valentineVs pacers: 42, 46, 47, 48
Vs raptors: 47, 47, 45, 47, 43, 45, 48
Vs bucks: 48, 44, 47, 47, 44, 44
Vs. lakers: 52, 47, 47, 46, 45These are Iverson’s MPG in the 2000/2001 playoffs.
BTW: Kobe played 52, 47, 48, 43, 44 against the Sixers in 2001.
Shaq played 52, 45, 41, 42, 45 against the Sixers in 2001.All this noise about Russell Westbrook playing so many minutes.
To this point he’s been averagingVs. the Spurs: 36, 29, 36, 45, 30 minutes (and looked gassed today).
Vs. the Clippers: 30, 40, 37, 38, 43, 39.
Vs. Memphis: 32, 43, 39, 44, 48, 39, 38.To be more emphatic, AI had gone 45 minutes or above 17 times!
Russel Westbrook has done it TWICE so far!!!
Different Era I guess!!!!
I want to look at these numbers a lot more but bball reference is a pain to research.

joecheck88ParticipantIn his defense Westbrook is 100% all the time. He rarely takes plays off. AI and Kobe weren’t guarding each other and Shaq wasn’t running around guarding C. Westbrook is asked to create offense most possessions and has been guarding Parker. Not just 1 on 1 mind you. He’s fighting through screens and chasing him off them without the ball. There was one play where he played excellent 1 on 1 defense, fought through the screener, recovered then as the ball was dishes backwards to Green he closed out onto him and he wasn’t even his man. The guy is working hard. Westbrook isn’t a great PG but he is a great player and I’ll take him on my side any day.

Magic JordanParticipantBoth Kobe and Iverson played 100% all of the time, Kobe played both sides of the ball as well. But really nobody played harder than Iverson, it’s a hard thing to quantify but to say Westbrook plays harder than Iverson, I don’t think that’s really true.
Now Shaq? Absolutely.

the I in winParticipantKobe and Iverson took plenty of plays of on defense, just like every high level player does, but so does Westbrook so I’m not sure why he isn’t capable of playing more; not enough cardio? It has been a trend to rest players a bit more with the idea that a good back up is better than a tired star, it’s not true at all but it’s good enough for the regular season and a dumb coach like Brooks isn’t about to buck the trend.

joecheck88ParticipantI’ve watched more Iverson than most and he took plays off on defense. Kobe I know has. Sure Westbrook does but the last few games I have seen less of that.

BigChamp12ParticipantTimes are just different now. People put emphasis on the need to rest players nowadays. In the past eras most stars were playing 40mins and up. Offenses were also more tailored to stars back then IMO. Stars dominated games, and there was not a such thing as needing to get anybody involved. That’s why individual stats were so much higher in the past eras than now. Players played heavier minutes and took more shots. I think the media coverage has a lot to do with this. A player takes 30 shots now and it will definitely be highlighted, more times in the negative light. If a guy plays 44 mins, we have media guys saying things like "All of those minutes have got to be a concern for so and so. He looks gassed." Guys have always looked gassed. It’s part of the game. Leave it all on the court and you’ll rest after the game. But… perception is everything. I could’ve worded everything better, but I was just rambling.
