING ABOUT BASKETBALL. In fact, I am saying, enough of these stupid call-out threads. Some of them are meant to be funny and not-for-real like with the "Tale of the Tape"/"Feud" threads, but the ones above were just silly. I encourage open, positive basketball talk, not critical, negative, "You're an idiot" crap.
2. "Stop your crying, ProudGrandpa. Grow up. If you don't like what the site is becoming, then leave"- To that, I say, this site is still great. The legendary users are still awesome and clever and bright, and the basketball discussion is fantastic. But some crapwater is also seeping in. I just want reform, not revolution. I feel these are valid complaints, and I just want to put them out there.
3. "How can you complain about trolls when you're a huge troll, ProudGrandpa?"- Unlike gay fish and Patty Mills, I try to have a clever, light-hearted brand of humor and I also offer my input on basketball topics all the time, unlike these guys. I try to embrace the NBADraft.net community and relate to all you guys, not make enemies as these two trolls are obviously trying to do.
4. "What is the point of this thread?"- Ummmm. A valid question. I don't expect anybody to read this and change their habits, but I just want to voice a strong opinion that I have been developing of late.
Thanks for listening, folks! And leave IndianaBasketball alone!!!
I really think the last time I consistently posted on here was when nomoney and the gang were at their primes.
Oh, and you can't forget about Scarecrow and all of his trade ideas. They always sparked quite the entertaining thread
You are a crabby old man.
Er... is this not a call-out thread? Are you not "calling out" several people by name for behavior you don't appreciate?
I like the idea of making things light hearted and I agree that some people take this stuff too seriously, but you are not changing any minds with your unintentionally hypocritical post.
Um, good point. BUT, I meant to do it in a non-negative manner. I'm not concentrating on a single poster or trying to destroy anyones credibility like Boywinder did IB, I just want to make the site a better place.
And i just wanna raise Patty Mills awareness around the world.
The chicks at St. Marys are less than average in looks, but above average in weight.
I appreciate that you want more civility.... But as long as we're dishing out constructive criticism, you should know that your posts can make this site 'not fun.' I've only been a member for about 6 months, and I love it here. Check the .net over 3-times a day.... And you post a lot of funny stuff. But all this calling out other users, and giving awards to the top posters, makes this site cliquey and 'not a better place.' IMO

Outside of LeRoy showing up it's been several months/years since most of this stuff. It's not just happening now.
Luckily, you have kept most of what you do off-topic. However, with the occasional Indiana-tinged basketball comment or some other mild musing, you pretty much TALK ABOUT POSTERS ON HERE ALL THE TIME! I mean, you were the one who came up with that pretty ridiculous, usually ego stroking or passive aggressive "Let's Talk About" series. Dude, you want the board to be positive, SET AN EXAMPLE. So far, not done. You are young (or old), but you also are full of yourself and not nearly as humorous to people as you tend to think you are.
I try to have a clever, light-hearted brand of humor and I also offer my input on basketball topics all the time, unlike these guys. I try to embrace the NBADraft.net community and relate to all you guys, not make enemies as these two trolls are obviously trying to do.
Both of these posters are mildly not cared about, I am sorry to say. Gay Fish is basically JLV, guessing the threads they have made equal just about 5 (I hope less, hope it stays that way). Patty Mills made me laugh incredibly hard at "nobody tells Patty Mills to STFU", so his coming back is only mildly annoying.
You obviously are not that type of troll, but you continue to be a troll at times. So you are allowed to waste the main board with posts about posters on here, but others can't make a couple posts? I agree IndianaBasketball one was ridiculous and got out of hand, but I think we need to stop talking about these other ones and get on with our lives. We were doing that I believe, until this well after the fact post.
Don't like the call out threads as well, but as far as basketball information, this is one of the best times I've seen in the year I've been active here, at least since the begining of the lockout. The big names might not be posting much but the quality of information and arguements is pretty good, although the trolls are awfull annoying(And Proud Grandpa is not a troll, trolls are users who intentionally post crap, like Gay Fish, Jlv, and Patty Mills(although he is a funny troll)). This wasn't necesary, but I get your point, but guys like Joe Wolf, Yup Yup, nbanflguy, Pulse Glazer, Mikey V, Taylor Condrin, Junk Yard Dog, Surve, Fvck Swag, BTPH, and Future Scout to me are the frequent posters that to me make the site as good as it is basketball wise, and I can always count on McDunkin with funny and informative news stories.
it does hurt the civility and I think makes guys scared to post. IndianaBBall posted a topic about Billy Hunter earlier and nobody replied for 6 hours. It seems that he is like a coach that lost the respect of his players. Its sh!tty because a great poster that actually talks basketball and doesn't just post to whack point factory threads, he is now he's treated like a lame duck poster.
