     1, Grizzlies

2, Bucks; so close. I give the edge to Robinson over Mutombo.

    3. Mavs

    4,  Warriors

    5. Nets; very close.

    6. All about tempo, Very hard. If it’s slow- shaq for sure. Fast tempo, it would be hard to keep up with showtime 2.0.  At the end of the day, not enough defense to force the game in the half court, and will depend on things like reffing. Because fouls are limited, and no bench, I’ll go with the hornets (no hack a shaq).

7.) Reed/ Mourning too big for debuchre, and Leonard has to guard Jordan. Because of that, Clippers.

8.) Nuggets, no one to guard to T-mac.

1, Hawks, Barkley owns Wallace in a very even match-up thorugh all positions

2, Bucks, I give the edge to King over English.

    3. Mavs, prime D-Rose owns Curry plus Pippen hides Harden’s defense.

    4. Warriors, not even close

    5. Kings, Prime Hill is about as good as Lebron and Cousins trumps over Green.

    6. Hornets, It’s going to be a grit and grind game that favors the dominant bigman duo of Love and Shaq.

7.) Clippers, Leonard cannot contain both Jordan and Artest and Reed and Mourning would be too much for Dave to handle plus Zo can switch with Reed to contain Hakeem.

8.) Nuggets, Russell will contain Ewing and T-mac would be dominant.

Game 1: Grizzlies over Hawks, seems like a very even matchup until you remember what Kareem was like with the Bucks, where he averaged 35, 16, 4, and 4.

Game 2: Bucks over Pelicans. Fitting that Westbrook would face The Big O, David Robinson would be the difference maker.

Game 3: Thunder over Mavericks. Lots of cross-matches, Pippen probably guards Steph, Rose is hidden on Peja, Amare and Blake guard each other. The Mavs have great individual players who don’t fit together and can’t really space the floor. Even if Pippen locked down Curry one on one, he can’t make up for the pick and roll with Amare.

Game 4: Warriors over Wizards. Wilt can’t do it alone.

Game 5: Nets over Kings. Interesting matchup, the Kings have very little floor spacing, but they do have very good passers. LBJ would be the difference in the end.

Game 6: Hornets over T-Wolves. T-Wolves lack floor spacing and rim defense, Shaq with four shooters is pretty unstoppable.

Game 7: Clippers ove Cavs. The Cavs have to score at the rim due to lack of floor spacing, which is too tall of a task against Mourning and Reed.

Game 8: Nuggets over Lakers. This one looks like a brickfest, I would take peak T-Mac over peak Rick Barry due to greater efficiency, though the argument could be made that Rick would have been more efficient if he had grown up with a 3 point line. The Lakers also have very little perimeter defense.

The Kings have very little floor spacing? They have a top 3 shooter all time in Ray Allen and a center with range out to the three point line in Cousins.

Cousins can shoot 3s, but it’s not a great way to structure an offense, as we see with the Kings now. You can see similar examples when teams played the Cavs and simply put a smaller defender on Kevin Love. A team with one great three point shooter, one average one who is being used suboptimally, and three subpar three point shooters creates spacing issues. The Sixers had more three point shooting last year when Isaiah Canaan (176 threes) and Robert Covington (170 threes) shared the court.

        Rondo (2009-2010): 13.7 ppg, 9.8 apg, 2.3 spg, 9.9 WS, 17/80 on 3s (.213)

        Hill (1996-1997); 21.4 ppg, 9 rpg, 7.3 apg, 14.6 WS, 10/33 on 3s (.303)

        Boogie (2015-2016, more efficient in 2013-4): 26.9 ppg, 11.5 rpg, 5.7 WS, 70/210 on 3s (.333)

        Duncan: (2001-2002): 25.5 ppg, 12.7 rpg, 3.7 apg, 17.8 WS, 1/10 on 3s (.100)

        Rondo (2009-2010): 13.7 ppg, 9.8 apg, 2.3 spg, 9.9 WS, 17/80 on 3s (.213)

        Allen (2000-2001): 22 ppg, 5.2 rpg, 4.6 apg, 13.7 WS, 202/467 on 3s (.433)

        Hill (1996-1997); 21.4 ppg, 9 rpg, 7.3 apg, 14.6 WS, 10/33 on 3s (.303)

        Boogie (2015-2016, more efficient in 2013-4): 26.9 ppg, 11.5 rpg, 5.7 WS, 70/210 on 3s (.333)

        Duncan: (2001-2002): 25.5 ppg, 12.7 rpg, 3.7 apg, 17.8 WS, 1/10 on 3s (.100)

Game 5: Nets over Kings. Interesting matchup, the Kings have very little floor spacing, but they do have very good passers. LBJ would be the difference in the end.

      ——————————————————————

The Kings have very little floor spacing? They have a top 3 shooter all time in Ray Allen and a center with range out to the three point line in Cousins.

    1. Hawks. IMO the Grizz only positional advantage is Kareem over Parish. PG is a wash with Lenny and Nate and the Hawks have the edge at SG, SF, and PF.

