IndianaBasketballParticipantNBA finalizing flopping procedures
Updated: September 27, 2012, 7:21 PM ETAssociated Press
ELIZABETH, N.J. — The NBA is finalizing new procedures that will penalize players for flopping.
Spokesman Tim Frank says the league’s competition committee met two weeks ago and discussed a plan that would go into place this season. Commissioner David Stern believes too many players are trying to deceive referees into calling fouls by falling down when little or no contact was made, otherwise known as flopping.
Frank said Thursday at the NBA referees training camp that the procedures will likely involve a postgame review of the play by the league office, rather than an official calling an infraction during the game. Players would likely be fined if the league determined they flopped.
The proposed plan mirrors an option Stern discussed after the competition committee met in June.

omphalosParticipantA fine is all well and good, but without in-game penalties its not going to mean much for the elimination of flopping in a Finals series where a ring is on the line. There has to be the possibility of suspension if they are going to stanp it out conpletely in my opinion.
That said, it’s a start and I’m glad they are taking steps to eliminate NBA basketball’s most annoying habit.

Jlv2012suspend floppers 10 games first time, 50 games second time, indefinitely 3rd time. This needs to stop asap, this league is soft enough. Glad to see something is being done. I expect Harden’s, Ginobili’s, and Evan’s wallets to be lighter by the end of the season.
