Here is a breakdown of day 2 of the NBA Summer League.

    http://www.beforethescore.com/nba-summer-league-2014.html

Kentavious Caldwell-Pope – For the second day in a row Pope has been the most dominate player on the floor. He dropped 30 points, 12 Reb, 3 ast, and 2 steals. He is making a statement for playing time and looks like he will carve out a role this season. We comped him to Swaggy P (Nick Young) yesterday and he is showing he may be Swaggy P with a little more defensive prowess. He can very well win the Summer League MVP in Orlando.

James Ennis – For the second game in a row Ennis has been the LeBron James of the Miami Heat summer league team. Ennis was discussed yesterday and today was even more impressive. He dropped 29 points on 10-12 shooting with 7-8 from down town. Ennis should be on the Heat roster this season and if he can shoot consistently from down town he will find minutes. Ennis did not join the Heat last season due to their cap constraints and opted to play over season to make more money as opposed to being in the D-League. This season Ennis appears to be to good to pass up for an end of the bench guy with upside.

I think Nick Young is a terrible comparison for KCP. Nick has never met a shot he didn’t like and has an overabundance of confidence (most of which is unwarranted). KCP seems almost shy at times and seemed if anything to lack confidence last year. KCP also can play within an offence without having plays run for him.

I agree with your Nick Young evaluation. The Lakers were terrible this year. Nick Young wouldn’t see minutes on a playoff team. The Lakers were built to have Streve Nash, Kobe Bryant, and Pau Gosol. Nick Young’s minutes and statistics are inflated. Ryan Kelly and Kendall Marshall are similar examples. All three players are borderline not good enough to contribute to a playoff team.

Completely disagree with the comparison of KCP to Nick Young.  Sadly, I can safely say he made me a casual Laker fan for the first time in over 10 years.  I’ve been a passionate Pau hater since I saw him whining and flopping courtside at a Sonics vs. Memphis game (R.I.P.)….love me some Swaggy P though! aha

Dating back to a comparison for KCP from the forum, the best I’ve seen are from kobyz & northernlights666.

They both came up with Ben Gordon/MarShon Brooks and the thing is KCP is actually a cut from both players.

I was lucky to see plenty of James Ennis last year playing for my home town Wildcats in the Australian NBL and can tell you he can flat out play.  He was robbed of the MVP trophy being beaten by a player who’s stats across the board were lower and played for a mid table team compared to Ennis leading his team to the title.  Ennis probably owns 3 or 4 of the NBL’s all-time greatest dunks from his one season here and will excite and entertain wherever he goes.  Best of luck to him, it was tough last year making the SF spot on a team that boasted James, Battier, Lewis, James Jones and Beasley.

Ennis is a baller. If the Heat are trying to save money in order to allocate into a higher profile player Ennis fits their team perfectly. He will be cheaper and just as productive as Battier, James Jones, or Beasley (it’s kind of hard not to based on their production). By signing Ennis they will at the very least maintian similar production on the bench and have more money to spend elsewhere. It seems like a no brainer.

Ennis didn’t come to Australia to make more money. Ennis came here because the heat sorted a deal out where he could step straight in and get max minutes and be the go to guy. If he was chasing money he would have went to EuropeEurope

As a Sixer fan I can give you the straight dope:

    1.  McDaniels – needs to work on ball handling and creatiung off the dribble.  Small for a 3 at 6-6.  Great athlete, plays bigger, decent spot up shooter.  Will stick.

    2.  Grant – looks terrible.  At under 6-8 needs to be a wing – except can’t do anything off the dribble or shoot.  A bad combo.  Will be in the D league and have to learn to be more than just a leaper.

    3.  Roberts – looks like a player.  Probably 6-8.5 in shoes if he can spot up for 16-18 and keep doing what he is doing he can make it as a backup 4.

    4.  Bader – decent size with a singular skill.  But that skill has kept a lot of guys in the league way beyond their talent (Matt Bonner).  Keep an eye on him.

    5.  Casper Ware – needs to work on setting up his team-mates and be less me first but he’s got skill

I disagree on your analysis of Semaj Christon and Markel Brown. Semaj Christon has a future as a good backup PG because of his length and athleticism. He is a very good defender and last night played with excellent energy and aggressiveness which is crucial to being a good role player. He hit a couple mid range pull-ups off of pick and roll and got to the rim as well.

Markel Brown has fantastic last night but he is a two not a PG. Guitterez is a real steady PG but is more of a third PG and while the Nets need a backup Brown isn’t the answer. At this point he is a two with great vision and terrific athleticism and an improved jumper. He had some great passes but he is not a PG.

I can see your point on Markel Brown and will not debate that point. As for Christon he does play with a lot of energy but he will be lucky to be a third string point guard. He will play in the D-League and get the occassional call up but overall I do not see him being "the backup" for a team.