    2. Bucks vs Pelicans. Both teams are very similar…I’m going to give the edge to the Bucks because Robinson>Mutombo and Marion has more scheme versatility.

    3. Thunder, their shooting ability is just ridiculous. Bit surprised so many ppl have the Mavs winning to be honest. Pippin can’t make up for the defensive deficiences of all the other 4 players on his team and with Pipp, Rose and Harden all being high usage players this is an offense that is bound to collapse.

    4. Warriors, great combo of offense and defense

    5. Kings. Prime Grant Hill was an absolute steal where he was drafted. DC and TD would be unstoppable next to each other, and prime Rondo was an ideal pass first, defensive PG that played his best in the biggest games. Add that to one of the greatest shooters even in Ray Allen and this is one of the best balanced teams out there.

    6. Hornets VS Wolves, is definitely a tough one. Each team would have completely different styles, Wolves fast paced and up tempo, Hornets slower and and more of a half court game. I’m going ot go with the T-Wolves but I feel like if I picked this tomorrow I might be inclined to go the other direction.

    7. Clippers. It’s unfortunate that two of the best defensive teams in this league have to play each other so early. This is a tough one but MJ is the GOAT and as great as Hakeem is the combo of Mourning/Reed is better than Hakeem/Debuscherre.

    8. Nuggets. Russell and Wilkes with the D, while T-Mac and Schayes provide the offense.

These just got a lot harder… Also, we should do a consolation bracket for the teams that lost in the first round. Seems like a waste if they only get 1 game!

Hawks over Grizzlies: Tough choice. Atlanta wins the perimeter game with the Wilkens/Moncrief/Wilkins combo. Kareem will get his, but Parish can at least hope to contain him. I think the attacking of Atlanta will frustrate Kareem and Rasheed. Barkley and Parish can get rebounds, but they will probably get blocked a lot with the length of Kareem and Rasheed. I think the key match up is Nique against Carmello, and I think Nique wins that one.

Pelicans over Bucks: New Orleans is a solid, balanced lineup. I think the duo of Robertson and Monroe will cause problems as Sharman can’t guard either of them. Bucks don’t have many shooters, and Mutombo will slow down all the guys trying to get to the hoop. Robinson could have a good day muscling down low, but he still has to deal with Aldridge and Mutombo. Aldridge should do good against Marion. Pelicans will pick up the pace which will force Westbrook to make quick (and usually bad) decisions.

Thunder over Mavericks: I think the shooting of OKC will win over the relentless attacking of Dallas. Hayes can limit Mikan and Griffin and Stoudemire are pretty much a wash. So I’ll give advantage to the shooting of Curry, Thompson and Stojakovic over the ball handling and attacking of Rose, Harden and Pippen.

Warriors over Wizards: Battle of the giants!! Yao vs. Wilt. That is awesome. Plus, Wilt also has to deal with the Brow as a help side defender. The all around size and defensive skills of the Warriors gives them the edge. Wilt is the main guy for the Wizards, but for once he does not have a size advantage against Yao. Plus, if Wilt tries to run the floor, he’ll be slowed down by the uber athletic and long Anthony Davis. Dumars and Rice can at least spread the floor, but they will be aggravated by the length of Bryant and George.

Kings over Nets: Tough to go against Lebron, but this Kings team is solid. Prime Hill can match up with Lebron and focus on defense and being a shooter. Duncan and Cousins are too big to be handled by Green who can be guarded by Duncan. Would be a hell of a battle down low with Cousins and Gilmore, but the fact that Cousins can now step out to the 3 point line gives him, and his team, the advantage. Rondo would slow down Hardaway while setting up his teammates on offense.

Wolves over Hornets: I wish Shaq had better guys around him. But these Wolves will run, run, run against the Hornets. They are more athletic at every position. Yes, Shaq will get his points, but I think the running will wear him down. Plus, Shaq will have to deal with Johnson, Carter, Iggy and Kemp going hard to the hoop, so Shaq may rack up the fouls.

Cavaliers over Clippers: Hard to go against MJ already, but this Cavs team is very good defensively. They can thrown Wall, Sprewell, or Leonard at MJ to slow him down. Plus you have Hakeem to block some shots. Mourning will give Hakeem some trouble, but this is Hakeem. Reed should be able to get a lot of rebounds, but those might be limited if the Cavs do their offense through Hakeem.

Nuggets over Lakers: The Russell/Ewing match up would be awesome. However, I think the Lakers are too small and don’t have enough defense to move on. Nobody to contain T-Mac. Yes, the Lakers can score a lot. But Denver will out rebound and out defend them.

So dissappointed that the 76ers didn’t make it…

    1. Grizzlies – Can’t underestimate Jabbar

    2. Pelicans

    3. Mavericks

    4. Warriors – Chamberlain loves to lose big games

    5. Kings – Super one-sided, each of these guys healthy peaks was AMAZING

    6. Hornets – Schmidt goes off in this game

    7. Cavaliers – This is a great defensive team. Good enough to stop Jordan.

    8. Nuggets – All Bill Russell does is win!
