Courtney Sims Named NBA D-League Performer of the Week

Courtney Sims of the Iowa Energy was today named NBA Development League Performer of the Week for games played during the week of Nov. 14. A 6-11, 245-pound center, Sims led Iowa to a 2-0 record to start the season, averaging 23.0 points and 10.5 rebounds in back-to-back victories over Dakota.

Sims scored a game-high 27 points, shooting 10-of-12 from the field and 7-of-7 from the free-throw line, and grabbed seven rebounds to lead Iowa over Dakota, 113-92, in each team’s season opener in Bismarck on Friday. On Saturday, Sims shot 5-of-8 from the field and 9-of-11 from the free-throw line, scoring 19 points to go with a game-high 14 rebounds in Iowa’s 99-90 home win over the Wizards.

Other top performers last week included Austin’s Marcus Cousin, who averaged 20.0 points and 12.5 rebounds in two games; Bakersfield’s Trey Johnson, who averaged 22.5 points and 4.0 assists in two games; Fort Wayne’s Rod Wilmont, who had 20 points and 10 rebounds in one game; Iowa’s Othyus Jeffers, who averaged 20.0 points, 8.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists in two games; New Mexico’s Alan Anderson, who scored 34 points in one game, and Shane Edwards, who had 24 points and 10 rebounds in one game; Reno’s Mo Charlo, who averaged 20.0 points, 9.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists in two games, and Patrick Ewing Jr., who averaged 21.5 points, 9.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists in two games; Rio Grande Valley’s Richard Roby, who scored 31 points in one game; Springfield’s Scottie Reynolds, who averaged 21.0 points and 3.5 rebounds in two games; and Tulsa’s Marcus Lewis, who averaged 18.5 points and 8.5 rebounds in two games.

Raptors Assign Ed Davis To Erie BayHawks

Toronto Raptors forward Ed Davis was assigned to the Erie BayHawks, the Raptors’ NBA Development League affiliate, it was announced today. The assignment marks the fifth time in the 2010-11 season an NBA player has been assigned to an NBA D-League affiliate, and it is the first assignment for Davis, a rookie out of North Carolina.

    10 With a Chance

Here are ten players that can be considered the top current candidates for a GATORADE Call-Up. If you disagree or think that other players should be mentioned, feel free to leave a comment below.

Othyus Jeffers – Jeffers, the 2008-09 NBA D-League Rookie of the Year, filled the stat sheet in his first two games of the season for Iowa. He heads into Monday’s game averaging 20.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 2.5 steals and looks poised for a return to an NBA roster after getting waived by the Jazz just prior to the start of the NBA season.

Courtney Sims, Iowa – Sims didn’t really seem to get into the flow last season with Earl Barron already entrenched in the lineup when he arrived from overseas, but after this weekend it looks like is back to his 2008-09 MVP form. Sims dominated the Wizards in two games, shooting .750 (15-20) from the field and scoring 23.0 points per game. With many free agent big men opting to sign overseas, Sims looks to be the best option if an NBA team is looking to the NBA D-League for a center to add to their roster.

Alan Anderson, New Mexico – The former Bobcats player and the second overall pick in the draft was outstanding in his Thunderbirds debut on Saturday. Anderson shot 6-9 from three-point range and finished with 34 points. Anderson also was able to get to the line at will, making 13 trips to the charity stripe. He appears to be the best NBA D-League option right now for an NBA team looking for an experienced player who can man the shooting guard and small forward positions. Watch video highlights.

Antonio Daniels, Texas – The 35-year old NBA veteran answered a lot of questions with an excellent debut for the Texas Legends after sitting out last season. Daniels filled up the stat sheet with 19 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists during his first game on Thursday night. He also played 43 minutes, which showed that he’s in great shape and ready to contribute if an NBA team comes calling.

Trey Johnson, Bakersfield – Johnson returned to the Jam for a fourth season after being waived by the Lakers in training camp. The former Cavaliers call-up has played both guard spots for the Jam during his career and is off to an excellent start with 22.5 points per game on .533 shooting. Also a solid passer, Johnson dished out four assists in both of his first two games of the season. Watch video highlights.

Nick Fazekas, Reno – Fazekas came into the season with high expectations after going first in the draft. After an injury-plagued season overseas last year, the former Maverick and Clipper looked to be in good shape with 20.0 points and 11.0 rebounds over his first two games while shooting .640 from the field.

Sean Williams, Texas – The former first-round pick had a good debut for the Legends, blocking five shots while scoring 15 points and grabbing five rebounds. Williams should be one of the top rebounder and shot-blockers in the league this season, and his NBA experience makes him a viable candidate to return to an NBA roster at some point this season.

Richard Roby, RGV – A prolific scorer in college, Roby has appeared in some summer league games but this will be his first year fully on NBA scout’s radars as a member of the Rio Grande Valley Vipers. They had to have liked what they saw as Roby came off the bench to score 31 points and grab eight rebounds. The all-time leading scorer in Colorado history displayed a great outside shot, connecting on 4-5 of his attempts from three-point range. Watch video highlights.

Zabian Dowdell, Tulsa – Dowdell returned to Tulsa after a good showing with the Suns in training camp, and he should get every chance to put up big numbers running the offense of a talented Tulsa team. He”s averaging 18.5 points and 6.5 assists to start the season, and bounced back with an 8-14 shooting line after going a rocky 5-19 in his season debut.

Mustafa Shakur, RGV – Shakur was one of the league’s best guards last season and enters 2010-11 after nearly making the Hornets roster. He didn’t have the best game to start the season for Rio Grande Valley on Thursday, but expect a player with Shakur’s talents to bounce back before long.

Alabi, Eyenga and Ed Davis is a great core for a D-league team. They also have Cedric Jackson, who was called up a couple times last year

When i 1st saw Richard Roby play in college at Colorado, i was fooled into  thinking he would be an excellent pro..But the more i saw him play, the more his limitations were exposed..He had a hard time finishing plays..And lack knowledge on how to play the game..
