omark422ParticipantIs there anyone else on this who is uspet at the fact that NBA players no longer have good nicknames? LeBron James has “The King”, Yao Ming has “The Great Wall”, Shaq has “Superman”, Allen Iverson has “The Answer” and Tim Duncan has “The Big Fundamental”. Those are all good nicknames. But names like “CP3”, “KB24”, “D-Wade” etc. suck. The worst is “The Black Mamba”. They’re not original at all or just plain lame.
So let’s find good nicknames for the elite players like Kobe, Dwayne, Kevin Durant etc.

omark422ParticipantI like “The Closer” for Kobe. That’s a good one.
“Flash” is a good one.
I’ve always liked Durantula but I was hoping there would be a better one for him. Like “Sub-Zero” cause he’s a cold-blooded shooter with ice in his veins… haha0 - Posted on: Tue, 07/20/2010 - 10:17am #358348

mikeyvthedonParticipantBlack Mamba is a wicked nickname. They are the only snake in the world that actually will chase after humans, that is fricking scary. Even Kobe embraced it, check his gear and his symbol, very much mamba influenced. One of the best nicknames around. Now, “Durantula” is funny, but not a great one. “Spicy Curry”, since inception, is just kind of lame. I would say you can make very creative nicknames for players, but why does everyone need to have one? I find a majority of nicknames people hate and are unoriginal. Plus, once a player changes his team or number, they become pretty nonsensical. The Raptors had two, “Air Canada” in Vince, who left Canada and “CB4” in Bosh, who I guess has switched too 1. Sadly, this means we will not be able to refer to him as the aptly titled early 90’s comedy film starring Chris Rock and Charlie Murphy. Also, have you noticed that Shaq seemed to coin a lot of players permanent nicknames? The Big Fundamental, The Truth and the Big Ticket, all Shaq creations later used constantly by the media. The best ever is probably “Chocolate Thunder”, but their are way more unoriginal ones than great ones. Helps to have one that rhymes, though Wilt hated being called the Stilt. Hakeem the Dream was a nice one. Slick Watts, Magic Johnson, Dr. J were all great monikers. I would say for Durant, Durantula might be one that sticks, though I hear he hates it. For Steph Curry, I would say just call him “Steff-IN” rather than “Steff-ON” or Steve-In” and it would be cool. Spicy Curry just sounds totally ridiculous, it is beneath the player it is given too. D-Wade is Flash, like it or not. My favorite would have been Gregor “Uncle” F-ucka (It was pronounced Fooch-car I guess, but man if he was ever in an NBA jersey those F-ucka’s would sell like crazy).
