NBA DRAFT: Whos been the most HYPED Prospect since Lebron James?
Which NBA Player has had the most hype coming into the draft in the last couple of years? and WHY?
here are some names
Greg Oden overall, OJ Mayo in high school.
I agree, all I heard about was how Greg oden was the next bill Russel in high school and college and how he was a once in a lifetime talent. Oj mayo was touted as the next Kobe but people failed to realize that he was much more bigger, older, and physically mature than his competition.
1 player on that list doesnt really belong..... cough Austin Rivers cough
I didn't hear that much hype about Austin Rivers...It seems like after the McDonald's game and Jordan Brand game any hype he did have died down and fell in the rankings.
You must be joking if anything Jabari is way more hyped then Wiggins ... barely anyone knows about him because he's from Canada ... Jabari is on the cover of SI being touted as the best since Lebron
Jabari Parker has been receiving a ton of hype. It's been said that he's the most hyped high school player since Lebron. He'll most definitely be a one and done in college and a top five pick in the 2014 draft.
Barnes had a lot of hype coming out of highschool but not to much coming into the draft.
Oden had to be the most hype, i heard many analyst say that he would lead an organization to multiple Championships.
Andrew Wiggins is also recieving alot of hype i heard him compared to Lebron, Durant, and even MJ.
Oden no doubt,than maybe davis
jabari parker it is. he was just voted best prospect since lebron... ends up wiggins is better :/
@nbanflguy actually Rivers had huge hype in high school. He was legendary in Fl, a household name much like lebron. He was one of those guys who was dueling older players like Brandon Knight and Kenny Boynton in high school at 15-16 and was the top player in his class until midway through his senior season.
Barnes didn't have much hype until the summer before his senior year, probably cause his game isn't that flashy.
Oden has to be the most hyped. It's really sad to see the way his career is playing out. He was supposed to be the next great center, now he's just used for reference in the term "greg oden face". Hopefully he goes to a team with a good training staff that can get him healthy. Phx maybe? look what they did for Grant Hill.
on another note, The blazers training staff has to be the worst. Either that or they're extremely unlucky (Joel Pryzbilla tore his ACL falling in the shower.... I mean, COME ON. Thats the worst luck ever)
Yeah I know he was hyped in high school, but coming into this draft he wasnt super hyped like everyone else on that list. Most of the talk about him was about his Dad and he only got drafted 10th.
I think Rose and Durant have lived up to their hype, they are as good as they get in the NBA, they are ELITE...
Griffin still has a little bit of work to put in but he's right below the ELITE tier Today, and he can get their at one point
Greg Oden never got the chance to live up to his Hype, and I feel he would have fulfilled his potential as Top 5 C in the NBA for a Decade, he got injured and threw his destiny out of wack, we all lost a great Big Man to be honest
It's far too early to judge Anthony Davis although his hype is more recent and is backed up by the Monster college season, National Championship, being picked # 1 overall and winning an Olympic Gold Medal...
John Wall's hype was so ridiculous at one point that it became funny and an Classic Nbadraftnet Meme, But to be honest, Wall has in no way lived up to the Hype yet, and this is a make or break year for him IMO, he's got to lead that Wizards team to a decent record and possibly sniff the playoffs, because if they Bomb again and he's doing the Dougie in the Draft Lottery I'm going to begin the Bust Chants, not a Bust in the Darko stratosphere but an ultimate let down after all that potential and promise...
O.J Mayo is in the middle of the Sebastion Telfair and Tyson Chandler catergories, Telfair was so Hyped and let everyone down by never becoming a Starting PG and backing up the back ups in Portland and Minnesota, sure he's stuck around but he's never been the guy he was Hyped up to be...
Tyson Chandler had a lot of Hype coming out of H.S and it was tempered after becoming a solid role player instead of the Franchise changing KG hybrid he was Hyped up to become...He's only become the best possible role player he can be, he's also won an NBA Championship, a Defensive Player of The Year award and helped his country win a Gold Medal in the span of 3 years...
Tyson's story is a great leason tool and guys like Mayo should learn from it, there is life after Hype...
Oden, with good reason.
OJ Mayo easily
OJ Mayo forgot to list why:
For one you heard about him from the time he was in 8th grade.
2. They had him rated as the best HS player in the world as a Sophomore which meant he was rated higher than Durant and Oden.
3. Coaches were told not to call him, he'll call you which is absurd lol
4. He was compared ALOT to Kobe in HS scouts said in the 11th grade he could start for most NBA teams.
5. He was on the cover of EVERY HS basketball ranking book(Dime,Punks,School Sports, etc)
6. He was the HEADLINE for any and every AAU tourney he was at even with guys like Durant,Oden,Sherron Collins, etc being there.
7.That reebok camp documentary was 70% about OJ Mayo
8. He attracted just the same amount of fans Lebron did to where his HS team had to play in larger venues, he still holds the record for attracting the most fans to a HS basketball game in Cincinnati(16,202)
9.He was tabbed as the next Lebron.
10. There's alot more, I could just google it, but I seriously think Mayo was Hyped 2nd to Lebron.
Im a Big oj mayo fan but even i will say he was hyped up
I'd have to go with Greg Oden over OJ Mayo, simply because the hype with Oden was very real. Like it was just a forgone conclusion that he was going to be the next great big man.
Shaq was calling him out at the Espys ("I'm coming for you Greg Oden!"). I remember he got to do the little performance with Justin Timberlake. He was taking pictures/doing photo shoots, etc with great big men like Bill Russell, Bill Walton, David Robinson, etc before he even played a game. He even said Russell told him "big man" secrets. There was an article about him being the winner that Russell was.
The hype and expectations for Oden were to be the best center in the NBA in just a few seasons or less. There were NBA scouts saying they'd have picked him (a sophomore) over Dwight Howard in 2004. His high school career in Indiana was legendary (right up there with Oscar Robertson and Larry Bird) and he basically won every award there was. He was supposed to be Portland's savior EVEN when they already had two very good young players in Brandon Roy and Lamarcus Aldridge.
The hype and expectations were so real that even after 3 microfacture surgeries and a broken patella, some of us STILL expect him to have a career in the NBA.
Oden: The guy was compared to Bill Russell... yeah thats crazy hype
OJ "The Juice" Mayo: Worshiped him when he was in high school. Totally bought into all of the hype. Promising rookie year, but has fallen off a bit. Still think he can be good, but not nearly as good as he was hyped up to be
john wall and oj mayo
