NBA Suspends Tyreke Evans & Brandon Rush
The NBA has suspended players Tyreke Evans,Brandon Rush & Kenny Hasbrouck for separate Incidents this Summer..
Evans of the Sacramento Kings was suspended for 1 game without pay, for Pleading No Contest to Reckless Driving..A Violation of California Law..
Rush of the Indiana Pacers received a 5 game suspension without pay for Violating the NBA's Anti-Rule Drug Rules...
Hasbrouck who is on the Miami Heat's roster received a 2 game suspension for Pleading Guilty to Driving while Intoxicated,,,,,,,
Kenny Hasbrouck won't have to worry, he's going to miss more than just 2 games. LOL
Rush surprised me with this one.
cus he smoked some weed? im sure quite a few players in the league toke up.. especially in the off season. I don't see what the big deal is, definitely shouldnt warrent a 5 game suspension in my opinion
The big deal is that its illegal.. When someone breaks the law, that should have some kind of punishment.. I think, personally, that it should be more..
I'm not shocked that he fired it up.....it's just that I thought he would be a good character player.
Seriously, I'm not sure him doing weed necessarily makes Rush a bad character guy. Probably not the best judgment, but it's definitely better than beating on women or driving drunk. There are a lot of people that have done drugs at one point or another, some of which may be your parents and they don't get labeled as bad character people. With that said, the guy who tested positive for what we presume is weed gets 5 games. A guy is speeding at a ridiculously high speed limit, gets 1 game and the other guy only gets two games for driving drunk? Now I may be really stupid, but aren't those last two situations something that could have definitely gotten someone injured or killed? I hate what drugs have done to our society, but we give the harshest punishments for stupid drug offenses. Lance Stephenson beats his girlfriend and no one doubts that he's still going to be on a basketball team in the NBA. The Steelers QB goes around raping girls and he only gets suspended a few games with the chance to come back early if he does well, but Michael Vick has his career dismantled for fighting dogs. Plexico Burress though extremely stupid and irresponsible shoots himself in the leg and gets more time than a football player (Donte Stallworth) that kills a man because he's driving drunk. Is it me or are you going to get more time for hurting an animal or yourself, than you are for abusing or hurting other people? That's twisted.
Let me clear it up.... what I meant to say is it will mess his blue collar image up that he has in Bird's eyes.
I simply think that for breaking the law, in any way, should result in more of a punishment than sitting a few games.. Why not suspend them for half the year without pay.. If they are making 10 million that year, they only get 5 and there is no way they can get that back.. Then people would stop breaking the law and thinking they can get away with it because they have money.. People would think twice about hitting their GF or going 130 in a 40 or smoking weed...
Prime example of what you're trying to convey is, in America you can get more time for selling dope than for commiting a murder.
doubledribble you make some great points..i've been thinking the same thing...
the laws in this country are messed up so some of you guys need to become judges because yall make more sense than the people it would appear now is controlling things.
You suspend a player for half a basketball season for smoking weed and you are coming down too hard. That's far too drastic man. It's illegal and not a good look, but smoking weed (IN THE OFF SEASON) and sitting out half a season go together about as well as Ben Wallace and a beauty pageant
Well.. If that happened, and there were longer suspensions for more serious crimes, this league would be full of upstanding citizens.. This would no longer be a league where the majority of the players are classified as "thugs." The whole NBA gets that wrap because of a few bad apples.. SO, come down hard on the guys who screw up so that the world sees the league for what it is instead of a bunch of "thugs" from the ghetto getting paid money for playing a game while the rest of America busts their A$$ to earn a buck...
i could not disagree more with that last comment.. if the league continues to hand out longer suspensions for 'crimes' such as smoking weed it will become absolutely ridiculous. This league is already doing a good job of undermining players rights by enforcing the new dress code to take the 'thug culture' out of the game. This, included with increased suspensions for tech's is all an increased effort to clean up the leagues image... or just a bunch of rich owners trying to make the most out of these players short careers. If the nba continues this trend of increased fines and suspensions for every little slip up, they might as well replace stern with george bush. Lets get that right wing agenda throughout the league too!!!
Slip up?? So when you sign your contract that says you will not violate a drug policy and you will be punished accordingly if you do, that is going to far?? It is Stern's league and the best in the world. He can do what he wants with it.. IMO, breaking the law is something that these guys should be punished hard for.. I dont want my kids looking up to these guys and seeing this:
ESPN: "Brandon Rush gets suspended 5 games for violating the marijuana policy."
Child: "So Dad, if I go to the NBA and smoke weed, I dont get in trouble, I just get to rest for 5 games?"
What am I supposed to say to that??
These guys are Celebs and Millionaires. They are role models to tons of people.. They need to live up to that and quit doing things that were cool in 10th grade.. Quit breaking the law.. Its not that hard..