I feel you GrandPa, I am addicted to this damn site and I want to keep it that way. Its easy to take this stuff personal. I only looked at it like once a week now everyday a couple times. I used to be CoachWorthy but thats my real name and I was taking stuff too seriously so I just quit under that name. An off topic thread about some journalist band camp where you caught cooties, is what actually made me start posting and checking on here daily.
Please dont neg me but I need to know, IDK why but I do. He is a legend but I have a 50 bet on this subject and I need to know. This may have been covered before my time and if it has so beit, it needs resurfacing.
I demand to know who the black guy is in MikeyV's avatar?
Pretty sure it's DeAnthony Thomas.
Things will likely pick back up after the draft. The forum is simply less receptive to silliness when real basketball's being played or there are a myriad of draft rumors to discuss.
Could you edit that post with a no reply, because if not I am out 50 bucks.
Haha maybe if you had responded quicker. I can't edit it now. Maybe Mikey will just say it was someone else.
Y2G is in a serious relationship with his boy friend room mate.
Last time I checked my relationship status on FB it didn't read "serious relationship with boyfriend roommate". But then again, maybe you know something I don't.
Y2G thumbed me down with both of his accounts.
I certainly would if I had more then one.
There's no time for tom-foolery. Playoffs are right around the corner, as well as finals for us college students (I have finals this week). Serious, serious business on this site until summer league starts.
http://nbadraft.net/forum/what-your-weakness-basketball-player NBAnNFLGuy, you're a good poster and your comebacks are generally better than Johnny Chill's, but if you really want to win this fight, just stop reacting, man.
Answered the question the first time you asked it. Who is the 50 dollar bet with?
You always harassing me for not talking about/giving uninsightful comments about basketball. Well, I have a confession to make. Compared to guys like you, I don't know that much about basketball. At least, not enough to add anything original to what has already been said. I have never seen Nerlens Noel or Shabazz Muhammad or Andrew Wiggin play. I am 17, I don't have cable at my mom's house where I generally live. I don't see near as much basketball as I would like. But I love the game. Especially the college game. So I read what y'all have to say, and I am more educated for it.
The reason I make threads about other posters is not to gossip about them or criticize them and make myself feel like The Shizz. I truly enjoy the social dynamic on this site and I want to see what other users think of other users. I make threads like the Survivor thread because A) I like to write B) those kinds of threads always end up beong the most fun, for me at least and C) because I think its funny how all the top posters have distinct personalities and running jokes about them and I can work these into a story and get a lot of chuckles. Not because I want points or want everyone to like me (though that can't hurt, considering my earlier repuitation), but because I just want to entertain.
So, there ya go. (ALso, I think you got robbed in our fantasy playoff game, because it gave me that tie breaker, but I think there was a stat correction and you really won 5 categories, becaue, if you click on the scoreboard now, it says its 5-4 in your favor. But Sherdog would've won anyways.)
But if you see it that way, I apologize. Have to say, never appreciated the "when are you and (blank) getting married" jokes you have made in the past. Just do not find that kind of stuff funny and feel that sometimes you are more lowest common denominator than "clever, light-hearted". That being said, I think I treat you the same way as I treat most posters I feel either need improvement or those I may feel have an ulterior motive.
One thing I do appreciate is honesty, which you have been showing more of and I saw a lot (I believe) in that last post. Something I have to say is that you do tend to instigate things and make people believe you have something beyond the intentions of pure entertainment. Maybe you could kind of look at some of the things you find funny and see room for improvement. I will definitely keep in mind your intentions are not all bad and try to stop posting things you feel are harassment, as that is not my intention.
This site definitely has a fun social aspect, but I agree with amare_apache that it can leave people out and get cliquey. That is not really a good thing. I do not think we need to have awards every time a person is bored (yearly seems better than bi-yearly). Also, I would encourage you to try and use your creativity to apply to things you would like to know about basketball. I tend to dislike posts that people do no research on, but if you think of something you would like to debate or discuss, those posts tend to be some of the better ones on the site.
That's part of the good/bad with debating. The line shouldnt be crossed as far as personal attacks but "calling out" should be acceptable just like it is on these sports debate shows that run past tapes of someone predicting something wrong.
When are you and Wreckless getting married?
i must have missed this era
Im not gif battling for free anymore until I get paid.
Aran wont agree to the terms of my contract extension and he really has a problem with turning the 2009 draft day challenge forum into the McDunkin appreciation forum.
