whiteflashParticipantCan anyone explain the significance of Doncic wearing #77? Remember hearing that over a certain number you have to get league approval.

ChewyParticipantcan’t go over five. The ref needs to be able to signal the number with his hands. He can show number 15 by holding one finger up on one hand and five fingers up on the other. Obviously you can’t do that for 16 or 17 etc.
But that’s for amateur basketball. The NBA can do pretty much whatever it wants so that’s why numbers like 77 can easily be allowed. No H.S. team could use a jersey number like that.

ChoppyParticipantThat’s a dumb rule. Limiting numbers because of how many fingers a ref has? So 1 finger on one hand and 5 on the other, could be 15 or 6, right? Or is 6 not allowed because a ref doesn’t have 6 fingers on one hand?
Sorry, I don’t want to come across as mocking you, just am baffled at such a dumb rule.

ChewyParticipantwgats the point? Was this such a big problem that common sense couldn’t solve it?
Fun facts: #6-9 are not legal numbers
The numbers on the front must be at least 4 inches high
Numbers can’t have more than 3 colors
Back numbers must be at least 6 inches high

ChoppyParticipantSeems like rules for the sake of rules. No common sense there at all.

khaled_a_dParticipantDoncic favorite number is 7 which he used to wear at Madrid mainly because it was Vassilis Spanoulis number and he was his idol
The number 7 is taken by Dwight Powell, so he used number 77 which is his number in Slovenia national team (because again someone else already taken 7)
Jalen Brunson will take 13 btw

Lotto StudParticipant#31 would have made sense for Ayton, but that number should remain untouchable as well.
