NBA Draft: Is Trey Burke a lottery pick?

Trey Burke is averaging 17 points and 8 assists per game on the 3rd best team in the country yet most mock drafts have him in the 2nd round. Why is that? Whats the knock on him? Where does he rank among the point guard prospects?

Whats the scouting report on him and who does he play like in the nba? this site doesnt have a scouting report on him yet.

Maybe not a lotto pick, but I

Maybe not a lotto pick, but I have him in the teens after the lotto. The knock on him is that he's small, but he has the length and body strength to make up for some of his size disadvantages. Honestly, I think anyone who has him in the 2nd round either doesn't know what they're looking at or simply doesn't put enough stock in how well a player plays his position currently. You can only hope that some of these more toolsy PGs ever develop the basketball acumen and skill that Trey has right now.

I think he and Phil Pressey play the position the best in college, but Pressey is shorter, with short arms and not as good of a scorer. As a prospect I see him as anywhere b/t 1-3 at his position (I have him currently only behind Marcus Smart because Marcus too is a high intangibles player but with much better physical tools). He doesn't have the physical tools as some of those guys but he is as good as it gets at the college level in terms of skill, competitiveness, smarts and intangibles.

I think a reasonable comparison for him at the next level is a younger Jameer Nelson, with Terrell Brandon upside.

Though I've had the very same

Though I've had the very same thought you have to account for the fact that Jameer is built like a truck and Burke is slender. I see him somewhat like Dj Augustin. And with the PG position in the league at an all time high he's most likely going to have a career as a backup.

I don't know which Burke

I don't know which Burke you've seen, but he is not slender. He's 190lbs. He's got a similar build to CP with his strong lower half, low center of gravity and wide hips. He plays to contact in the paint and doesn't get bumped off his lines on drives.

i said trey burke would end up in the 2nd round and now i am eating my words..he is awesome..i think he has a legitimate chance to get in the late lottery..with guys like harrow slipping heavily, he is 1 of the best PGs in the draft..i think MCW is the best 1 tho

I never thought of him as a lottery pick but the more anyone

watches him the more he will win you over. Jay Williams called him a definite lottery pick last week during the Big Ten ACC challenge.

He's a Jameer Nelson clone to

He's a Jameer Nelson clone to me, Burke may be more slender but they have roughly the same explosiveness, playmaking ability and athleticism. Not to mention their playing styles really seem to resemble one an others.. I wouldn't take him in the lottery but I wouldn't let him slide out of the first round either...

if he was 6'2 or 6'3 and an explosive athlete. still love his game. Burke is a player who has a low ceiling and a high floor; seems like a safe pick. I see him being a solid player in the nba

A more reputable guy makes the Burke/CP3 comparison.
