Who here would like to see an NBA veteran’s league ?

As you get older you still have alot of your skill but your speed, quickness, agility and vert starts to decline.

You could make the minimum age like 38 or 40. You could have 8-10 teams, maybe play 20 games for the season, top 4 make playoffs. Possibly play 9 or 10 minute quarters.

The young kids growing up could see future hall of famers eg. Kidd, Nash, Iverson, Billups etc still dazzle on the court by playing against each other rather than trying to hold on to the NBA spotlight and getting their ankles broken trying to guard the Westbrook’s / Wall’s of the league.

They could do games completely separately or maybe have them as a double header before a proper NBA game. Give fans the option of purchasing tickets for the normal game or charge a few bucks more to see both games.

Really thought about that before. Seems like a pretty fun idea to me though, I wouldn’t mind it at all.

If it did happen, I wonder who would be the oldest player playing?

My gut feeling says the competitor in Jordan would make him want to play in this league. I can see him at 50+ years old being a 20+ ppg scorer in a league with a minimum age of 40. It’d take some time to get back into shape, but probably not too long since he’s not trying to get into NBA game shape.

Kurt Thomas, Nazr Mohammed, Kevin Willis, PJ Brown, Juwan Howard or Lindsey Hunter. It’s like they never leave the game. One moment you think they’re done then one team snatches them up for a one year contract LOL.

Seeing players dunk and make really athletic plays is one draw of the nba. There would be a lot of below the rim basketball, would really matter to me because I’m a Bball junkie but to the average fan they probably would prefer just the NBA.

Yes it would be less athletic and less highlight reel dunks but still entertaining to watch.  There would still be some nice assists.  Grant Hill could still get up there and finish in style in his last season or two in the league.

Dr J can still dunk at the age of 50+

Instead of having an entire league, lets start by having a one game all-star event for retired players. I am actually surprised this hasn’t happened, I would much rather watch MJ, Bird, Magic, Shaq and Barkley,(theres some comedy) Hakeem and other retired players play a game then watch the skills challenge. Obviously it would be a very slow paced game but it would be good entertainment and fun to watch the legends show off the fundamentals again.

Thought I would love to see it as well I’d imagine there would have to be an absurd insurance policy on that game.

Hakeem would dominate a vet league. He is in prime shape to this day and with all the work outs he runs for NBA bigs his skills are still extremely high. Not a lot of retired bigs who stay in shape, I think The Dream would be amazing in this.

David Robinson is another guy that would be tremendous in this league. Everytime I see a camera pan to him during a Spurs game the guy looks like he still plays.

    I’m leary of this concept.

Kareem, and I beleive Dr. J, played one on one after they hung it up.  I don’t remember it well, but it was likely for charity.  What I do remember is it was really really ugly.

Then on that Jocks v. Joes show (or whatever it was called) we were treated to a post retirement Xavier McDaniel pulling a hamstring while going half speed.

Old Timers game use to be part of All Star Weekend, but fans got tired of seeing overweight, big belly, out of shaped guys that no longer could play the game..It became too sloppy due to too many turnovers, too many missed shots and it was flatout boring, thats why they stopped it…..

Watching 40 year olds Jordan & Kareem playing in their final days in the league, isnt the way fans want to remember them…

This league would be about as fun to watch as the WNBA

The All Star idea suggested by Fritz would be fun provided they got guys who were in good shape to take part. I’m sure some of the NBA coaches and their coaching staff would take part.
