Ok, the MVP race is REALLY going into the final laps.

Harden won Week 1 of the Post-ASG MVP stretch run, and now Week 2 is halfway over.

Could have an MVP a week and a half from now…

Also: somebody MIGHT be eliminated soon…

IF Harden wins 3 straight (and is almost halfway there) THEN I am gonna do an MVP Runner Up Power Poll over the remaining time frame.  That would be about a 3 or 4 week time frame, and then just pick the top guy over that time frame.

So, with Harden out then I will give it to the next guy up — probably Anthony Davis, or maybe LeBron gets back in here.

And, IF a player finishes in last place 3 weeks in a row (and Giannis is actually in danger of doing so), then TWO NEW players will get back in this thing (MVP runner up race).

Right now, that is the bigger race — the race for second place — since Harden looks to be running away with this thing (and picking up steam as the year winds down).

So, here we go.  Plus, Harden still has 5 points for being the Pre-ASG MVP and 1 point for winning last week.  KD has a point from showing out in the All Star Game.

    Mid-Week MVP Power Poll

    1. Harden 43.0

    2. tie Durant 42.5

             DeRozan 42.5

    4. Giannis 0.00 (his Bucks have gone 0-2 so far this week)

IF Harden gets this thing done by the end of next week, or even with one week remaining I think I am gonna go with the player with the best season up until that time (or, maybe post-All Star Break, but I like the overall runner-up MVP aka 5th place).

Ok, I might do TWO seperate awards at that point — Defensive MVP aka the guys remaining in my power poll with the combination of best DEFENSIVE STATS (steals and blocks) and WINS.

DPOY: Not sure I like that award… I don’t like giving awards to "specialists" since maybe guys don’t have to guard YOU either.

Maybe DPOY should be a split award: best defensive ROLE PLAYER and best defensive SUPERSTAR.

Role player DPOY probably goes to Roberson even if he is still hurt.  Maybe Gobert.

DEFENSIVE MVP gonna go with a split decision here (if it were MY choice): Kevin Durant AND Anthony Davis.

Eh.  I might do that anyway.  Find the top 4 guys with the highest combo of Steals/Blocks and Wins (with durability aka games played also taken into account).

Then do just one poll for the rest of the year.

If I start on Monday that would give us about 1 month left.

    Whatever…

This won’t even be a DPOY anway — ok, basically a Most Valuable Player (Defense Edition) aka the DMVP.

So, the MVP candidate who plays the best defense.

Or, the MVP candidate who effects the game the MOST on defense.

Since only winners WIN and sometimes it’s better to be LUCKY rather than GOOD — I am just gonna add up all the Steals and Blocks in terms of winning percentage then just give myself a DMVP Final Four.

Hopefully, AD, KD, and Draymond end up in the DMVP Final Four but who knows… who cares? AT LEAST ONE will and that might be all that matters.

This might be the year where the MVP runner-up gets the DPOY award (either KD or AD).

Ok, I might put 5 guys in the DMVP power poll.

    That race will start Monday.
